areaseven Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Snoopy and company return to the big screen after over 35 years. Peanuts is produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox, and is directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who!, Ice Age: Continental Drift). No word on who will voice the characters, but the film will use recordings of the late Bill Melendez (1916-2008) for Snoopy and Woodstock. Peanuts premieres on November 6, 2015 Official Site Quote
Duke Togo Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 It's supposed to adhere to the classic Peanuts world. Quote
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 they can use the same voiceovers for charlie brown's teachers as well... Chronocidal Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Ok.. can't say I'm not skeptical, but the fact that they're drawing 2-dimensional motion lines (in 3D no less) over the top of 3-dimensional animation has me very intrigued. It looks like they've rendered the characters, and then gone back to draw in all the faces and gestures after the fact. Plus, sourcing the original soundtrack and character voices will probably sell me quickly on it. I just hope they can keep to the classic story styling, and keep in mind how Schulz may have wanted things done with his characters. I grew up with the original Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas specials, and the more recent productions with the characters have gotten further and further off the mark set by those. Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Love Peanuts...in for this. Ditto! Although I probably won't have the occasion to see this in the theater but I'll definitely add it to my home collection (much like The Lego Movie once it comes out). -b. Quote
Dynaman Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) They can't use any of the older voice actors any longer (other then snoopy and Woodstock) since they were always done by children - most likely they are not "voice" actors capable of sounding like their old selves. That said the original Charlie Brown voice might be free about this time... Peanuts films have been hit or miss over the years (the original two being great and the others from OK to dreadful) so hopefully this is a good one. Edited March 25, 2014 by Dynaman Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Actually, I'm not worried about any of the other voices, just because I've seen some insanely good voice talent out there. If they aim for people who can imitate the classic sound, they'll get it. I'm sure if they needed, they could probably get a good Bill Melendez impersonator too, but being able to use his original voicework is too perfect to pass up. Quote

Can't they just recreate the voices using computers? Hasn't technology advanced that far? Just wondering... Quote
Dynaman Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 They might, but one of the hallmarks of the Peanuts cartoons is that they DID use children for the voices. Personally I think it would be a big mistake not to continue doing so. If they do go with VAs then they most likely will get the best though. Quote
Dynaman Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 The voices seem spot on for the original Peanuts cast, very nice. Didn't hear Sally's voice though (hers is one that changed a lot over the years) Quote
aerocombatpilot Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I am SOOOOOOO going to enjoy this! Quote
Nekko Basara Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Snoopy is great and all, but I was really hoping this was going to be about those twins who sing to wake up Mothra. Quote
areaseven Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 As shown on the recent trailer, the film is now called The Peanuts Movie. Here's the voice cast: Bill Melendez (1916-2008) as Snoopy and Woodstock (archival recordings) Noah Schnapp as Charlie Brown Hadley Belle Miller as Lucy Van Pelt AJ Teece as Pig-Pen Noah Johnston as Schoeder Venus Schultheis as Peppermint Patty Alexander Garfin as Linus Van Pelt Francesca Capaldi as the Little Red-Haired Girl Mar Mar as Franklin Mariel Sheets as Sally Brown Rebecca Bloom as Marcie William Alexander Wunsch as Shermy Anastasia Bredikhina as (the other) Patty Madisyn Shipman as Violet The screenplay is co-written by Charles Schulz's son Craig and grandson Bryan, as Peanuts will always be under Schulz control. TangledThorns Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 The older crowd, mainly us parents, will see this but I wonder if our kids will enjoy it. Quote
Chronocidal Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 The cynic in me keeps thinking this will become horribly messed up somehow, but every time I hear Snoopy's voicework, I can't help but get a little choked up, and think this will be amazing. Quote
mechaninac Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Good grief... I'm surprised no one has made this little pun yet, so I felt compelled... Quote

Hearing Snoopy however brings out my inner kid alittle everytime. Quote
TangledThorns Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 The modern hip-hop music in the trailer grinds my gears. Quote
Dynaman Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Looks good to me. Voices sound good and the animation does an excellent job of mimicking that "minimalist" style of the originals... Quote
areaseven Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 (edited) Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 86% - "The Peanuts Movie offers a colorful gateway into the world of its classic characters and a sweetly nostalgic -- if relatively unambitious -- treat for the adults who grew up with them."Metacritic Score: 67 out of 100And here are The Piano Guys doing their rendition of the theme. Chronocidal Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I want to breathe a huge sigh of relief that people are saying it's true to the original. Might have to see this one around Christmas.. it might go well as a follow up to the annual viewing of the original specials. Quote

TehPW Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Saw it with the whole family (as my wife's BD gift this year). 9 out of 10 halflings. I really liked the VA's they choose, couldn't hardly tell the difference in comparison to any of the 70's VA's of that era. Quote
Shadow Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I think I'm sold. Going to go see it this week. Quote
Dobber Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I saw it with my family when it opened. It was great! Snoopy really steals the show. I teared up a little at the end. Chris Quote
