happy_spike Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Hey ChaoticYeti, do you happen to have any update on whether or no you will be able to do the clear stand feet? It will be a while till I can afford them but I really hope that you will be able to find a manufacturer(/you) that can cut precisely enough. If not how would the acrylic handle the heat from a clear polyester resin? because that might be a solution for me as long as it can take a good amount of heat. Never tried it with acrylic before though.Edit: a couple of people seem to have some pics with the clear feet in (like above) and they seem to be holding fine, do some clear feet sit right do they? I personally put each of the acrylic base pivots through a table router. All of the acrylic base pivots I sent out should fit. Some have needed to be bonded to the base as they fit with too much slack. I am not sure what you mean by "heat from a clear polyester resin". Quote
wmkjr Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) VF-1A flying escort duty for a VT-1 after a training mission. I was pleasantly surprised by just how awesome these stands make the CF look. Awesome pics! Maybe Happy spike means heat like the chemical reaction from the poly resin mix where they use a catalyst agent. Like surfboard resin? Edited September 29, 2014 by wmkjr Quote
happy_spike Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Yeah wmkjr, similar. The resin I have is for jewelery and it gives a good smooth clear finish, should invisibly fill the gaps if there is a little slack. It does however get plastic meltingly hot haha. So it depends on how much the acrylic can take. I was hoping you'd maybe tried it before but that's fine, I can can get some to experiment on before using it on a stand. I read back over some of the pages I missed and people seem to be getting perfect results from plastic welding solvents. Maybe that's the best plan if they fit sung enough. wmkjr Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the clarification. Never tried it yet. Keep us informed if you do decide to experiment. The stands I got hold up pretty good even though it's loose. All the pics I have is with the stands not fused to the base. If I wedge a piece of paper in between it's snug. Either way it holds the poses pretty good. Was gonna try E6000 but didn't wanna risk it. I do know it has tetrachloroethylene in it. Was gonna try Scigrip but Amazon doesn't ship that or the other alternatives here. Edited September 29, 2014 by wmkjr Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I used Beacon 527, so far so good. It's similar (but not nearly as fume-y) to E6000. A little spot that managed to spend more than 10 secs oozed out before wiping off the excess did slightly etch the base---but I see that as a good thing, as it means it acted as a solvent and not just "sticky". Bonus is you can find it cheap at any local hobby/craft/fabric store. (At least around here) Note that I let mine dry for 2.5 days, just to be safe. Quote
Mommar Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I love all of the dynamic arrangements people are able to make with these. Really, a brilliant product Yeti. Hopefully I can get in on the next round of orders, whenever that happens. Quote
sreichma Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Glad to see you got your YetiStands setup David. A shot in Battroid mode. Roy's VF-1S will always be the standard. Everytime you see it, it catches your eyes. It is Timeless. Edited September 29, 2014 by sreichma Quote
rnurmin Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks everyone for sharing all the pics. For some of us who missed the purchase and had to drool over this, is there a way to buy the stand? If someone wants to sell their stand (hoping), let me know Awesome work from beginning to the end (plus QC),CY Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 I am working on it. I want to sell more. Quote
derex3592 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 How much were/will they be? I might be VERY interested! Quote

David Hingtgen Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Trying out some battroid poses----Nora sniping from below, Isamu dashing to the rescue. And yes, Nora is very stable like that. Even if you tip it over intentionally like 20 degrees, it'll right itself: Quote
Mommar Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 When I am happy with it. What does that mean? You're further refining them? Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) What does that mean? You're further refining them? If you haven't been keeping up with the thread there was an issue with the acrylic vendor I was using. I spent a lot of unexpected time and work on rectifying it and making sure people received the product they were expecting. I want to avoid that on the next run. ChaoticYeti Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Just received this revision I ordered as a test. I am able to firmly seat the base pivot. My hope is that the revised slotted shape will allow for differing thicknesses of acrylic. I am going to order more bases and see if these results hold up. Edited October 1, 2014 by ChaoticYeti Quote
CoreyD Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I love seeing the design process as it rolls along. Thanks! I'm stoked to order more whenever you're ready! Quote
EXO Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Woah... simple, elegant solution... great idea! Hope it works, good luck! Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Thanks, guys. Just tried a base pivot from an earlier batch. Fitment is comparable to the base pivot that came with this order. Quote
wmkjr Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Is it maybe feasible to have the base adapter install from under the base up instead of from the top?Maybe it can be wedge shaped to accomodate the different variances? You would lose the lip on the adapter though and see a slight gap at the base plus have the chance of having excess stick out from the bottom.and the arm thickness would be less unless you kept it all the same width. Sorry, just trying something different. Edited October 1, 2014 by wmkjr Quote
David Hingtgen Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 You've got a Y-shaped adapter? Or arms mounted both in front of and behind the base? Either way, this is pretty much what I've been trying to achieve (but need a 3rd arm for enough height in most cases). So many more optional parts that could be made that I'd buy to "expand" the basic system---extra-long arms for more height, "Y" adapters, etc. Quote
wmkjr Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 YES! Was thinking this thing would be good in black. Would work well when taking pics with black background. Is it black acrylic or printed? Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 YES! Was thinking this thing would be good in black. Would work well when taking pics with black background. Is it black acrylic or printed? The image I posted is just a drawing. At this point it would still be clear laser cut acrylic. Quote
wmkjr Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Thanks for the clarification. It's awesome to know that it can be expanded. Quote
MacrossJunkie Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 A Count the bases: That's a great idea. Perfect for the smaller display spaces like within a Detolf where fitting multiple bases can end up being difficult. Quote

Silverstreak Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) OH. MY. GOD!! I NEED that Unicron adapter.... Is what I would say if I didn't fashion a pretty good one out of timber a few years ago. There has been a distinct lack of high quality Unicron stands. You'll sell a few of those to TF fans. I will however be down for those 2 way adapters Edited October 3, 2014 by Silverstreak Quote
CoreyD Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 That double base adapter is a must have. Great idea Yeti! Quote
