Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Just watched the latest ep. I think it's kind of like star trek. They're going to be on that train going from point A to B, but encountering new lands, enemies and problems on the way.

did everyone stop watching/talking about this out of embarrassment? lol. It got so bad and meh towards the end. still getting that Mumei figma tho!

I think once Oni-sama showed up the story went downhill somewhat. Not a total trainwreck though (pun not intended). Anyway, I'm pleased to see that Mikimoto's designs got a new bunch of fans.

Forget Munmei. Give me the hot, redhead engineer girl with muscles like an Olympic swimmer any day of the week.

I think the story started out with promise, but the Kabaneri should have been better thought out. Their development relied too much on standard anime stereotypes. I didn't think it was going to go that way at first, though. They had a nice set up introducing Mumei as a strong female lead and Ikoma as physically inferior but with an adept mind for research.

It's just...they didn't take that set up anywhere interesting and then they threw it all away for the final act, even nerfing Mumei completely so that she ends up getting subjugated by Biba. I found that as disappointing as Ikoma's whinging and his later upgrade to super saiyan status.

The final fight was confusing too. I'm still trying to figure out how it ended the way it did for Ikoma.

But it wasn't all bad. Ayame's character was well done and consistent, given what we did see of her and the politics that the show did get into at times. The art and character designs were fantastic too. ^_^

Edit: Putting spoilery comments behind tags...

Watched it all last week. Started very good. I really liked the premise and everything. Then at the half way point the series turned into a standard anime show. It didn't become a bad show it became a paint by numbers show. It was still a good series but it lost what could have made it great.

I thought the show was fine for what it was. I think it felt more like a long movie rather than a TV series. I'm not quite sure what "anime stereotypes" people are referring to. Are there specific shows that invoke the way Kabaneri handled their characters? I don't remember seeing any training montages, or fighting with the power of friendship, or girls running with toast in their mouths, or guys falling on girl's boobs. The show looks similar to AoT, but the show does not go in the same direction as titan. I do wish studio WIT could have got rid of Biba and focused more on the survival aspect of the show. I could have also done without the super powered zombies that shot lasers out of their mouth. Studio WIT also has some of the worst still frames I have ever seen. The speed lines and odd color choices in those still frames crack me up. I would have preferred to pan across some scenery then to do what they did.

Just found this anime by accident, been out of the loop for quite a while, but felt pretty smug that I immediately recognised Mikimoto's character designs

since I missed the whole Attack on Titan craze, I'm pretty sure it'll be entertaining enough
