EXO Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 The pilot comes with the Weapons pack upgrade. They overlooked it, I guess. The 1/48s come with the pilots. https://www.hlj.com/product/HSG6/Sci Quote
Galaxy_Stranger Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 Bastards! Thanks. Are the TV versions of pilots available? Quote
Model-Junkie Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Bastards! Thanks. Are the TV versions of pilots available? Only with the new Hasegawa Gerwalk kits Quote
NZEOD Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Yeah I have a few of these now and had to collect up 8 Weapons kits to fit everything out with pilots. You get 2 in each kit but I have a few two seaters so I used these up quick smart! Quote
Duymon Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Model Kits without pilots have always been a pet peeve of mine. When I was a kid I used to make some purchasing decisions based on which kits had pilots lol Quote
Galaxy_Stranger Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 I don't doubt it! Man, I've never even HEARD of an aircraft kit not having a pilot! Oh well... I think I've got a decent alternative, though. I was never a stickler about getting all the cockpit detail perfect anyway, so I think I've thought of a solution to not having a pilot involving Alclad... Does Hobby Blobby carry acrylic sheets? I can't seem to find anything cheap around me. I need some cheap stuff to test with and some thick stuff for cutting and using as a straight-edge. Man, this sucker is TINY compared to a 1/72 scale F-14! Quote
mickyg Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Yeah, VF-1 sizes are close to an F-16 if you want a comparison. Quote
Galaxy_Stranger Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 Is there any particular reason they made the plane smaller? I would have thought they would just use the F-14 proportions. Quote
EXO Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 The issue of scale is just a can of worms when discussing it concerning Macross. Quote
Galaxy_Stranger Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 huehuehueh Has anybody compared the pilots to normal 1/72 scale pilots? Quote
mickyg Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Is there any particular reason they made the plane smaller? I would have thought they would just use the F-14 proportions. I think the reasoning has something to do with the size of the alien threat that was found aboard the SDF-1 (or the nicely named "Alien Space Ship 1" as it was known after it crash landed). Make something to fight the big aliens in their own size. Thus the hight of the battroid mode is established. Transform said battroid and you get the fighter proportions. Of course that whole argument is stupid when you consider the Aliens (Zentradi) have their own mecha that absolutely dwarfs the battroid proportions of the VF-1. Honestly, in my mind, the VF-1 is small because it looks cool. And it's the first gen variable fighter and all the new tech allowed for everything to be made smaller? Really though, because it looks cool. Quote
Galaxy_Stranger Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Yeah, it still looks great - I guess my brain is just trying to make it an F-14. And looking at them side-by-side, the F-14 is kinda starting to look like older, less efficient technology being so large in comparison. Quote
MechTech Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I thought the VF-1 series was small until Mospeda. Compare both to a Legios (Alpha) fighter; it's even smaller yet!- MT Quote
mechaninac Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Bastards! Thanks. Are the TV versions of pilots available? You could always get resin pilots in 1/72, male and female versions, from Studio Starforge I can't vouch for their quality since I've never ordered from them, but it's an option to the Weapons Set if all you want are the pilots; also, they are TV pilots, unlike the Weapons Set, and you get 4 seated and 2 standing figures. They're reviewed here. Edited September 8, 2015 by mechaninac Quote
Galaxy_Stranger Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Wow - yeah, I'm definitely going to pick up a couple of those. What an odd combination of endorsements - Star Wars and Macross?? Quote
NZEOD Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) The Studio Forge ones ... just wait until me and one other on here get ours. The guy making them has been AWOL for quite a few months so there is a chance you cant actually get these pilots for now. On the Airframe size issue... the VF-0 series is bigger. Think of the VF-1 as a refined version of the VF-0 Prototypes and optimized for Blue Water Carrier Operations where space is a premium. Later VF series were for Space borne ops. F-14s were behemoths compared to the F/A-18s which have replaced them. Big isnt always better. THink of the F-14 as a typical American Muscle car. Huge engine, lots of wasted space just because they can. The F/A-18 is more akin to a Nissan Skyline or hypo Mitsi Evo. Smaller, more compact, more functional, little wasted space yet still as powerful as all hell. Edited September 9, 2015 by NZEOD Quote
