Actually the angelbirds are based on the USAF F-16 thunderbirds.

Also the notion that in battroid the scheme resembles a japanese schoolgirl uniform.

Actually.. think about the name. They just mashed up Blue Angels and Thunderbirds.

As far as demonstration teams, I think they were said to have a lot more planes than either group (10+ I thought?), so really, it's more like a mashup of many flight demo teams from everywhere, just using the VF-1, and the UN Spacy.

Shoot, that first pic of the Swifts may as BE VF-25 Angle Birds. I can hardly tell the difference!
