Roy Focker Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Super Dimension Foto's Patreon Page Photography is a hobby of mine. Doing Macross themed Cosplay photo shoots seems like a good idea to me. I'm starting things off with a series dedicated to Misa. This project will emulate classic imagery of character in photographs (and possible video). I picked Misa because she’s a strong female character that doesn’t get that much attention. In the future I'd like to include more characters from the series or pop culture. I've already did the first shoot. You should be able to match most of the poses up with the line art. It was simple shoot with a real model. Her name is Lee and has agreed to portay Misa for several shoots. You will see more of her and hopefully others. I ask that you don't say anything disrespectful about her/them or attempt to contact them in private with the intent to harass. I will take steps to remove you from Macross World if you do. This thread will be periodically cleaned up. Why focus on one character? It is simple economics. I like to include more characters but resources are limited. I'm going to stretch my dollar by getting the most mileage out of each character. These shoots will be primarily self-funded. On my own I can afford a modest monthly/bimonthly photo shoot. I know people that will want to see the pictures will also want to see more elaborate photo shoots with more extras like new characters. If you're willing to be a patron in supporting this project we can increase the production value. Here are 2 sample pictures. I will share 1 more every other day for a total of 5 freebies. If you want to see rest of this photo set click on the link above. (Click to see bigger) (Click to see bigger) For those that don't want to sign up for a Patreon account I will accept direct donations for each set. I can also arrange things by private request for very generous patrons. Cosplay photography isn't cheap. If you're willing to donate more to help fund things we can include your requests in a future photoset to be shared with the rest of the patrons. If you don't want to share and willing to pay for everything that can be arranged as well. Special Note: None these photo sets will be pornographic or show extreme violence. This includes private commissions. I photograph clients of all ages and that is not the type of photographer I want them to see me as. Some of the photos will be very SFW and others may border on being NSFW. If is it acceptable to a museum than it is acceptable to me. Quote
Roy Focker Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 Thanks. I'm really proud of this and our model. Quote
Knight26 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Very nice, would love to get an outfit like that for my wife. Quote
Roy Focker Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Here's another preview image. If you haven't check out the Patreon page at least to see the short video promo and the adjusted pledge levels. https://www.patreon.com/SuperDimensionFoto?ty=h Quote
Marzan Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Nice. I'm on Patreon so maybe I'll support this. You got a good model for Misa. Quote
Roy Focker Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 And you can see more of Misa looking good by following the Patreon link. Quote
Vepariga Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Wow, nice photos She makes a great Misa aswell. Quote
Roy Focker Posted August 29, 2015 Author Posted August 29, 2015 Here's the last of the sample images. You can see the rest in the same size or giant size by supporting the Patereon at https://www.patreon.com/SuperDimensionFoto?ty=h Patereon doesn't start collecting pledges till the 1st of each month so you have couple days to get access to this photo set. If you miss this date don't worry your pledge will go towards the next set and in time you'll get this one too. The pledges raised so far will be a big help. It will allow us either more time to shoot or gets added to the budget for adding new characters. Misa is still going to be a regular but there's plans for her friends to join her. Quote
peter Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Looks great, need to get that uniform brought in a bit, make it more form fitting though Quote
Roy Focker Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 She was thinner than I thought or maybe the costume's small wasn't a true small. This was her first time in the uniform we actually used clips to control how the fabric hanged on her arm she salutes. I'd like to get it tailored to fit even better. Besides the extra cost there's always a chance that you can lose a model and have to find a replacement. If a costumed is too tailor no one else will be able to wear it. I think next time she wears it I'll bring more clips. Spoiler the next shoot is taking place next weekend and will feature Misa plus a friend. Quote
Paladinrja Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Big fan of Misa, so this is great! Quote
Roy Focker Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 It is great! I got a lot planned for Misa and her friends with this Patreon. Quote

Super Dimension Foto's Patreon Page With this preview I included some reference pictures. The set was inspired by a scene from Episode 34 "Private Time". Yes my Hikaru does look like a girl. That's because she is one. Cute pretty boys are very rare in real life. If you happen to find one better hope nothing bad happens to them because their impossible to replace. By using a female model for Hikaru I'm pretty much forced to do this with every young male character. Hope you don't mind. As a mostly self-funded project many of the photo shoots are done modestly. The first few of shoots have gone over budget do it the initial cost of buying our starter wardrobe. Future shoots will involve the reuse of costumes, props and locations. Our current contributions (under $60 as of this writing) does relieve some of the burden. It doesn't allow us to do something special. By special I'm talking about renting locations for longer elaborate shoots and more costumes. We won't be able to build a space ship we can save up to recreate some special moments from any of the series. My goal is to reach $250 in regular monthly contributions. That will not be enough to make every shoot special or enough to commission a brand new costume every month. It will allow us to continue making these modest shoots while saving up to create something special. Not reaching this goal doesn't mean there won't be anything special. It will just happen at a much slower pace. What will the future Bring? Misa's a leader. She needs some ladies to boss around besides Hikaru. Maybe just maybe they'll even be visited by a green haired enemy spy. Quote
Zinjo Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I never realized Hikaru was so feminine looking Quote
Roy Focker Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 It is because he's a teenager. All teen age boys look like girls until they can grow a moustache . Quote
Roy Focker Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Update: Next shoot (November release) is taking place Monday the 12th and will feature a new character. More shoots are planned for Misa. As stated on my Patreon page these will be month/bimonthly photo shoots. During the holidays it is harder to schedule these shoots. Bad weather is also a factor. Not to mention even simple shoots are costly if they required a new costume. I have to space them out and reuse certain elements. The holidays, the approaching con and information of a new series coming out means there are too many distractions for new pending patrons. Because of all these things during the Winter months sets maybe released bimonthly instead of monthly. Quote

