cool8or Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 VF-22 is in preorder in HLJ and Hobbysearch, but VF-1 only appears in Amazon, I don't know why. http://www.hlj.com/product/SOF37433/Boo http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4797372737/ Quote
Jefuemon Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Oooohhhh, the squadrons one could be real interesting to look through, especially with my scanner ready. Got quite a few older VF-1 kits that I wouldn't mind giving various markings. Quote

Jefuemon Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Do I read it right? You can create different marking (decals?) for VF1 based on the Master book upon release? Well, if I scan, then print out the decals myself. Easy enough that anyone can do it. What I'm trying to say is that, no, I will not be taking any commissions to make decals, since I'm just laser printing onto Fine Molds clear decal paper. Nothing worth paying me for. Quote
chyll2 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 the idea is fairly new to me though i guess, i just hit google and see what I can find on making your own decals. Quote
cool8or Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Jefuemon, how is the result of decals printed with laser printers? Are they flexible enough? I always used inkjet printers but I'm curious about the paper made for laser printers. Quote
chyll2 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 cool8or, how do you print yours? i searched earlier and it seems that inkjet waterslide decals needs to be sealed after drying? is it the same process until now? Quote
CoreyD Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I'm down for the squadron book if I can get it from hlj. Quote
Roy Focker Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Must have them both. Too bad I'll be paying double the cover price after shipping. Quote
claude grant Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Thanks for the heads up cool8or! I love these books & I have them all so far, so much appreciated! Quote
wm cheng Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Will they come out together to combine shipping? (at at least close enough for the HLJ warehouse to work?) Quote

I always used inkjet printers but I'm curious about the paper made for laser printers. Not too bad. For a first time trying it, I was happy with my results. All the decal work on this truck was made by me. I didn't have to do any type of sealing, just print, dip, and place. Mr. Mark Setter didn't do anything bad to them. One bad point is that the clear sheet are clear! Don't try to put it on anything darker than a light grey, or you won't be able to see anything. Quote
Mommar Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Somehow I missed this entire thread. However, just based on other releases in this series if it says due out in March expect to see them in August or September. Quote
cool8or Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 I just received a HLJ notification for payment, VF-1 Squadrons book is already in stock. Any idea about when the VF-22 book will be released? Quote
CoreyD Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Yeah I just got my payment request too. That was unexpectedly faster than I'd anticipated. Quote
Mommar Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I just got my shipping notice for SDF-1. Supposedly the 22 book was listed for March as well. I find that hard to believe. Seems like they would space them out a bit more than that. Quote
Mommar Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) Looks like my SDF-1 book is scheduled to be here by Friday. Anybody already received theirs? Just an FYI to anybody looking to check out a few pics before the book arrives. Otaku.com has a few preview pics from inside available. That third pic, with Max's 1J in space, is an interesting idea but.... it looks REALLY dumb. http://otaku.com/products/38552 Edited March 5, 2014 by Mommar Quote
sketchley Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Anybody already received theirs? Just went and picked up a copy. Here's a brief rundown of the content: SDF-1 VF-1 squadrons (surprise, surprise, it only occupies about a 1/4 of the book) SDF-1 Macross, its history, and the Zentraadi (the later one most surprised me. I don't think the Zentraadi pickles have ever looked this good) Carrier Air Wing of VF-1 (including pilot suits and diagrams of tactical deployments) Spider Bug in CG, and a 'super' Spider Bug A few new VF-1 variations (VF-1L) and FAST Pack variants A few pages dedicated to Fokker, Hikaru, Max, and their rides ... and Destroids! In summary: a good buy. Quote
Mommar Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Please tell me they have more photos of the SDF-1 proper? I only wish i could read the things. Edited March 6, 2014 by Mommar Quote
sketchley Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Please tell me they have more photos of the SDF-1 proper? I only wish i could read the things. Quite a few (though by photo, I hope you mean CG, and not a picture of a model/toy). Surprisingly, all of them are of the TV series version (including the one in the 2 picts of Macross City), and a good chunk of them are the SDF-1 without the Daedalus or Prometheus attached as arms (obviously the pictures of it on South Ataria Island, but a surprising number of those in space). Should I mention that there are also a decent collection of picts on the Zentraadi Rigaado and the F-15J++? Quote
VF5SS Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Is that like Kawamori's F-15 redesign from Patlabor 2 or something else? Quote

