Einherjar Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 How often do I make comments in regards to the Anime? You're also ignoring the fact I like Kawamori's designs and all of the mythology, which is constantly being added to and updated, with each new installment. Just an observation, but that's technically something most Robotech fans would say these days.
Jasonc Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 6,000 posts and he still hasn't realized he doesn't like Macross. QFT How often do I make comments in regards to the Anime? You're also ignoring the fact I like Kawamori's designs and all of the mythology, which is constantly being added to and updated, with each new installment. May be true, but it seems odd that if you don't like the anime, and don't seem to like hardly any of it in general, why spend so much time talking about how much you don't like it? I mean, there's certain subjects I don't care for here, but I don't post in them, advertising that I don't like it, or care for the subject. If you're into the Kawamori designs, that's fine. There's better choices of forums to hop into to discuss that, such as the toy section, where the designs are disected down to the width of panel lines. For the "mythology", there are other places for that as well, or if you haven't already, you can start a topic on that. I'd actually be a bit interested in that. Why you'd want to talk about the mythology that is tied to a story you don't care for though, it seems a little confusing I guess. Tochiro Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Just finished recording a Delta/Tamashii Nations podcast. Should go live in a few days.
VF5SS Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 "Fantasy elements?" You mean, giants descending from the sky on long green vegetable things? It's more likely in Macross than you think.
RedWolf Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 This is an odd aesthetic choice, but I'm witholding judgement, I guess we're going to get more information on how N.U.N.S. operates, allowing something like a monarchy to arise with these Kingdom of the Wind people should drive some interesting story-writing and dialogue to be sure. I didn't really take the New UN Spacy for the allowing totalitarian government/monarchy side of things. Not after the Galaxy incident with an oligarchy. Macross Galaxy didn't have the traditional UN Spacy escort that became NUNS but it was a private army. The Macross Galaxy Corporate Army. Given this Kingdom of Wind is not using a VF designated craft but SV chances are they are not part of the NUN. The hair spears they could indicate another Protoculture seeded race. One that did not join the UN/NUN unlike the Zolans.
Mr March Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 It would be awesome if the CF is a completely new designed Valkyrie or adapting a design we already seen. For example a VF-5000 would make a great CF machine but I don't think this will happen. So the best positive outcome of this situation would be a heavily modified Valkyrie based on the VF-24 so that I have more incentive to buy a toy of this one. Just a new head turret might not cut it (since I passed on the Bandai YF-25) Speaking of the YF-24 and since the show is called Delta maybe they adapt the delta wing design of the YF-24 for the CF Valkyrie since the VF-31 doesn't have delta wings the show title seems misleading. I know some might object, but I do kinda like the idea of CG-modelling the old drawn valkyries like what was done with the VF-17 Nightmare to make the VF-171 Nightmare Plus. There are quite a few really great valkyries like the VF-3000 Crusader, the VF-5000 Star Mirage, or the VF-14 Vampire that could be made into modern CG craft, all distinctly different from any of the hero mecha in Macross Delta. I would also say that a modernized CG model of the VF-11 Thunderbolt might be a really great CF design, but it might look too much like the delta-winged craft in the new series.
HannouHeiki Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) The VF-171 is changed so much from the VF-17 that I think of it as a totally new fighter. If you look at them side by side in scale, wouldn't you say there is quite a contrast? IMO, it's like comparing the VF-11 to the VF-1. Edited November 4, 2015 by HannouHeiki
Nekko Basara Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 The VF-171 is changed so much from the VF-17 that I think of it as a totally new fighter. If you look at them side by side in scale, wouldn't you say there is quite a contrast? IMO, it's like comparing the VF-11 to the VF-1. Really? I haven't handled them in toy form, but the relationship between the -17 and the -171 seems a lot stronger than that. More like a "F-102 versus F-106" scenario, where many of the actual assemblies have changed, but the overall shape and arrangement of parts remains the same. Or maybe an F-18C versus F-18E?
treatment Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 The primary difference I can see is that the old VF-17 was just fat while the VF-171 was just a bit more trimmer. In both Fighter and Battroid modes.
Mr March Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) I'd definitely say I think there is sufficient visual contrast between the VF-17 Nightmare and the VF-171 Nightmare Plus that I enjoy them as separate fighters despite the common lineage, but I don't agree that the contrast is as different or more so than the gap between the VF-1 Valkyire and the VF-11 Thunderbolt. Both Nightmare valkyries have essentially the same transformation system and similar "component" proportions/positions for most of the fighter mode and battroid mode. In contrast, the VF-11 Thunderbolt is an entirely different transformation system from the VF-1 Valkyrie and has much different component proportions/positions. I would never mistake the VF-11 Thunderbolt Battroid for a VF-1 Valkyrie battroid, however I do acknowledge that perhaps my girlfriend couldn't The original VF-17 Nightmare is based off the F-117 and as such is a very distinct, snub-nosed style of fighter. The VF-17's silhouette almost doesn't look like it has a separate nose at all but is more one uni-body. The VF-171 Plus looks like a much more "derived" design that I've always felt looks like one of the MOST science-fiction-like of nearly all the Kawamori valkyries. At least as a FIGHTER, in my opinion the VF-171 Plus is not all that far removed from something one might expect to see in such sci-fi fare as Battlestar Galactica (reimagined), Firefly/Serenity, or Guardians of the Galaxy. The VF-171 Plus certainly does not embrace the snub-nosed aesthetic of the real world F-117 or the VF-17 upon which it's based. Given the nearly identical lengths of both fighter modes, this was perhaps a design consideration once the artists tried to convert the VF-17 into a 3D model, but it could just be stylistic too. Going back to it, I think it's possible we will not be seing another delta-wing fighter in Macross Delta for the role of the main NUNS valkyrie. It just doesn't make sense given that the two protagonist/antagonist valkyries we have seen so far are delta wing vehicles. I think either the main NUNS figther will be something different than what has been seen to date, we won't see a main line NUNS VF at all or if we do see the VF-171 Nightmare Plus, it will be introduced so late in the story that no one will be worried about confusion because we'll all be long since familiar with the delta valks. Aleksandros Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I guess the presumption would be that, since Delta is set at the furthest reach of colonized space (literally on the 'Frontier', wink wink) that things would be a little less unified and a little more chaotic. Hey, yeah a Frontier fleet cameo would be really cool to see. Wonder what S.M.S. has been up to with those 8 years!
Raptor One Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Hey, yeah a Frontier fleet cameo would be really cool to see. Wonder what S.M.S. has been up to with those 8 years! They have been filming Sayonara no Tsubasa II: The Search for Alto
VF-15 Banshee Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 They have been filming Sayonara no Tsubasa II: The Search for Alto *snort* In which the Macross Quarter will be sacrificed without firing so much as a shot because there wasn't enough budget for that.
sharky Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 who's better looking? her? or her Did they take that photo out of her school yearbook or something? LOL!
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 LOL. I have a conflict of interest. First it was Misa, then Klan, now who knows. It's a love triangle! maybe we'll see a cameo monica grown up to get the surfing captain Did they take that photo out of her school yearbook or something? LOL! i'm still curious how she sounds (music vocals) couldn't really hear it during the press conference
sharky Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 maybe we'll see a cameo monica grown up to get the surfing captain i'm still curious how she sounds (music vocals) couldn't really hear it during the press conference I'm sure she sounds good. This is Macross we're talking about it here. It's important.

