How to check if a 'Yamato 1/48 VF-1S' is genuine?

Hey,

I'm looking to buy a "Yamato 1/48 VF-1S", and wanted to know as I'm checking the various online websites that sell this item - (like eBay, Amazon, Yahoo Japan Auction, and the other websites mentioned in this thread (http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=41210) - Is there was a way to determine (say from the packaging) if a listed "Yamato 1/48 VF-1S" is actually genuine?

As an example, here is a listing from ebay of the kind of "Yamato 1/48 VF-1S" that I'm trying to determine if it's genuine:

I've read online that when buying from sellers/places in China and Mexico that there can be cheap knock-offs/bootlegs advertised as real "Yamato 1/48 VF-1S", and I just want to avoid buying a non-genuine figure.

Instead of new threads there's a newbie thread for random toy questions. There are no bootlegs of Yamato toys.

I did read the newbie thread (http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33093) which is precisely why I asked since it mentioned there are already known bootlegs such as the "Joons" (a bootleg of the 1/55).

All I am asking is this - is there a way to check, say for example via the labeling on the box/UPC/serial number on the box or perhaps a marking on the figure, to see if it's genuine? I've seen these figures on ebay/Amazon fluctuate between $300-$900, and I just need to know how to check if what I'm receiving is genuine. Given that the prices are so high it's very reasonable to be asking how to check for genuineness.

Yammies 1/48 should be averaging around the 100 to 300 mark, depending on their condition and model, there's no serial number or engraving, there are no bootlegs of the 1/48. You could try our for sale or wanted and white list if you want to make sure you'll get what you want.

Ebay or amazon are not the best place to get valks. Yahoo auction you must use a proxy buying service unless you know someone in Japan who can buy it from you.

I think what "Jenius" was saying is not that you shouldn't ask the question , but you should ask the question in the newbie thread. He also answered your question too, "There are no bootlegs of Yamato toys (Valkyries)"

So they are all Genuine , no need to worry about that. What do you have to look out for is the scale. In each of those scale there are different version that have improvements from their previous version.

nothing much on the 1/48 scale you can read it up here http://anymoon.com/blog/?p=178

But on the 1/60 scale there's 2 main version

The old version 1 http://anymoon.com/blog/?p=1276

The Version 2 ( with different improvements in some and known defects in others) http://anymoon.com/blog/?p=4599

Read those and look at all the pics along with videos. It should give you most of the answers and will set you on your way on which VALK you should buy or Avoid.

below is the list with SAFE and Avoid just in case you missed the pic.

There are lots of other info on that website too.

Once you decide on what you want and check around the internet on how much they cost, you can then also post it on the "WANTED" section of the forum , if you post it with how much you are planing to pay , it will give you a faster reply. Dont forget to edit your Avatar with your location Country.

you can also check out the "FOR SALE" section of the forum too.

As a general rule, if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
