505thAirborne
Two episodes in on MASTERS OF THE AIR, for whatever reasons I was having little faith if this series was going to be any good, something about the trailers just didn't feel right, especially the CGI... well, I love being wrong sometimes. So far, I am really enjoying this, everything looks and feels authentic, the scenes with the crews eating their breakfast, ground/mechanic crews, the pilots getting their flights suits on, it's all very well laid out and filmed. There is some narration in the show and works perfectly IMO. A couple of guys I keep in touch with who are a part of the CAF (Commemorative Air Force) said they helped out with their B-17 (I think she's called Sentimental Journey) for all of the engine & inflight sound effects, if you've ever seen a real B-17 up close and heard those engines kick over, that's what you hear in this show (none of that weird off putting made up sound-effects you hear in some WWII movies, PEARL HARBOR is a grand example.) The .50 Calibers & FLAK are deafening. The way they do the pre-flight is detailed, really nice touch. There's a couple of scenes in that are both based on real events and at least for me, feel like a nod to the film Memphis Belle. So far for now, this is on my Blu-ray purchase list! 505thAirborne
Is anyone here watching TRUE DETECTIVE Night Country? If so, does anyone know what's actually going on? Honestly, I'm lost with this one, there's so far not a single character I remotely care about, there's a tie in with season 1 apparently, a young girl was murdered years before, possibly evil spirits are involved, and the writers decided that people only use the word F-ck to describe every moment in their lives. So yeah, what's happening here or is this another, it all comes (sort of) together at the last moment kind of story?
TangledThorns
Finished seasons two of Bosch: Legacy and Reacher, both really good fun.

It definitely has its moments, but it felt a little like certain story and character elements could’ve used some work. Overall, it’s not bad and I’ve been craving churros ever since Finally finished The Brothers Sun this weekend. It’s silly fun with some good action. Kinda smelled a key plot twist from a mile away. But yeah, it was still pretty enjoyable. And if you cause a man to burn his pastries, your ass is gonna catch a beatdown.

Seto Kaiba
Has anyone here given Amazon Prime's Hazbin Hotel a whirl? Slightly greedy ad-free markup aside, I just finished watching the eight episode first season and found it to be surprisingly engaging. The premise was unusual enough to get my attention from the word "go", and the songs are surprisingly well written. If it weren't for all the profanity and occasional cartoon gore or the fact that it's set in literal Hell, you could almost mistake it for a standard Disney musical. 505thAirborne
Now that I have Apple TV+ for Masters of the Air... I've started watching FOUNDATION, it's a little slow but I'm enjoying the story so far, the special effects are top tier for this series. As for episode 3 of MOTA, damn, it's amazing anyone in those bombers ever survived their missions. The below freezing temps, flak and swarms of BF-109's/FW-190's is that of your worst nightmares. For a while there the percentage chance of completing a 25 mission tour of duty was in the single digits. P51 drop tanks (allowing them to stay all the way on long range missions) and even more so fighter airbases on the mainland changed the odds to be much better. Sweet, I didn't realize that was an RDM production, I'll give it a watch for sure. @Dynaman Yeah, at the time of the Regensburg Bombing Raid the P-51 wasn't the long-range escort we've come to know yet and the P-47/38's just didn't have the range, so yeah, those B-17's & 24's were sitting ducks long before they hit their targets. What's crazy is the German fighter planes armed with rockets... turns out that was real and with devastating effect.
Wolf-1
Just finished-up Amazon's Zorro and was pleasantly surprised. The show is filmed in Spanish but Amazon does provide a dubbed English track. The show mainly sticks to the typical Zorro story but did throw in a Native aspect that I haven't encountered before; it adds to the mystique while also providing addition drama. Action scenes kind of go all over the place; some fights are very technical, while others, editing does the work; the Mexican Army isn't full of idiot's this time around so, it has that going for it. No one is going to win an Emmy but performances are for the most part, good. It's not going to compete with Mask of Zorro or even the Legend of Zorro; but it does beat out the old Family Channel show, which is where I really came into enjoying the character as a whole. Overall, worth checking out at a bare minimum.

TangledThorns
Finished the 7th season of Rick & Morty on MAX. It has its moments and while they did a decent job of replacing Justin Roiland's voice this was the weakest season. I'd be surprised if they make it to season 10 as planned. Weirder than that is Solar Opposites. They didn’t even pretend to find someone that sounded like him. They just played it off as that was just circumstance
Mog
Caught up on Masters of the Air. Yeah, you definitely get a good sense of how bonkers and how bad the survival stats were for those bombers. Severance is definitely a trippy concept. Even without the brain stuff here, there's been days where my work self and my home self feel separated from one another. Like I'll forget a certain task or chore I need to do for home life, until I actually come home from work. But yeah, I hope Spoiler they provide some answers with Season 2. Didn't realize who the main character's wife was the first watch-thru.
Thom
Waiting for episode 5 for Masters of the Air. Really good series so far, as those almost four hours whizzed on by. My one critique would be (and I'm sure those more in 'the know' about the air war might glean more) if the pilot calls for feathered props, then feather the props! Most times, it's like the CGI guys didn't get the command from the cockpit.

That's the thing about the Memphis Belle film from the 90s, it is arguably the most accurate yet inaccurate historical film ever made, in that almost everything in it happened to some crew at some point, but not just the Memphis Belle crew on their last mission. Early in the film's production the decision was made to not depict the Belle's final mission with any accuracy, but show the hell a typical mission could be at it's worst during the worst point in time of the daylight bombing campaign for the 8th Airforce. Would have been more apt to take the iconic name off of it and just title it, 'The Fortress.' That's one of the problems with MoTA, for despite how good it is they insist on changing events for more drama, when the events themslves have all the drama you need. Take... spoiler for Ep 3... Spoiler Curtis Biddick's death. In reality, there was a hellish oxygen fire in the cockpit and some crew report seeing him trying to get out the side window - without a chute... I understand the dramatic moment of giving the audience a possible save when they see the clearing, but the reality is even mroe heart-rending. Spoiler It really was, only 17 bombers to start, 4 heading back with engine problems then whittled down to just 13 with zero escorts. Those two B-17's slamming into each other and then realizing that was "She's Gonna"; Bubbles Fort, that was brutal. I really felt bad for Crosby, you can see the guilt he feels. As for Bucky, bailing out & landing safely will be the least of his problems.
Mog
Yeah, I read up about real-life Buck and a little about Bucky. And the show runners have definitely been prepping us the past few eps for these gut-shots Spoiler like the waiting between the start of mission and the birds’ return, people never returning back from a mission, the whole situation with downed airmen, etc.

electric indigo
So I'm two episodes into True Detective: Night Country, and – does it get better? It should have been an easy receipe of The Thing x Thunderheart, but somehow doesn't achieve the slightest suspense so far. I'm all for a slow buildup, but everything feels so staged, and I lost count how many "Chief, you gotta see this..." transitions we had already. The setup and actors are there, but IMO it deserved a better director.
