DX Chogokin YF-29 (Alto) Durandal Valkyrie - Reissue

Starting to wish I had held out a little longer, since I overpaid for my copy, but I really don't regret getting this release.  Weird joint issues aside, this one looks like a huge step up in quality compared with my original.  The dull finish really looks good on it.  Everything fits tightly, the shield doesn't fall off if you look at it sideways, and the ratchets in the wing nacelles are a huge step up from the original mold.

Guess it's time to shore up that YF-29 reissue, at least until I get @Anasazi37's VF-4 decals.

All sets have now been printed. Hope to coat and pack them over the next few days and then ship everything out on Friday. :)

Woohoo! :yahoo:

Although I've further disassembled the 29 so I guess the VF-4 will be on the back burner for a bit.

Hey everyone, I just panel lined my YF-29 and want to top coat it. I have a Mr. Premium rattle can, and I am trying to figure out what position the model should be when topcoating.

My current thoughts are propping it on the given stand in Gerwalk mode and masking the stand so the stand doesnt get sprayed. Any input?

When I did topcoating on my transforming VF-27 model kit, I found the best way was to half-transform it. Just unhook everything and splay them out as much as possible. Then shift things and give the spots that were shadowed a touch-up.

For pre-Delta toys you can disassemble without too much hassle. I find it easiest to take them apart before topcoating them. Transforming toys like this just have so many surfaces to cover.

Been a bit busy as of late, but had some time this weekend to get back to the YF-29 grind.

First order of business: touching up the terrible pilot figure. Hand painting is hardly my strong suit, and the molding of the pilot is pretty bad, but I did what I could to make it actually look like Alto from the anime. :unknw:

Stock pilot from first YF-29 release vs touched up YF-29 reissue pilot (Bandai used a darker shade of white plastic on the reissue)

What a big difference!  I think it came out really nice, great job!

Hey thanks! Though I'm still perplexed why 29 Alto has white boots and gloves when they're properly painted on the figure that comes with the 25.

That is amazing work on the details for such a tiny figure. :good:

Alto used to be a breakdancer!

he’s got his Adidas gloves and LA Gear booties.

Thanks @Saburo! It's just one of those things one must do to shore up Bandai's lack of care. :D

LA Gear! I haven't heard that spoken of since before Macross II was a thing!  The fact that I know what that is makes me feel old... :(

10 years after catching the second Frontier movie in theaters I finally have a YF-29 I'm satisfied with.

As the YF-29 is a prototype machine that only saw action once before pretty boy trashed it, I kept the panel shading to a minimum to retain its brand new look.

Otherwise, just added a few details and gave her a semi-gloss coat.

Very nice!

It’s amazing how, with just light panel lining & shading, so much more great details can be seen..

Just in time for its next on screen exposure in the next Macross Delta movie, now in the color blue! Good job with your detailing, Love this design!

it might be interesting to see what is new and different with a YF-29 design, basically 8 years later.  Will it be the VF-29?  I think it will look good with a nice itashi on the back and the weird "S" symbol of Xaos on it.

Beautiful photos! Unlikely but I wish the Ozma version got a similar update. :(

Same here! Actually I hope the VF-25S gets the same painted update. Probably never going to happen given Bandai is focused on the 31s now.

Thanks all. :)

So the 29 is going to appear in the next Delta movie? Hmmm interesting. I wonder what use they will have when everyone else has the newer 31s. Yeah I guess that explains why Bandai suddenly wanted to refresh a 10 year old toy.

Anyway, was a bit busy this weekend so I didn't get to taking some gerwalk and fighter pics till today. Enjoy! :drinks:

Indeed. One must wonder how much Bandai influenced this. Or is Kawamori san just feeling the 29 hasn't gotten enough attention.?
I mean come on. A new VF-29 in blue. You know you're going to buy it🙃

Based on the Delta movie thread, the 29 is the more powerful machine compared to the 31s.

I'm all in for a new colored 29!!! Never did like the red/white.

Not even the Ozma/Rod version? Might be getting this version if it looks good with the Monocle Eye, otherwise all make a pass.
