DestroidsRage Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Hokuto No Ken takes place sometime after 199X, its a post apocalptic kind of setting. Theres hardly any vehicles except some cars and lots of motorcycles and stuff. In one episode, the leader of an enemy army brings the last tank on earth against Kenchiro. The evil guy says he scoured the earth and found it, the last tank. And it does look pretty familiar. It reminds me of a T-26... But Im not sure... Is this a real tank? or totally made up? Cause it looks real to me. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971711.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971739.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971762.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971822.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971863.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971901.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071971934.jpg Naturally, Ken' busts it up and destroys it. Cause he can do that. Cause he's awesome. But yah. -BEN-MAN- Quote
vf1_soulja Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Of course that tank is made up, it's a cartoon It sure aint based on a real tank. Totally made up by the animators. Quote
DestroidsRage Posted December 21, 2003 Author Posted December 21, 2003 Im not so sure about that. Most of the vehicles in Hokuto No Ken that look real, are real. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071976286.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071976323.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071976356.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1071976383.jpg -BEN-MAN- Quote
gnollman Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 I dunno... that offset turret is throwing me off. I have no idea.... And ugh... Fist of the North Star.... just... ugh. Quote
ewilen Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Definitely not a T-26. Turret is offset in the wrong direction, for starters. Image courtesy of www.onwar.com. This might be a good place to hunt through: http://www.onwar.com/tanks/index.htm Quote
nekkibasara1213 Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 (edited) The first set looks like pics of a T-34. The second look like the Jagtiger. Edit: Added a pic of the Jagtiger Edited December 21, 2003 by nekkibasara1213 Quote
muswp1 Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Ok, that second tank is definately a Jagdtiger. The first one might be a either a T-34 or a PzKw III (not sure about the spelling) from WW2. Quote
gnollman Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Found it! Look here. It's a Japanese Chi-ha tank... Quote
DestroidsRage Posted December 21, 2003 Author Posted December 21, 2003 (edited) I posted the second round of pics just to show that most vehicles in Hokuto No Ken are real life vehicles. The Jagdtiger, the buzz bomb on the cieling, the Railroad Gun, etc. After thoroughly looking through every single tank design in my tank book.. I believe it to be some form of the Shinhoto Chi-Ha. Think of the characteristics similar to both. 1. Turret set to the starboard side of the vehicle. 2. Drivers position on starboard side, machine gun to the port side of him. 3. Auxilary machine gun mounted in back of turret. 4. Unique shape of the base of the barrel. It has to be a Shinhoto Chi-Ha. I betcha the reason it doesnt look quite like one is because the animators were drawing it from memory. Edit: Or the Type I Chi-He. The Shinhoto Chi-Ha used the same turret as it, and its pretty damn similar overall. The general way the gun is set up, and the way its set into the plate on the turret is umistakebly Shinhoto Chi-Ha or Chi-He. http://village.infoweb.ne.jp/~fwge2272/Chihe1.html http://village.infoweb.ne.jp/~fwge2272/Chihe2.html Feel welcome to argue me on that point ^__^ -BEN-MAN- Edited December 21, 2003 by DestroidsRage Quote
Noyhauser Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 (edited) Probably but from the straight on photo the turrent looks reminicsent to a KV-1 or 2 (which had a reverse machine gun on it as well.) Edited December 21, 2003 by Noyhauser Quote
Lynx7725 Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Definitely not a T-34 -- it doesn't even remotely looks like one. Possibly an early WWII type if it's Soviet, or as pointed out a Japanese tanks. I lean more towards an early Soviet tank because Japanese tanks in WWII tends to be rather small, unlike the screenshots. Also, the driver arrangement and hull MG reminds me strongly of a Soviet Tank. Possibly a T24, or a T37A. Both seems to be a bit small for the tank in question though. Quote
DestroidsRage Posted December 21, 2003 Author Posted December 21, 2003 (edited) I think its a dramatised Shinhoto Chi-Ha, or a Chi-He, with animation mistakes, LoL. Theres too many similarities between em. Edit: Gnollman, sorry didnt see your post till now for some reason. The Chi-Ha got me thinking, but the entire turret and gun is different. Then I saw the Shinhoto Chi-Ha and the Chi-He. If its any tank its one of those. Not the original Chi-Ha. But you were close (And I still could be wrong..). -BEN-MAN- Edited December 21, 2003 by DestroidsRage Quote
Phyrox Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 (edited) Certainly it is supposed to be a variation of a late 30s-WWII Japanese tank. I'm not to well versed in the Japanese tank varients however... edit - Opps, guess I should read what everybody else posted before I reply next time. Looks like you're on the right track... KingNor Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Of course that tank is made up, it's a cartoon It sure aint based on a real tank. Totally made up by the animators. oh yeah, nothing in a cartoon could possibly be based on a real object, after all, cartoons all have anvils falling on people and eyeballs pop out of the heads when they get supprised. as for the tank, i thought it looked something like a tiger tank in a few pictures but for the most part its probably just made up.
