Over the last year or so I hear mentions of good discounts on Black Friday. How does it work if the retailers are on the other side of the world? Is it Black Friday their time or ours? Which stores usually have sales, and what is the typical discount or deals that one can expect?

This ain't really Macross-related, but hey!

Only a few overseas retailers offer Black Friday sales targeted for US-based consumers.

You'll just have to personally hunt down which ones offer them, when they offer them, and how much discounts you get.

Like stores here in the US, the discounts and discounted products vary widely from overseas stores that somehow offer them.

HLJ usually announces a BF sale on certain items that hasn't moved at all from their inventory since item's release-date.

Other stores like Ami, not really. Don't think I've seen any significant BF sales other than HLJ's. It's just a regular day for those other stores.

Since there hasn't been any significant Macross toys that hasn't moved since Yamato went out of business, hlj will prolly offer the Arcadia Tux Valk and their usual glut of old 1/72 or 1/100 bandai kits during BF, as well as those old Yamato GNU stuff.

Maybe you'll get lucky and spot a DX Chogokin Frontier valk on their BF offering. Who knows...

afaik, only HLJ offers BF discount

unless all stars and planet has aligned to grant you this moment, the chance of getting a 5 to 10% discount that what HLJ offers for their DX Chogokin Frontier valk is pretty slim IF this happen at all.

It's just for overstock items. Tuxedo valk and RS Klan will be on the list.

Not sure of anything else.

It also changes yearly, heavy discounts in 2012, on a bunch of select items.

2013, everything was 20%, even pre-orders.

IF HLJ clearances the Arcadia VF-19Kai to something around 20000-26000 yen, I'll be happy enough. I've been considering owning it, but for the current price It just isn't worth buying it over the old Yamato releases.

It's only 6 Am over there.

Not sure why that would be in this thread since that item's always been available shelfwarming at hkcollectibles at significantly lower pricing (2-3 years running now?) than what hlj is currently charging...

Because last sale then had when it was in stock, it was 76$ cheaper than HKC.

good eyes.. but then all their "In stock" has a black background now. will it be too optimistic to think maybe everything instock will be on sale?

oh, yeah?

1/60 vf-19S

hkc == 14979y (everyday pricing)

vs

hlj's bf-sale right now == 17820y (that's with the 10% BF discount)

:bump:

Yeah *last time*.

I spent a lot last year, and looks like nothing this year.

25995 yen for the VF-19 Kai

Nice. I think that's a fair deal. I would have picked it up at that price if I didn't have the Yamato version already.

HLJ is quoting 21420 yen for the GX-67 Arcadia. This year, it's all about Harlock's ship.

Terrible sale this year. The exclusion of preorder merchandise kills it. Since I tend to almost exclusively preorder stuff this is pointless for me. It WILL make me however cancel anything scheduled for Oct/Nov next year and just gamble on it being in stock on bf rather than keeping the preorder on the chance it sells out before then. Last year I got RAH Evas, the YF-19, and others preordered with a nice discount. This year I am buying a couple extra revoltechs. Total bummer of a sale.

Given that the point of a sale is to clear out merchandise that isn't moving, the drama in this thread seems a bit excessive...

Of course, I'm a bit biased, since I think Black Friday is a hideous piece of exploitation and irresponsibility on the part of both stores and consumers in the States, and I'm very sad to see it gaining traction north of 49. So I rather approve of a store posting a sensible sale.

Most sales are gimmicks. And Black Friday is the biggest gimmick of all. My advice: ignore the drama.

I think HLJ's limitations are sensible. Pre-orders already have an on-line discount which is a benefit of ordering early. My guess is that certain items cost HLJ some money during last year's Black Friday sale. I'm not surprised pre-orders were struck from what is acceptable this year. Anyway, take it or leave it. There are other deals to find if you're not limiting yourself to Macross stuff.
