Thank you!! I'm looking forward to the VF-0D now and any other Mac Zero releases. While the VF-1's are an easy pass for me since I have the 1/60's & 1/48's, the HMR Line is fantastic for have having Valk's like the 0S, VF-4's and my favorite the VF-2SS. Mac Plus & Mac 7 VF-11's, VF-22's and Frontier are all welcomed too. Quote

Chronocidal Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 (edited) Finally got around to something I'd been meaning to do for a very long time. I've probably had those nubs of tan sprue hollowed out since shortly after the VF-1D released. Was really irritated they didn't give us hardpointed wings for it, but it wasn't hard to rectify, and I finally have the packs to use on it. Also took a little time, and painted up a set of TV missiles that came with the Messer crossover version. A standard red Gundam marker with a flat coat turned out to be a pretty good match to the paint they use. Edited June 10, 2023 by Chronocidal Quote

I have spare VF-1Ds so I'll put some hardpoints on a set of wings like how I did for my VF-4G Roy. 19 hours ago, Froy said: Grey google for the win! I know it's never been canon, but shouldn't the missiles on a trainer valk have orange tips (or entirely orange) to signify that they're dummy rounds? I guess he did have actual live rounds since he was blasting regults in the first ep, but I don't recall him using missiles. Quote

I guess he did have actual live rounds since he was blasting regults in the first ep, but I don't recall him using missiles. I did go back to watch the first episode once to confirm it, and no, they never did load Hikaru's 1D up with missiles before they sent him into combat. Probably an oversight in terms of capability, but Bandai seems to go to great lengths to adhere to what's seen on screen so long as it will let them cut production costs. Technically speaking though, they probably didn't include missiles because they would have had to mold them in another color. The light tan missiles in the Brownie VF-1A were passable, but the tan and orange parts on the 1D probably wouldn't have looked as good. Training rounds would generally be marked blue in terms of real world weapons though, so I doubt that would change to match the plane (and I doubt Bandai would take the time to learn that in the first place). Otherwise, just because an aircraft can be used as a trainer, doesn't make it a dedicated trainer, like the VT-1. Lots of planes with a back seat can be configured for training, like the F-18, but they're also fully combat capable. The closest analogue to the relationship between the VF-1D and VT-1 I know of is when you compare the F-5F with the T-38. Quote

Chronocidal Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 Side note, I know Luna Park has been sketchy for a while with orders, but I took a gamble and put in an order last week for a second armored VF-1J, and just arrived today via FedEx. Box was a little scrunched, but in okay shape overall. Think it came to about $150 shipped in the end, which I was okay with to get a second one after the fact, considering I think that's about what my HLJ one cost after shipping. Quote

Chronocidal Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 I never even really considered it before, but I wonder how difficult it would be to get a set of super parts printed, and paint up a set in orange. I'd rather not mess with the stock parts that much. Quote

Chronocidal Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 Yep, the recent white VF-1S with super packs is a good match to the revival armored VF-1J, with a matching canopy tint. The earlier ones were a very light gray, while the DYRL releases were a darker gray. Quote
Pontus Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 (edited) Regarding the standalone HMR Hikaru VF-1J (the first one), is the blue canopy tint removable in some way or is it just made of clear blue plastic? Edited June 13, 2023 by Pontus Quote

It's not a tint, it's a pigment; the dammed thing was molded in clear blue plastic. Quote
Chronocidal Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) All the more reason to use those with the armor. Or just swap the canopies around, in any case. As long as you have a few in battroid, you'll probably have a few free clear ones to use. Edited June 14, 2023 by Chronocidal Quote

I've actually noticed in the past that my right and left eye actually see slightly different shades of gold/brown/yellow. I think it's not a pure blue, there is definitely a tinge of green in it. It's probably harder to see on the valk itself, since it has a slightly blue-gray color. Quote
Lolicon Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 The lighting can definitely affect how blue or green it appears. Quote

sh9000 Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 It looks like it can be lowered more. Make sure when viewing the profile of Battroid that the backpack hinges are perpendicular so that it is lowered all the way. Quote
