I've watched the subbed series up to about half way. At first I did not think I would like it, but it was the often ZANY interaction between Kyao, Amu and Leccee that made me keep watching. Also the maniacal Gavlet character is lol funny.

The series does seem ancient, but the Robot Spirits line seems to be doing quite well and is up to its 8th release in the line. With the Heavy Metal G-Roon about to come out.

The Bandai SPEC L-Gaim Mark I is a far superior piece, but I guess that line was too expensive to try to keep alive - so we got the 'much-cheaper-to-make' RS instead.

The show has a really infuriating ending that makes it not worth the effort. The GI Joe levels of character survival don't help either.

I have a few art books. I love the designs but have never seen the show and heard it starts ok and then turns to turd by the end.

I DO highly recommend the SPEC Mark I though - it can be had at pretty good prices now:

Its a shame the SPEC line didn't live - "Then again - who does?!" ...

The SPEC Mark I gets top shelf in my display, where as my 3 Robot Spirits figs are relegated to the closet.

That tells you the difference in quality and materials between the lines...

L-Gaim is to Five Star Stories as The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus was to The Wizard Of Oz.

I've only glimpsed at L-Gaim here and there since FSS was really more my thing, but those SPEC figures look excellent!

I really wish it did not transform. The mechanisms to do so compromise the leg strength and the whole figure feels a little loose and floppy - however it is an excellent sculpt and the extras make it a fun piece.

Since the Robot Spirits are less expensive than the SPECs, I was not overly scared to panel line and have fun with them, which is a great feature of the Robot Spirits. Cheap(er) figs you can line and damage up if you want.

Just finished episode 30.

My biggest gripe is the obvious trotting out of new Heavy Metals to announce the next toy. I found this so bad in Zeta Gundam that I stopped watching that series.

Most of the HM designs are cool (some are atrocious) - but I MUCH prefer the more realistic mass production of Valks, or Ingrams and Scopedogs.

Dunbine has the excuse that each one is custom made from living parts in a mediaeval world, but with L-Gaim it just comes off as random.

Another gripe is that the combat scenes are poorly done, and the Mark II is too complex for old cel animation and looks jumbled and awkward.

But Gavlet and the crazy characters are keeping me going . . .

The first half of this series was kind of boring with Gavalete being the only good character most of the time. Once Anon Stack appeared though, dang did it improve! The OVAs would be recommended the same way people recommend the Gundam compilation movies.

Do you mean the Amon Duule "Stack"? It only appeared for one episode before they turned it into the Mark II correct?

Bandai did make a figure of it but I think I will pass. Feels like a mold-milk . . .

But I DO have the Robot Spirits Heavy Metal Bat-Shu. It was a Tamashii Exclusive release so it can be a bit pricey, but BBTS just lowered their price and have some in stock:

We should celebrate how far we come from the old HCM releases.

I never had any HCMs, but its easy to see the massive advancements in designs and materials.

I'm not a fan of the Auge, but they've made it look very cool here.

Interested to see how they managed the joints in the shoulder cannons...

Pretty cool release.

• Sculpt is great, better than the line art even, which is consistent with this line

• 'Posability' and working calf pistons are awesome

• Purple Buster Launcher? What's up with that? Needs to be color coordinated

• NEEDS PANEL LINING! Especially in large blue leg areas, working on it now . . .

They look gorgeous and all. But I don't think I can keep up with these upcoming releases. I already have them in Robot Damashii line. But it's L-Gaim. I might consider only him. And the Mk II just in case they make it.

That looks like they took the Mk-II from the R3 plamo line a couple of years back and made it a HMR.

Also I wish Bandai would reissue the Mk-I, that went completely by me.

Same here. I actually skipped the HMR L-Gaim initially since I already have the Robot Damashii versions and decided on not to get another line. But when they showed a prototype display of Mk II during one of the previous Tamashii event, I told myself I should have that and the Mk I. So I found a good copy over Mandarake. Can't believe how big the Mk I is. I'm pretty sure the Mk II is going to be gorgeous too. Can't wait.

The HMR Bat-shu is pretty nice too, just wished it came with the spear just like his RD counterpart

I hope that the Mk-ii transformation to its prowler mode is solid, though the prowler mode is a pretty meh alt-mode
