They're basically charging you extra to cover up their own mistake. The big question in my mind is whether this is still the original blue color, or whether they're both changing the plastic, and spraying over the whole thing to lighten it. I will honestly be very curious to see if it turns out these premium versions are a new factory run, or if they just added paint to the original leftover stock with all the hip issues. How does he know they're doing this? Quote
Sanity is Optional Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 After looking at the images, it might be a top-coat shifting the color rather than actual paint. A matte top-coat will change the way plastic looks quite a lot. Also, has anyone seen confirmation that it is the same shade of blue underneath everything? Quote
Lolicon Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 As a person who spends a lot of free time detailing his valkyries, even I'm not that obsessed over the shade of blue used. I don't hear anyone bitching about the DX 1A having an oversaturated blue, which it does (but again doesn't bother me). Quote
Mommar Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 They want to hate Arcadia so they’ll nitpick one and not the other. Quote

"Slightly oversaturated" vs "a completely different color". Plus, either way, the 1A is still "Max blue" or thereabouts. But the original 0D, isn't "Shin blue"---it's "Max blue". It actually makes it look like "someone else's valk" because it's so wrong, that it's actually now the color for a different scheme. It'd be like if someone took an Ozma valk, but made the grey so light, that it was DYRL grey---then you've got Roy's scheme, and not Ozma's. You can only "get it so wrong" before it actually becomes "right for somebody else". Quote

We really won't know that until someone transforms theirs, and scrapes off the weathering. Really, for me, this comes down to "I don't want a weathered one, I just want it the right colors." Same exact issue I have with the FB2012 VF-4. I admit, I'm an oddball about this, but I just flat out do not want a weathered edition. I would honestly be willing to just plunk down the asking price for the weathered editions if I could get them in the standard PF format,. Arcadia just doesn't seem interested in offering that, and I'm not going to buy a weathered one just to ruin the value by cleaning it off myself, so in the end, it's just money saved for me. ArchieNov Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 So a couple of weeks back, I showed the weathered SV-51 I had commissioned. Not too long after, I decided to have the same person do the same for my VF-0D. Here are some in progress pics, although it's pretty much done already. What do you guys think? I think it looks pretty good Quote
Dobber Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 The blue areas look really nice....but, IMO, the white/light grey under surfaces weathering is too dark. Just my opinion. Chris Quote
ArchieNov Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Possible. He keeps telling me it looks much lighter in person. Well I will find out tomorrow once I get it. Quote
Xigfrid Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 That looks awesome You found a nice custom maker! Quote
Bolt Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Looks really good. Maybe a tad dark on the lighter areas but that is really personal preference and how much action that bird has seen Quote

ArchieNov Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Finally got it yesterday. Here are some additional pictures in natural lighting. Stickers haven't been applied yet, but will probably have that done next week. Quote
505thAirborne Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Looks amazing Archie, guess you can save your money on the Arcadia PF version now. Quote

nightmareB4macross Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 ArchiNov, So the color was correct all along. It just needed to be properly weathered to achieve what we always saw in the anime. Could you get a shot of the VF-0D and the SV-51y together. Congrats to you and your customizer. Job well done! Quote
chyll2 Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 @ArchieNov Great commission work. It is fun to see the the 0D turns out in the correct color once weathering is applied. Quote
arrow Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Archienov- Awesome paint scheme. Just wondering, if you are having it commissioned already, why not just have the paint scheme changed as well? Quote

Well, I can't really say for sure. All I know is, he really tried to match the color with how it looked like in the anime. I don't know exactly how he did it. But all I can tell for sure is his work looks closer to the color in the anime than the upcoming premium finish version does. I had him do a little more retouching to the SV-51 to even out the scratch marks. On 11/18/2019 at 12:38 PM, arrow said: Archienov- Awesome paint scheme. technoblue Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Archienov- Your VF-0D is spot on to me. Ssimply amazing. From what I remember, the quality of work is right up there with the custom weathered 0D that @wm cheng completed all those years ago when the 0D was first released. Bravo to you and your local commission contact. It's a very smart look and unique. Not having to pay Arcadia's PF tax is a sweet bonus too. Ah, I found the link! Here's the result of wm cheng's 0D weathering project in case people need a refresh or just want to compare the two projects out of curiosity. Quote
Mommar Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Oh-ish. NY is asking for payment for the VF-0D by December 2nd. I guess no two weeks prior like it's always been? Quote
easnoddy Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Yeah, I was surprised by the NY payment request also. I guess ive always paid up front for their preorders. Quote

Mac Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 The release date is at the end of December 2019. Did they speed up the release date? I swear it was releasing around first quarter of 2020. Quote
jrhudson311 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I was also surprised by the payment request from NY. Quote
Mommar Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 (edited) Yeah, the website still says December 31. NY used to send out the payment requests two weeks in advance. I'm surprised they want the money a full month early. That's a huge hurt for Christmas. I sent them a message asking why they want payment so far in advance this time.
