July, 20th Update:

The assembly manual for the drone fighter is available:

-on issuu : http://issuu.com/xig...er_instructions

or

-dropbox : https://www.dropbox....ctions.pdf?dl=0

Painted version:

The painted version will come partially assembled through steps: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 and 7a only.

So you will have to assemble the wings (step 5), slide the laser and snap the drone upper nose in (steps 6 and 7b)

August, 2nd:

Important info: From now, the 1:60 drone orders are CLOSED because the molds would not support any additional casting unit we need. So anyone who would like a 1:60 drone would be put on a waiting list until we reach a confortable number to make the new molds. That would be 10 or something like that.

Still take orders for 1:72 drones unpainted, but I will ask full payment from now.

Pre-orders as of August, 17th:

Send a PM to Xigfrid or reply to this thread to secure a resin kit of the drone fighter.

Minimum number for pre-orders reached! Project is a GO!! :D

1/60 kits:

3x wmkjr (+1x painting)

2x charger69 (+2x painting)

JUNE 26th, 2015 UPDATE

The kits will be made in the USA by Jasonc (from this forum), so the shipping cost to continental US would stay low.

Price is fixed to both scale to $85 USD.

An immediate payment of $50 USD to secure a kit will be requestd, this will pay for the mold material, the rest: $35 + shipping will be asked when the kit will be ready.

- Drone Fighter in resin of 15 parts to be assembled and painted. You need to specify the desired scale between 1/60 and 1/72.

- We need a minimum of 20 kits in pre-order to launch a production in one scale, if this number is not reached, we will have to adjust the price if possible.

- Most of the kit will be casted in the orange/tomato colored resin so very little painting would be needed

- Jasonc is offering a painting service for an additional $30.

- Mimics: Camera rotation has been removed, the Laser canon can slide as described previously, the hanging lever rotates and can be deployed.

- A basic decalc sheet is planned and would be added to the kit.

- The stand adapter is not included, but you can ask for it or order it directly from Shapeways for $5, or just use what you want to display it!

Few details may be forgot in the description, but the main description is there, and nothing is definitive until Xigfrid ask for pre-payments. So just tell us what you want and in which quantity of each kit!

The 1/48 scale drone kit available NOW in Xigfrid shop on shapeways in WSF.

The kit is composed of 11 parts for the entire drone, plus a Yamato Stand adapter if you want a display solution.

It is also recommended to order the laser canon in Steel instead of WSF, but it works pretty well in WSF.

After seeing so many succesfull 3D printing projects here, I have a project request from 3D Printing Masters here :)

How about a 3D Printed Macross Plus Drone Fighter?

We already have AIM-225 Missiles from Arcadia YF-19 for reference, so it could be a little bit easier to model the drone in 3D!

DF lenght's is about 12m, so it is 20cm in 1/60th scale...

Some reference images from M3!

Look, what I've found, we already have a 3D model!

And after making the drones, make a 1/60 Starwing to go with it so we can strap four of these drones onto it's wings...

starwing.gif

Approximate wing span of the SB-10 Starwing would be 116cm in 1/60th scale! :D

design it in pieces. 3ft 9inches isn't to bad. Also make sure it can also be used as a boomerang.

What does the Japanese text says about the small rear trap?

I believe it's

It seems like a perfect match! thanks :)

I am working slowly on a model, but I believe that Arcadia should do a mold of it together with the X-9 and reap money off these!

I was largely making fun of the "request." Since I don't have the skill to make the X-9 why would I ask anybody else to make it? I could make a suggestion for a project, but that's different. So the joke was being greedy and asking someone to make a 4 ft plastic toy.

This is very cool! I'd definitely be up for at least one in 1/60! Looks awesome! Especially if it can accept current VF missile sets too! :oB))

I have a model of this somewhere on an old hdd, before I started making 3D prints. Might have to track that hdd down.

I've almost finished a simple version of it, I would like to have a look at yours too!

In the mean time I began studying the X-9 and couldn't find a proper top view of the ghost, so I had to make one from the 3/4 top view. From the first comparison peaks, I told myself that this thing is big!

This is the draft printed to 1/60 scale (with the ghost being 14m long /60= 23.33cm)

X-9 lookin' fine! I've always wanted to make one too - but the line art isn't the best. Plus the scale is all out whack - I'd say yours looks great in scale - and I would've got about the same scale - BUT with the ventral view with the HMM bay... it is either much, much bigger than the stats say OR it has it's own type of HMM, much smaller than on the valkyries.

Just curious, did they dramatically shrink the ghosts for Frontier? They're almost identical, save for a few fins and probes and surface details, but they seem much smaller than those dimensions.

Being at the "fixing design" stage with the X-9 for its 3D model, I can tell now that X-9 and Frontiers QF-4000 seem similar but overall are very different: almost like a VF-0 seems to be a larger VF-1, but the proportions and details are slightly changed
