Saburo Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 That should be right. I took it as one barrel and a sensor/scope. Thanks Yeti! I got the package in the mail today. Quote
jodokast Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 They fold up into the shuttle body. This VB is a perfect transformation. The only thing lacking is a set of landing gears... I notice you've got the robot spirits vf-25 and QRAU. Are those 1/100 scale? wish I could preorder the 1/100 vf-1 GBP-1 as a nice size comparison. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I need some help. I figured out how to drop down the lower turret (under nose cone). I am looking at mine and it has 1 long barrel (right) and a 1 stub (left) on it. I wanted to ask if anyone can confirm this is how it supposed to be? I was looking at the stub and it doesn't appear the barrel snapped off at first glance. Out of curiosity, I consulted the original lineart, and as Yeti mentioned, it's a single turret with an adjacent targeting lens. I also pulled up a video of Frontier with Canaria transforming from bomber to destroid, and the nose turret is the same. So, your toy is good to go! Quote

I had a moment of panic when I rotated the turret around. I figured it was ok, the sensor lens side didn't look like it was broken plastic. I just wanted to have some peace of mind. Looks like I need to retake photos with the turret deployed. Quote

Saburo Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Don't forget to add the "hardware" you just received! I wanna see those too! Will do! It will be nice to have some time with Macross toys, I have been photographing other toys lately. Quote
wm cheng Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Woohoo! Picked it up from the post office yesterday... thanks NY for no duties or customs. First impressions... (I've never had one of these before) - boy the package was flat... I was afraid they packed the wrong thing. Wow, its big and heavy in Shuttle form. I love it, solid with some heft AND lots of tampo markings all over it. It felt premium and definitely worth its price (especially considering it was a 1/3rd less than recent Arcadia offerings). I'm just happy to feel great when I opened it - I've been let down twice now with Arcadia after spending considerably more. I just don't understand all this hatred for Bandai and the general "Acardia-can-do-no-wrong" attitudes on these boards (I know I'm in the minority). Aside from Bandai's ridiculous pre-ordering system, I consistently gain more enjoyment from my Bandai Valkyries. It was fun to transform, it had re-assuring clicks on all the main joints, nothing was too tight that it felt like it would break or too loose that it would be floppy. Plus it didn't look naked out of the box, it looked great and I love the olive colour. I just spent the weekend finally decaling my Arcadia YF-19 (after spending a year trying to scrounge and make decals from all sources) just to make it look acceptable - argh! Anyways, I'm pretty happy with this toy and highly recommend it to those still on the fence. I was on the fence as this wasn't a high priority item for me, I never got the original releases and was just fine with it. Now I'm glad I got one at a very reasonable price and its one of those things that grows on me the more I play and look at it. It will be great with some panel lining (oh yeah, really consistent and nice panel lines that will take a wash really well - unlike the recent Arcadia offerings - argh again!) a flat/matte clear coat and some armour dry-brush/paint chip weathering! But no rush, because it looks so great on its own. What's much more important to me is trying to get that VF-0D colour corrected and decaled up from being just a dark blob of nakedness... not looking forward to that process... Oh, BTW, when I first pulled the bottom hip/portion down, it seemed stuck, and the little turret with the gun was rotated so the gun barrel was sideways and prevented the whole assembly from dropping, luckily I noticed it and had to rotate it with a tweezer so it would clear the opening when it dropped. wm cheng Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 BTW, what scale is this Monster... 1/100? I feel like I need some VF-25 or something around it to show its not in scale with my other VF-25. Is there something from Frontier that I can put with this Bandai Monster that would be in scale with it? How about these, will they work? http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN959023/Act http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN960345/Act Quote

