Hey @jvmacross.  I put them side-by-side and measured the VF-1A to the Orguss based on the given height measurement from their respective product descriptions. Hope it helps. :good:

Edit: I checked the Hi-Metal R Xabungle page and it says 17cm. If you have one, you can probably use it to compare it with a VF-1 figure to have an idea how big this Orguss is going to be.

Thanks....so maybe the HMR is closer to a 1/60 VF-1?

1/60 VF-1 is at 21cm. The outcome will become the opposite of what was shown earlier. Orguss proportion would look too small for it. How about KitzConcept's 1/72 VF-1A? Which is 19cm based on its product description. Maybe this one will work. :good:

*Please note the VF-1A above is still the Hi-Metal R version and not the KitzConcept model.

I prefer the first comparison. I think using the diminutive HMR head piece would make the Orgroid look like a massive armor upgrade for the CF guys.

I get the armor upgrade concept. But it's not going to match the image below from jvmacross. If this is going to push thru, it's gonna be one expensive custom. ;)

It would be far cheaper and more likely easier to kitbash the upcoming moderoid kit with a couple Macross kits , like the head from a 1a and parts from an armored Valkyrie kit and maybe leg and fore arm parts from a super Valkyrie. Just gotta figure out which scale Valkyrie kits to get to fit the Orgus kit. Or maybe someone is really good with 3D printing. Either way, I’d love to see it.

True. I would do that if I'm good at kit building/painting and if I have time on actually doing it. But then, we also haven't heard from @jvmacross of his actual plan. ;)

True. The CF 1A’s camera “eye” isn’t the right color either and changing it from green to red is way outside of my meager ability. But I would be keen to see the HMR 1A head attached to a t.h.i.c. neck piece just to compare it to the artwork in person.

Just FYI, if you are an Orguss fan and have not yet ordered the Figure King magazine yet....DO IT.

It is just awesome-covers all the Takatokus, Ohsatos, tons of Line Art, interviews, Model kits, and collectibles...it is AWESOME.
It is the definitive ORGUSS collectors book!
If you are a fan of the Macross Package Art book, you can find the same artists did the model kits (Suzuki and Takani)

Wait a sec...does this

mean there was a Logwood gashapon made?

Man, that's the one thing for Orguss I always really really wanted and thought had never been produced.  I would love a model...but this would be cool too!

Wait a minute, sorry if this is common knowledge, but where is that design from? It's not from any of the shows, right? Thanks in advance!

It’s Orguss 02 from Orguss 02. Wish Bandai will add this to their Hi-Metal R lineup.

Mainly cause no one wants to pay 230-300 bucks for a garage kit. Gonna be surprised if someone buys them.

Don’t be surprised. I’m pretty sure there’s people out there willing to pay for that amount for a garage kit. It just so happen that this is not catered to all of us. It’s for the diehard fans. ;)

Anyone have an idea how big are these kits beside the Megahouse Variable Hi-Spec Orguss figure? Are they proportioned? From what I know the Hi-Spec is 1/40 scale. These Imaii M.Lovers kits are 1/48. I’m just concerned that the M.Lovers might look big against the Orguss esp the cockpit area.  Want to know if they’re going to look good displayed together. Thanks. ;)

If the Orguss is true to the 1/40 scale, then it would be the other way around if the M.Lover kits are true to their 1/48 scale. There is the possibility that one of if not both companies are off in scale and they may be pretty close, or they could be really far off.

going by 1/35 scale Votoms versus 1/48 counterparts is a very big size difference. The 1/48’s are barely up to the knees of the 1/35’s. In larger scale, the differences in something like 1/40 to 1/48 may be noticeable even if it’s not quite as drastic as the Votoms example.

I still think it may be worth it to get the kits and judge for yourself. Those old Imai kits have always been ahead of their time in the looks department

So the Moderoid kit height is approximately 16cm as per the website info. So it's 1cm short from the Hi-Metal R figure at 17cm.

https://www.goodsmile.info/en/product/14334/MODEROID+Orguss.html

  • The model stands at about 160mm in height and features several points of articulation.
  • Reviewed and approved by mechanical designer Kazutaka Miyatake.
  • It can be transformed into its Orgroid, Flyer, Gerwalk and Tank forms without using interchangeable parts.
  • Cockpit parts that prioritize proper proportions are included for its Flyer and Gerwalk forms, bringing its appearance even closer to its look from the anime.
  • Missile gun and interchangeable hand parts are included.
  • The various parts of the mecha have been separated into different colored runners, pre-painted parts and stickers, making it easy to recreate the mecha with a simple assembly.

Wow so much new stuff.  Anyone think either of these (moderoid or HMR) will be better than the megahouse froma  few years back?  They seem to be quite a bit smaller but bigger isn't always better i guess.

EDIT

oops saw some comparison pics hmr vs. megahouse from the previous page.  man they both look great especially in bot mode.  The megahouse seems to be more balanced....like the other modes (mode 2 espeically) look better than the hmr though.

the moderoid looks interesting too, but is the smallest of the lot and also is more compromised in the other modes.  still all of them look so good!  i never was a fan of the anime but always liked this mecha design.

I don’t know about better, but I can afford the moderoid

That is hard to answer since they're all different from each other. Not to mention the scale and the current prices. It's like comparing DX VF-1 to the HMR VF-1 to a model kit VF-1. ;)

Useful scale is pretty much crap for any of the offerings.

In fiction the Orguss is listed as being 8.7 m tall.

HMR at 17 cm ~  1/51
Moderoid at 16 cm ~ 1/54
Variable Action at 21 cm ~ 1/41

Why is it so hard for these companies to design the Orguss with a more universal scale like 1/35, 1/48 or 1/60 in mind?

Bandai has been doing a lot of web exclusives for classic mecha as hg kits, like the Sirbine, Dragonar1, Vifam and now a scopedog. It wouldn’t surprise me if sometime in the not so distant future that they do an hg Orgus kit. Maybe 1/72 or something, but probably not as big as the other releases.

I like the 40th Anniversary Orguss plate design. From the recent Shizuoka Hobby Show 2023.
