areaseven Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Mr. Holmes is the latest film adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, based on the 2005 novel A Slight Trick of the Mind by Mitch Cullin. The film is directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1-2, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh). Rather than being a continuing adventure of the famed English detective in the late 19th century, the film takes place in 1947, with Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto in the X-Men series, Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings series) playing 95-year-old Holmes. This is gonna be one depressing film. Mr. Holmes premieres in the UK on June 19 and in the U.S. on July 17. Mr. Holmes @ IMDb Quote
raptormesh Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I clicked on the title with much gusto but the trailer and director is such a let down. Doesn't say anything beyond "Ian is Holmes and he's old. Sherlock too." Quote
areaseven Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 83% - "Mr. Holmes focuses on the man behind the mysteries, and while it may lack Baker Street thrills, it more than compensates with tenderly wrought, well-acted drama."Metacritic Score: 66 out of 100 Quote
M'Kyuun Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 The premise of an aged Holmes, perhaps coming out of retirement, once again on the case, is interesting to me. Casting Ian McKellan as the venerable Sherlock has me sold on it. Quote
