jvmacross Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Nice! Wasn't this one a Yamato venture at one point? Hmmmm........ http://www.ebay.com/itm/202001-1-72-Vakyire-Full-PE-Model-Jasmine-Model-Macross-VF-1/131177581442?_trksid=p2050601.c100085.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140211132617%26meid%3D6528486283255796895%26pid%3D100085%26prg%3D20140211132617%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D221427182184%26clkid%3D6528488583811690734&_qi=RTM1562570 Edited April 28, 2014 by jvmacross Quote
Vi-RS Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Another Chinese knockoff? I remember seeing picture of the Yamato's kit in a trash can because it was heavily damaged after the show, maybe someone picked it up from Yamato's trash bags? Quote
jvmacross Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Hopefully someone will combine a 1/72 Hasegawa VF-1S and the Jasmine Model to create this.... Did anyone here ever put one of these together? Quote
MechTech Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Talk about a photetch monstrosity! I must admit I like the silver better than the brass color (closer to aluminum colors). It does look like a knock-off from the few parts I compaired, but I didn't thoroughly look at it. - MT Quote
wm cheng Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Hopefully someone will combine a 1/72 Hasegawa VF-1S and the Jasmine Model to create this.... That was my first thought! Have it in a hanger with all the access panels removed undergoing a major systems overhaul, tons of wiring and plumbing everywhere. I wished I was independently wealthy and didn't have to work... ah, I can dream. Quote
jvmacross Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 No Big West sticker....maybe that company was subcontracted by Yamato to create it in the first place and since Yamato/Arcadia did/are doing nothing with it.......... I agree it looks better in silver... That was my first thought! Have it in a hanger with all the access panels removed undergoing a major systems overhaul, tons of wiring and plumbing everywhere. I wished I was independently wealthy and didn't have to work... ah, I can dream. The Jasmine kit begs for a diorama of this..... Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Nice, but ouch, 140 for a 1/72... hmmmm.... I'd like to see that Yamato one in the trash can, anyone has the picture?? hehe Quote
wm cheng Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Yeah, $140 is just too much, I'd pay 1/2 that. Quote
derex3592 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I wouldn't EVER even attempt that kit! LOL Quote
Duymon Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Nope Nope Nope. the extent of my photo etch experience is tacking on pre-printed eduards panels together and making cockpits look dope. Wouldn't touch this with a 10-ft pole unless I really hated myself Quote
wm cheng Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Yeah, but aren't us modelers sadist anyways? Quote
Valkyrie2008 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 This is a bit pricey, but it's nice looking plane, it would be great if they make one in 1/48 scale. Quote
Kylwell Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I'd pick one up in a heartbeat if I had the cash. Being that the two are of the same subject you'd expect some similarity. As it is Jasmine makes some awesome PE detail sets for the Hasegawa Macross aircraft. Quote
electric indigo Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Easily a collection centerpiece. Too bad you can only assemble it with telekinesis in zero gravity... Quote
Phyrox Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Here's a question for the modelling guys around here (maybe it could go in the other thread, but this seems an appropriate place for it): How do you remove PE parts without fear of warping/bending them? I use PE occasionally for a cockpit or with armor accessories, but there is always the chance that in merely removing the part from the sheet I'll crease it. I usually cut with a sharp x-acto against a flat cutting board...but even then the sheet has some flex once pressure is applied to the spur. Solutions from the gurus? Quote
CrazyDude Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Get some PE scissors or a sharp X-Acto cutting on top of a glass pane, either way a bit sanding might be required. Quote
jvmacross Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Reply from Jasmine Model: "The YAMATO's PE VF-1 was designed by ours. YAMATO was bankrupt, couldn't finish the project. So we added some details and restart this project." Also asked if there were any plans for other scales.....they said none at this time. Wonder if by "some details" they meant adding the engines? Any of the MW modelling experts ever build this type of kit before? It just looks like it would take an extreme amount of patience.....let alone skill. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 My main question is how it says it has 154 parts. That seems really low. Like is the wing-rib assembly just one piece Z-folded a zillion times? Quote

I usually cut with a sharp x-acto against a flat cutting board...but even then the sheet has some flex once pressure is applied to the spur. Solutions from the gurus? First, don't use a cutting mat. Use a hard tile or steel plate. Second, use a #12 or a #10 Exacto blade. One with a curve to the edge so you can roll it on to the fret connection. Quote
coronadlux Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hmm, if I can spare the cash, after paying the captain for his blueberry crab, I might just be crazy enough to buy this next week. It is pricey but seeing some of the cash I unloaded a few years back on camera gear, I can somewhat justify this buy. Being a Chinese product, are there any concerns about quality or there? Quote
VF-19 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I also suggest using some painters tape on the underside as you cut, so that the itty bitty parts don't achieve orbital velocity when you free them from the fret. Quote

THIS!! I have spent far too long looking for a little flight stick that went flying on the floor. Thank god I didn't have Carpet. Quote
coronadlux Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I use double sided tape I get at work. Fontenot the thick 3M kind. It's actually thin and very strong. We use it to tape plastic samples and machine them down to 1/32nd. Quote

neptunesurvey Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I wonder if he will have any at WF? The price is a little steep for the PE VF-1. It does look like an interesting project thou. Quote
Kylwell Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 (edited) Most likely. Just thought of a wonderfully confusing way to get one. Contact Tom to have him bring one to Wonderfest this month. Then get a hold of Blappy to pick it up for you. Once he gets back he tosses it in the Canadian postal system and there you have it. Edited May 2, 2014 by Kylwell Quote
