MWUser Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Hey, I was checking through Amazon.com today, and found this listing for the "Origin of Valkyrie VF-1S Roy Focker Special 1/55 Transforming Macross toy" linked below, and I just wanted to make sure before I purchase I know what I am getting. Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016LWNMA Is the product described in the above Amazon link an exact re-issue of the "1990 Takatoku 1/55 Macross VF-1S" listed in the link below?: eBay Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Takatoku-Japan-1-55-Macross-VF-1S-Armored-Valkyrie-GBP-1S-Boxset-Robotech-/262003605046 Also, Amazon.com lists several different sellers for this product, any seller in particular that one would recommend? treatment Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 No. The 1990 was a Super VF-1S with the weird eye and is a Bandai, not a Takatoku. The Origin Roy VF-1S is a non-Super variant and is more similar similar to original 1984 Takatoku Roy. Also, both are way way overpriced from your links. Quote
wmkjr Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) The one that your looking at doesn't have the super parts. It will look like this: https://www.hlj.com/product/ban952862/Sci Edited November 20, 2015 by wmkjr Quote
plastik Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 info can be found here: http://www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/2008/origin_valkyrie_vf1s_valkyrie_roy_focker_special Quote
QEssential Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 The one in the ebay link is a later version with a different head sculpt and has a white body while the one in amazon has a dark grey body. This would be the original vintage that the Amazon one has replicated: http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/q92500780 Quote
Spiff Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I am not a chunky monkey expert but heres what I think I know. No they are not the same. Biggest difference is the Origin release does not have fast packs. The origin of Valkyrie are the latest release of the 1/55 from Bandai. Unless you are really nostalgic for the 1/55 I would suggest picking up a Yamato 1/48 VF-1S or a Yamato version 2 1/60 VF-1S. Way better sculpt. Quote
treatment Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 iirc, the only Origin Valkyries that were Supers (had FAST-packs) is the Hikaru-1A and the Max-1A. The FAST-packs were deep green, too. I think Veef or somebody else at CDX has a review on one or both of them. Quote

Way better sculpt. Ah, I see, ok. Let me ask this, is there a reputable Amazon link or reputable website where the "Yamato 1/48 VF-1S" or "Yamato version 2 1/60 VF-1S" are being sold? Also, if I am correct in my understanding the "Yamato version 2 1/60 VF-1S" is the re-issue that avoided the concern of cracks showing up in the shoulders - right? Yamato version 2 VF-1s are hard to come by these days with many inflated prices so do be careful. I suggest you do your research first. If you can wait I suggest you wait and hopefully Arcadia will re-issue them in the near future. Otherwise, you can try the "For Sale" section in this forum. Good luck! Quote

No. It was never reissued coz it sucked. The original Hikaru Super-VF1S was reissued in 2002 and it has the standard Takatoku-original 1S head/eye and updated FAST-packs. edit: here's the 2002 reissue of the Super VF-1S: here's the 2002 reissue of Roy VF-1S: Btw, the stickied TOYS FAQ - The New Noobie questions thread should provide you with alot more information (including reviews and stuff): http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33093 edit2: here's MacrossWorld's legacy Takatoku and Bandai pages (full of pics and stuff): http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/takatoku.htm http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/_toys_bandai.htm Edited November 20, 2015 by treatment Quote

I can't answer for reliable re-sellers because I usually get them when there are first released either from HLJ or Nippon Yassan. But in the times I have used them (Amazon or ebay) I've had no problems. Yamatos 1/48s and VF-1 1/60s are currently not in production so they are hard to find (for the right price). Your best bet would be on the forum here or Yahoo Auctions Japan. Quote