Super Dimension Foto's Patreon Page Featuring Bridge Operator Kim. Yes I know she doesn't have short hair. Currently short hair isn't that popular with women. Yes I know the costume is less accurate in some areas. I had it commissoned outside of the country. They might be willing to fix it free of charge but shipping back and forth would be sky high. Having Misa's uniform made in this color (DYRL version) made perfect sense. Multiple characters who function as Misa's underlings wear it. Want to Get Fancy? These Photo Shoots even modest looking ones are not cheap. The cost of all 3 shoots so far have been about $660 (or $220 each). Single biggest expense are new costumes. Repeat use of costumes can bring the costs down. The next biggest expense is the models and locations. For those who want more Eye Candy or Just a Cool Settings our modest budget doesn't allow it. I know there are some fan favorites like Milia that people would expect to see a heavy dose of Eye Candy as oppose our normal photo shoots. That's why I added a goal to the Patreon. If we raise $250 in pledges a month we can start doing some special photosets. With more costumes or better locations or more models or more revealing content or just higher concepts. Winter Slow Down These sets are release Monthly/Bimonthly. During the Winter with the weather and holidays makes scheduling harder. Sets during this time of year will be released bimonthly. Meaning Kim will be released in Novermber. With a break in December and new set for Janurary. Pledges collected during the break months will go towards the budgets of future sets. Misa will Return We're just trying to find time during the Holiday months to shoot her next appearance. . Quote
Aurel Tristen Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I haven't been following this very closely, so sorry if this has been asked, but how do you feel about post processing work? IE modified, fabricated or rendered backgrounds, foreground elements, ect. Obviously only good looking results, not a screen-cap painted in using MS Paint. If that was an option, would you be interested? I'd help out (free of charge) if you are able to provide your pictures in RAW, with simple backgrounds that wouldn't take 6 months to separate. Quote
Roy Focker Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 Yeah I'm pretty much limited to already built backgrounds. I have yet to locate an actual space ship with a 1,000 miles of me. I'll send a PM to discuss things. Quote
Roy Focker Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 5 more days to jump on the band wagon for full access to set number 3. Spoilers Shammy and Vanessa are sure to make future appearances as well. They all wear the same uniform after all. Quote
Roy Focker Posted December 3, 2015 Author Posted December 3, 2015 Just a reminder during the Winter months the sets will be released every other month. There are 2 very good reasons for this. Costumed photography isn't cheap. A single month's contribution along with what I add is enough to cover the most basic photo shoot. It isn't enough to cover a new costume every month. The bi-monthly shoots allow us to save for additional costumes and extras. Unless we attract more patrons there is a strong chance this bi-monthly schedule may continue past the Winter. The 2nd reason involves the weather and holidays. For many modeling is a 2nd job they do on their time off. During this time of year most people are spending time off with their families. Even if you are both find a day to shoot you're still at mercy of the weather. The next set will be released January. Incase you're curious here is the estimated cost so far per photo set. 1st Set: $250. 2nd Set: $170. 3rd Set: $240. 4th Set (Next Release): $90. Total Costs= $750 Contributions = $220. Quote

I now have to sort and edit a bunch of pictures. Preview images will be coming in a couple of weeks. Roy Focker Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Now Sharing 5th Set Preview Pictures (March Release) There will be six total of these preview pictures shared over the rest of the month. This set features the return of Girl Hikaru in costume as oppose to civilian duds. It's also the first costume in which I did all of the sewing and I don't even sew. I found a bunch of existing items and added on to them. The costume isn't even complete. I'd like to have a actual costumer finish it and redo somethings. I also have some extra white jumpsuits here that I haven't touched yet. Knight26 Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 So why are you having a woman portray Hikaru? Could you not find a male model to fill the role? Quote

Roy Focker Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Yes the above post explains it. Pretty much the same reason Peter Pan is nearly always play by a woman on stage. Next I'm meeting with a model to discuss a field trip. Quote
