ChaoticYeti
Has anyone here tried these out? Might be kinda neat. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60241544/

spanner
cool idea but yeah you'd be pushing it to fit a Valkyrie inside.. Maybe a VF-1 in gerwalk!
ChaoticYeti
I figured as much, due to the size. Would be nice if they had a 12" version.
Saburo
I have looked at this at Ikea and it is too bad there isn't a taller one. The Bandai Robot Spirits VF-25F, 25G and Queadluun Rare will fit in there nicely.

akteon
on the Ikea page they also show sitting it on it's side, so the light could also be coming from the back ... kinda cool you can use it either way next time I'm there I'm going to pick up one or two and I'm sure I'll find some use for them ... maybe if they become popular they'll make them in a larger size ... ChaoticYeti
I wonder how well they stack? Maybe you can stack instead of put the lid on?

no3Ljm
Has anyone here tried these out? Might be kinda neat. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60241544/ Wow! This is great for Robot Damashii and Figuarts. cool idea but yeah you'd be pushing it to fit a Valkyrie inside.. Maybe a VF-1 in gerwalk! True True True. Or that VF-19 Advance in Gerwalk mode. I figured as much, due to the size. Would be nice if they had a 12" version. My co-worker said Michael's sells something for a 12" version. Have to check it later if it's true. I bet the GN-U Dous or Hi-Metals would fit the bill as well. Perfect for those! I saw picks of different usages for them and its pretty cool Stacked stacked.jpg Backlit shelves backlit.jpg So the 2nd photo were usd without the lid, correct? Since the light portion is used for back lit? But, yeah, this is good. If it could only be mounted to the wall. That would be nice.

If it could only be mounted to the wall. That would be nice. Actually I think the lid is still on in the second photo. For the top two cubes you can see a reflection in front of the cameras. Which is cool if the lid will stay on even when it's on it's side. However, I doubt you have to have the lid on ever, so your idea of wall mounting to make it more like a bookcase should work. I really want to drive up to Ikea and check these out but it's about a 40 min drive so I may not be able to get up there for a couple days. spanner
Just checked out the Australian website and these light boxes are the very same price! Which is odd as anything here is usually much more expensive like the display cabinets for example.. Might be good to have a few mounted one on top of the other in the corner walls of a room. Might be an idea so I could put some anime figures back on display. Hiding the wiring might be an minor issue.

By the way, I was thinking of mounting it on the wall but retaining the lights still on the bottom (as the base) instead by the wall as backlit display. But the trick always is how to hide those cables.
eriku
I was at IKEA today and picked up one of these. The photos are a bit misleading with the light and it's far dimmer than I was expecting. It might be enough light for a simple display box when all the other lights are off or turned low, but for the most part I regret buying it as I don't really have a use for it. It was probably stupid of me in the first place but I was kind of hoping I could use it as a light box to take photos with. It's definitely not going to work for that. spanner
same here! I went with my bro to pickup some shelving and while I was there I checked out these light boxes. They had one on display which was handy! But definitely not going to work for anything I need. Like I mentioned previously maybe a VF-1 in Gerwalk. But no chance of Zero-D in gerwalk.. Even looked too small to display a 1:18 scale car.. And Eriku you are right, the lighting looks much dimmer than in the promo shots. This is a pass. eriku
So, right now I have it on with no other lights on besides my PC monitor. It's still what I would consider to be too dim. The light just doesn't travel very far and whatever you have in the box is obscured by shadow beyond a few inches from the base. My 3 year old daughter is loving it though and having fun putting various things inside and turning the light on and off, so it's not a total waste of money. For anyone else I'd say avoid these entirely - especially at $35. :EDIT; To put this into perspective, the thing is HALF THE PRICE OF A DETOLF shelf. F360
:EDIT; To put this into perspective, the thing is HALF THE PRICE OF A DETOLF shelf. I was planning to get one to use as a night light that I can also put the current Figma, robot damashii, sh figuart , tiny stuff in, since I normally display my figure for a bit and then put them back in the box. But when I was at Ikea, a Detolf is only half more really stopped me from buying it.
eriku
Have you tried it upside down? Have you taken any pictures with a valk in it? I haven't bothered taking any photos since I know they wont look good with the dim light. Turning it upside down has the reverse effect, the top few inches is lit but everything below is obscured by shadow. I was planning to get one to use as a night light that I can also put the current Figma, robot damashii, sh figuart , tiny stuff in, since I normally display my figure for a bit and then put them back in the box. But when I was at Ikea, a Detolf is only half more really stopped me from buying it. It makes a perfect nightlight, which is what mine is currently being used for in my daughter's room. Last night she chose a Totoro, a stuffed duck and a rubber dinosaur to spend the night in her nightlight box.
sh9000
I think I'll buy another detolf instead.
