bravo5 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 This started out as a broken VF-25A Renewal (the top fins broke in a fall).I tired making new ones, but the end tab where the original fins went was too badly cracked, so I wound up having to glue them into place. The Valk still transforms beatifully, but the fins no longer fold. I thought, what the hey. It is based on the idea the YF-24 went into production as the VF-24, but only made it as an "A" model and utilized by the original UN Spacy fleet. I used styrene to fabricate the new wings and used the shapeways hardpoints for the missile attachments. I switched the gunpod out for a YF-19 Version 1 pod, which holds into place very well by sliding it in between the arms in fighter (still working on making it fit the Bandai attachments). The color matching was a nightmare, but I think it works, a little more green than I would like. So, without further ado, here she is Quote
CoreyD Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Holy cow that looks incredible. You should commission custom wing sets! Quote
Hikaru1234567890 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 That is really amazing! Are you going to customize it more? Quote
Loop Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 That is sofaking nice. I was wondering if Bandai would ever make one of these but highly doubt it. Nice to see someone made a custom! Quote
mechaninac Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 That's effin brilliant! Do the wings rotate at all within their gloves or are they fixed? My only criticism, and it's a really insignificant nitpick at that, is that you should have installed 2 hard points per wing as opposed to just one, and instead of adding the ones to the wing gloves... looks nice but may interfere with mounting the Super pack. Note to Bandai: Look at what Bravo5 has created, take inspiration from it, and start working on a mass produced version. Quote

Being able to hang additional gunpods from those wing gloves would look awesome. Quote
bravo5 Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Thanks for the comments guys! That's effin brilliant! Do the wings rotate at all within their gloves or are they fixed? I thought bout the super parts and to make them fit would require modification to accommodate for the hard point. I used one hardpoint on the wing, using this model as my guide: http://www1.cablenet.ne.jp/shima-m/macros2.htm Quote
spanner Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Mate that looks really good! You're putting Bandai to shame with this one as you beat them to it! Keep up the great work! Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Up on eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Renewal-DX-Bandai-1-60-Macross-VF-24A-from-a-YF-19-VF-25S-VF-171-parts-/261561264470?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item3ce6442956 Quote
bravo5 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Yep. I made 2, selling the original to fund the 0D Quote
Raya1823 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Wow, this is great!! I was looking at getting the 25A but now...maybe a 24A is in my future. Thanks again Quote
bravo5 Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thanks for the comments guys. I wish Bandai would make on of these and give it the Low Vis treatment. One can hope Quote
Zinjo Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) Very nice work!! Why did you choose the AUN logo to put on the vertical stabilizers? Had them lying around? As for the paint, you could have gone with the NUNS blue as it would appear that Federal fighters are now blue in the 2060's as per Mac F. Edited October 3, 2014 by Zinjo Quote
Zinjo Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) It reminds me of the Japanese kit builder Shima-M, who did a VF-25 conversion as a bare metal test version of the YF-24. http://www1.cablenet.ne.jp/shima-m/macros2.htm http://www.fg-site.net/archives/post_old/42520 He had the delta wings as per the line art, but yours looks cleaner by using the wing gloves as the leading edge points that the YF-24 has on the wings themselves. Making it an "A" model with a CF color scheme just adds to its charm. A hardcore conversion would require the removal of the gloves and the replacement with the full delta wings. No one has committed themselves to THAT much work on a YF-24 kit conversion... Edited November 10, 2014 by Zinjo Quote
PetarB Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 That's very nicely done! Like the colours as well. Quote
