Jefuemon Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Old school kit, with new school tooling. This is the Bandai rerelease of Imai's old 1/72 Regult kit. Even though it has new tooling, it's still an old school kit. Be ready for a lot of puttying and sanding!! Since the Zentradi didn't know anything about maintenance, I wanted to make this look like it's been in action a few hundred more cycles than it should have been. More to be seen at the regular place. Quote
GU-11 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Gorgeous. The rust weathering looks very realistic. About the maintenance thing, didn't Klan Klan say something about Zentran weaponry being impervious to wear and tear, after Alto killed that Vajra with a Zentran cannon? Quote

I think that was just the weapons, not the vehicles or ships. Quote
EXO Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Wow! You're on a modelling tear!!! Looks awesome! Quote
Jefuemon Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Wow! You're on a modelling tear!!! Looks awesome! Change in jobs really opened up my modeling time. Thing is, with my current "to do" pile, if I build 1 kit a month (and don't buy anything else new), I'll finish up in about 4 years. Quote
mslz22 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 It looks awesome, I really love the weathering! This kit and the old 1/72nd Glaug can look really good with just a little bit of work, some of the better proportioned releases from back then. mike Quote
vsim Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Nice! I still have this kit on back-order from HLJ, I think I'm up to month 7 now . Quote
Mr March Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Incredible work! The results are truly outstanding given how old the source material is. I've adopted a similar philosophy for coloring line art, LOL. I think the weathering and rust look particularly good. Built to last, but in dreadful disrepair; a very Zentradi-like mindset. Bravo! jvmacross Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Nice work. I imagine it belonging to an ace pilot before being reassigned to a Glaug. But I'm wondering, would a Regult ever get to be that worn out? Unless the pilot is an ace...I'm guessing the Regult would be floating scrap metal in space sooner rather than later...not one in service for hundreds of years...enough to become a rust bucket. And if the pilot was that good...he/she would probably get a better mech. Wonder what the average service life is for a Regult in the Macross universe? Quote
PetarB Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 This looks much, much better than it should, considering the kit. Nice work! Quote
grapetang Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Don't know how I missed this thread the first time around. Great job on an ancient kit & nice choice of colors. The subtle shades & weathering are nice! Quote
valid Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 i bought the 1:100.. hate it.. the plastic easily break... Quote
valid Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 quick question.. for the rust effect.. what paint and technique that you use? Quote
Jefuemon Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 I used Sabitennen. The red bottle is very fine metal flakes in a suspended solution. The blue is an oxidizer. Basically, you paint on the metal, let it dry for a day, then put the oxidizer on it, and in 2-4 days you've got real rust. For the streaks I used Mr. Color weathering "rust". Quote
