HMRs for play, 1/60s for display. This is happy compromise for getting duplicates across scales. :D

Happy, cost effective and space saving compromise. ;)

I don't know about cost effective, I end up just buying more figures.

For wanting duplicates and not needing to get multiples of the 1/60 scale version as @MKT was alluding to. But, yes, "cost effective" might not be the appropriate term for a hobby where we're all willfully wasting our money

I'll keep it in Gerwalk mode for now until I get tired of it in this mode. Gonna keep this permanently in Battroid eventually. Transformation was pretty easy compared to the HMR VF-0s. Not fiddly at all...so far.

No "probably " as long as shipping arrives in time ;)

Yeah mine arrived already but I misplaced it in my house and I just need to find it.

It's in the fridge. Don't you remember? It was the only place left you could fit a valk in.

This is not a lost Lego brick. If the house is that full of valks, I fear more things are missing.

Where's the cat?

Found the Fire Valkyrie.  It was next to some other unopened figures.  Now it's with a few other HMR that still need to be opened.

Where are you guys finding these mass produced VF-1A figures from? I'm still trying to get just one!

Set up an alert @ Mandarake, check AmiAmi secondhand, yahoo auctions, most secondhand places... then buy away. They're cheap.

Shelf warmer like many HMR toys.

I've bought 4 so far.

Trying to do my bit, to make sure we get more Macross 7 HMR toys. 😅

As a late collector, I missed the supposed good ole’ Yamato days when valks would frequently go on this kind of discount.

Seeing this makes me want to make up for it lol.

That's a crazy good price.

They wouldn't be shelf warmers at my local Walmart, I can tell you that. >_>

The hmr toys I’ve seen at the local hobby town seem to sell well. I get the feeling that it’s a different market overseas. I’m curious about how well they’d have sold if the og Macross stuff was available in U.S. stores.

Well, Gundam kits have been available at larger Targets, but I haven't seen any lately. Meanwhile, they sell like gangbusters at places like Miniso.

The other series would probably sell much better, Macross 7 just has had next to no exposure or audience in the west until very recently, and even then, it's really a crapshoot whether the people who even know about it actually enjoy it.

I'm actually curious how much being a direct shrunken copy of the Yamato mold has impacted sales.  It's nice having a smaller cheaper alternative, but I feel like this one might not have much demand until they release the rest of Sound Force to go with it.

Hard to say. I can see Zero, Plus, and maybe Frontier doing well here in the U.S. but I don't know if the general audience would of appreciated 7 or Delta since it focuses so much on idols and singing.

When I was seeing them I’m at hobby town, it was when the zero stuff came out, and those didn’t stick around. I don’t know about the fire Valkyrie yet though.

So why do you think Hi-Metal R toys are shelf warmers? Is it the price, the size, over produced?

Most Macross toys are shelf-warmers, not just the HMRs. All of the WWM releases in particular don't exactly fly off the shelves and have been readily available and often discounted.  The base of people buying Macross valks and other figures like those on these forums is very, very small compared to other toy lines.

Interesting, I thought Toys 'R' Us was pretty much dead and only carried big brand toy lines like LEGO since they have that "shelf space rental" system.  The only Toys 'R' Us located near me are in Macy's and take up a small space in the department store.

Toys R Us is still active here in Canada and in other countries.   This is from an Asian/Japan TRU cuz of the Macross/Takara Tomy :)

Out here in SoCal, there used to be one in every town or city. I kept hearing about a comeback, but I haven’t seen any of them anywhere. Most just sit as abandoned buildings. Some were converted into other things, but nothing as noticeable as a Toys’R Us. Nowadays the go to toy spot for cheap stuff is Target or maybe Walmart. And for the cool stuff oddly the Hobby Town stores seem to have a lot of figma, Sh Figuarts, Hmr and even Mafex.

Although everyone here in SoCal knows the craziest place for cool toys is Frank’n Son’s. It’s both famous and infamous depending on which seller you deal with.

Transformed to Fighter mode.  My wife put up the tree early so the Fire Valkyrie is ready to test out.  That sale at Nin-Nin-Game is good.  I'm tempted to get another one to just leave in Battroid mode.

I'm hoping for as many VF-19 variant releases.  Come on Bandai.  Oh, and long live HMR.

Yep. It's not helped that most WWM toys are just reissues, and many of us who are into Macross and are willing to drop large stacks of money on them bought them years ago. Or that Bandai charges a significant markup for WWM releases vs just buying from Japan.