Though you might need to paint it all since the attached marking are stickers. Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Yep, if you want do display it with a full skull squad, it'll take a lot of work to paint up the 1/100 kits in the right colors, but they're actually nice little kits, easy to build, and decent detail and fit for the size. No super/armored/RVF versions, but they're cheap enough you could build up a small army of brownie VF-25Fs to escort it if you dont feel like tweaking the head lasers to make A-models. HLJ is currently backordered, but they always seem able to stock more of them. http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN969488/Sci If you want to display it next to the full squad in packs, or make things simpler to paint, the 1/72 kits are probably close enough to look decent as well. wm cheng Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Thanks! I have a lot of aircrafts (in fact almost all of my collection sits in that mode - except for the armored VF-25S in Battroid and the tornadoed VF-25F in Gerwalk) so I think this Monster deserves some Battroids in front of it... Quote
jenius Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I'm getting a little worried... mine has been in Los Angeles since 4/30 according to tracking. Last time this happened USPS lost my package. Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 They're being typical LAX customs, taking their sweet time. Quote
jenius Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Fingers crossed you're right! I have a new photo rig so I'm really looking forward to getting this buy and playing with it! Quote
Las Vegas Dad Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Finally got mine today. Took their time! Unbox tomorrow. Quote
brouken Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Aaaand Customs wants me to send them a copy of my invoice. I have insctructed Nippon-yasan to declare the full value of the items I order from them from now on. :-( Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 So, the postal service just can't seem to be bothered to keep their tracker site updated. Arrived in LAX monday, and first update since then is this morning, saying it's out for delivery in my town. Didn't even mention customs, it just didnt update for 4 days. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Mine's been in LA since the 4th, with no further updates. I figured on its being delivered today, but who knows. Great service they provide, esp when you paid extra for it. Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I don't even buy anything higher than registered SAL for this exact reason. Regardless of how fast it gets to LA, it's still going to sit there for a week while they putz around. Quote
ArchieNov Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Congrats on your purchase. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. I just don't understand all this hatred for Bandai and the general "Acardia-can-do-no-wrong" attitudes on these boards (I know I'm in the minority). Don't worry, I feel the same way as you do. Whenever I've tried to defend Bandai (not just on this board), more often than not someone will go all out to put them down. And when I call out a few criticisms on some Yamato/Arcadia offerings, a defender is quick to appear. I don't trash either manufacturer as I like the products offered by both, but I recognize neither is perfect and they each have their own pros and cons over one another. The same is almost also true when I try to defend Nippon Yasan. Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I think I just generally appreciate Yamato/Arcadia's approach to engineering to Bandai's. I really don't see the need for die-cast in valks, and Bandai tends to use it in all the wrong places, guaranteeing that your valk is going to wind up with paint chips aplenty in extremely visible places. Between that and the almost assured floppiness over time, I just have grown to like Yamato/Arcadia's designs better. Anyway, just got my monster, and this thing is definitely beastly. For better or for worse, yes, the nose decals are just that: decals, and not very sturdy ones at that. I chipped away part of Ranka's hair just brushing my fingers over them. Between the general tendency of Bandai stuff to be coated in mold release, and the gaudiness of the logos, I might just scratch them off with my fingernails. Quote

McFly!! Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Are there any known issues with leaving the oily stuff/mold release thingamajig on the paint? Not sure if I want to open these up just to wipe it off... Quote
Loop Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Hey Jodokast, the is actually a DX/Robot Spirits release. I bought the robot spirits releases just so they would scale with it since my collection is 1/48 and 1/60. I bought a complete pixie squadron, VF-25F Super and the VF-25G Super. I kinda wish they would have made the Ozma that they showed and Luca's RVF just to complete the mainline figures. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Finally, it came today. The tracking never updated past its arrival at LA on the 4th, so I was starting to become concerned, until the postman knocked on my door this afternoon. Mine came in a pretty interesting slap together box with enough packing tape to last two Christmas'. But I digress. Out of the box, my copy looks to be in excellent shape, with no stress marks to be seen anywhere. It did have a bit of a sheen, so I tamped it with a soft cloth to soak up any residual release agent. So far I only converted it to GERWALK, which was full of clicky joint goodness. The ratchets and die cast were used to good effect in areas where structural integrity and stress is of concern. It's night and day in comparison to the Yamato Monster in terms of joint strength, and ability to hold a pose. Shuttle mode is solid, and I like how they molded the groin flaps to cover the gaping hole under the shoulders to make the shuttle much more streamlined. I wasn't crazy about the nose art, but in hand, my eye is drawn to so many other aspects of the thing that I barely notice it. IMO, Bandai did an amazing job translating this into a rather impressive toy. And like the other Frontier toys, the tampo is copious, and the paint apps well done, at least on mine. Very glad I got it. Quote
Benson13 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I had the same problem with customs and got mine today as well. Unfortunately I barely got it out of the box before I had to leave the house. Quote
jenius Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Man... I still don't have mine . I'm worried maybe NY scribbled the address on it funny. Quote
Valk-1S Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Mine finally came in yesterday after being in limbo for over a week between leaving Osaka and reaching Australia. Quote
brouken Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Funny how a lot of us seem to have encountered some kind of delay in the delivery of this toy. Mine's essentially in Customs limbo for now. For those who got theirs, is this thing unusually heavy? I.e. heavier than the other toys you got delivered? I noticed that our local customs officials tend to take particular interest in the heavier packages that I get (and tax them higher too). Quote