The picture of the cover make the SDF-1 look pretty spectacular, and it's the SDFM colors/design, so that makes me doubly happy. They only had a few SDF-1 pics in the first VF-1 Master File book and I don't recall the Prometheus or Daedalus attached in those photos really. The F-15J++? Why so many pics of that? Is there anything interesting in there you might do some translations of at some point? I don't know what a Rigaado is. Quote
sketchley Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I don't know what a Rigaado is. Rigaado is the romanization of the Japanese name of this: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/Regult/Regult.php Quote
Mommar Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 My book showed up today. Pretty cool. I'm curious what the combat maneuver parts are all about. One looks like waves of fighters, the other looks to be describing some capitol ship deployment technique. The pics of the VF-1 with fuel tanks attached in a manner similar for the VF-0 is interesting too. I always thought having missile mounts like on the VF-0 (though they don't show that in this book) would have made a lot of sense for the VF-1 as well. Quote
Roy Focker Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Walked to a store and placed a special order for it yesterday. Should be able to pick it up in a week. Macross Books are the only Macross collectable that I can afford. The toys are too expensive now. Quote
sketchley Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Is there anything interesting in there you might do some translations of at some point? Didn't answer this earlier: there are a couple of spots that are very interesting, but I'm totally swamped with Macross Chronicle. There are a couple of sections from the VFMF VF-25 book that I've completed that are waiting in the wings until I'm done with MC... and that's about when I can think about this book. Oh, the pictures of the book with the Spider Bug moving the VF-1 (or the VF-1 floating in space off the bow of the SDF-1) are "historical" photographs taken just after the space fold to the orbit of Pluto, during the operation to salvage the Prometheus, Daedalus, and everything else they can from South Ataria Island. Hopefully that bit of context will help readers make more sense of those pictures. Quote
Mommar Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Thanks for the comment, it looked like that larger bug was moving things around on the deck of one of the Carriers in space but context was lost. I am curious what the text on pages 04 and 05 are about given the rather ominous photo. If you look in the background there are a LOT of wrecked VF-1's in the background. Given the effort to make these photos look realistic it makes the situation seem a lot more ominous. It gives you more of an idea how desperate they were and why they would start recruiting kids Hikaru's age if that many pilots/fighters are being taken out each skirmish. Quote

If memory serves, all of those pictures with that thin white cloud over black space (sometimes with wreckage, sometimes without) take place in the orbit of Pluto after the space fold. Nevertheless, it is a cool effect with a lot of silhouetted debris and hints at what the series might look like if it were made now. Quote

sketchley Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I'm surprised there haven't been more comments on this book, it's a pretty cool one. Exhaustion from the approaching end of the school/work year and preparation for the start of a new one (not to mention the scramble in some industries to meet demand before the tax increase - glad I'm not in construction right now!), which may be contributing to us Japanese residents being too tired to talk about it. Quote
Roy Focker Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Got my copy yesterday. While the book is about VF-1 Squadrons of the Macross it really is more a brief over view of the Macross and it's Mecha. With a strong focus on the VF-1 Funny with all the Squadrons paint patterns we only saw the basic brown VF-1 all the time. Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I picked up my copy recently and I have a few impressions. So if I'm interpreting this correctly, the Macross had Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) assigned to it from the beginning. Carrier Air Wing 1 (CVW-1), which included Skull Squadron was assigned to the Prometheus. CVW-9 included SVF-48, 38, 6, 22, 13, 44 and 32. CVW-1 included SVF-1, 2, 20, 63, 28, 68 and 37.SVF-48 are the Blue Hawks and have Valkyries painted in blue and white. I also like SVF-44's insignia, a pair of crossed gunpods over the UN Spacy kite. I'm particularly interested in that VF-1L. Quote