Guest davidwhangchoi Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I think you could hear her singing Ai Oboete Imasu ka in the background? i did, just barely... couldn't really make out her voice. too busy trying to see the next valk.
Gubaba Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Is this a Series or a movie? TV series. They announced it a year and a half ago.
Ganbare Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 My e-mail flooded by notification, and I assume there's something new. Apparently not Back to the studio.
VF5SS Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Thomas Romain did some of the layouts and backdrops. https://twitter.com/Thomasintokyo/status/662073417470836736

Zinjo Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Frontier opened up the concept of private, independent corporations becoming major players in equipment production in the Macross universe. LAI, SMS and now in Delta whoever is producing the SV series of valks. This will add some interesting dramatic wrinkles moving forward.
JetJockey Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 The teaser didn't excite me that much. Maybe it was the music. Or I just wanted to see a different character art style. But I'll wait for the next preview and see for sure.
Gubaba Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Again, the nice thing about Macross (as opposed to, say, Gundam or Star Wars) is that, however much you complain, a rising tide really does lift all boats. New SDF-1s, a huge VF-1... This is all because of Delta. Maybe you hated the trailer, maybe you won't buy the DVDs or BDs. Maybe you won't buy toys or kits of the VF-31. But with every new Macross series that ISN'T for you, there are products made that you'll love.

sharky Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Is Yoko Kanno going to write the songs for Delta?
Gubaba Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Is Yoko Kanno going to write the songs for Delta? We don't know yet, but probably not.
sharky Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 We don't know yet, but probably not. Sigh, my enthusiasm just went down a notch. I have to admit that my interest in Frontier would have been way lower if not for the quality of her music in the series and movies. I'm staying optomistic that they'll do right by the music in Delta.
Tochiro Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Yeah, I'd agree with Gubaba to not expect Kanno back for yet another go at the franchise. Having said that, given the huge potential music sales and expectations - why would they not 'do right' by the music in delta? Let's wait and see. Less than two months until all is better revealed.
Sandman Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 (edited) It might be good to get a break from Yoko Kanno and try something different. But I said the same thing when we heard she wasn't doing zero and look how that turned out. It's the only Macross series that I haven't liked the song track for. Edited November 5, 2015 by Sandman
