derex3592 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 All parts de-greased and washed with Dawn dish washing soap. ....Pinky Space Crabs, Cat's Eyes and baby back ribs. It's what's for dinner! Quote
cool8or Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Picked this up today to soak all my resin parts in. Hopefully this will prevent paint not adhering to the parts on down the road. Thank you for the picture, I have an engine cleaner so I'll try it too. Quote
Jasonc Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Still waiting on mine. Hopefully Monday, but it's strange mine hasn't shown up yet. Quote
Squigglysquid Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 All parts de-greased and washed with Dawn dish washing soap. ....Pinky Space Crabs, Cat's Eyes and baby back ribs. It's what's for dinner! There was a moment of panic when I saw the pan full of reddish meat-looking substance and thought there were model parts in there somewhere. O_o If so, you're doing it wrong... =P Oh, ribs? Whew. I stand corrected; you're doing it RIGHT! Quote
derex3592 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 LOL! I only soaked the parts for like 10 minutes in that degreaser,....I wonder if I should have waited longer or like overnight???? Thoughts?? Quote
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) i think you need to bake it and then eat it. at least the stuff on the left. Yum!! Edited January 27, 2014 by davidwhangchoi Quote
derex3592 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I smoked it on the grill for 6 hrs, then ate it. LOL. Quote
electric indigo Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 LOL! I only soaked the parts for like 10 minutes in that degreaser,....I wonder if I should have waited longer or like overnight???? Thoughts?? IMO the best time to thoroughly clean the parts is right before painting, i.e. after you removed all the pouring stubs and seam lines, and have put a lot of finger grease all over them again. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 That's a good point. Might do it again before painting. Quote
dkev Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Hello Captain I had to send you a PM, I'm missing two (2) parts !!! Dkev Quote
captain america Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 LOL! I only soaked the parts for like 10 minutes in that degreaser,....I wonder if I should have waited longer or like overnight???? Thoughts?? Washing parts in dishsoap & water right before painting is all that's really necessary, I use a paint-friendly mold release. I'd be reticent to use any kind of harsh solvent on the resin for fear of damaging the surface. dkev: message received and I'll send you the missing parts, no sweat! Resin ordered, and I'll be contacting the members interested in more kits via PM. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 thanks for the advice Cap. Glad I didn't leave it longer then. Just didn't want a redo of my Oberth kit experience! All appears to be well and i am almost finished cutting pour stubs and sanding on one of them. Quote
mechaninac Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Booyah! My home's just been invaded by a tutti-fruitti colored crustacean from outer space... well, Canada at any rate... Quote
DarkArchon3000 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Received mine today. Captain America, you’re my HERO! Thank you for making this kit into reality. To think this almost didn’t happen. Please know you have my support for any future Mospeada kits. These are going to get center stage in my display case. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I'm a bit confused by part #15. As in how much I'm supposed to whittle it down in order to make it fit on the back??? of the leg??? Or do i need to cut out the back of the leg and replace it with that part? HELP! Quote
coronadlux Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Just got mine today. received it a few days ago, but couldn't go get it til today. Thanks John. Quote
Phyrox Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I'm a bit confused by part #15. As in how much I'm supposed to whittle it down in order to make it fit on the back??? of the leg??? Or do i need to cut out the back of the leg and replace it with that part? HELP! Just looking at the instructions it looks like it goes on the bottom of the "feet" between the front and rear talon parts. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Ahh! U are correct sir! I was looking at the picture all wrong! Thanks! Quote
atoyer Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Love this kit! Thank you Captain. The cannon alignment is proving to be a challenge for my meager skills but a good learning experience. It's going to look good next to my Eager. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The canon alignment is.....yeeees.....proving tricky indeed!! Quote
captain america Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 The canon alignment is.....yeeees.....proving tricky indeed!! Take your time with it, you're better off Dremeling a very small amount of material at any one time than removing too much and damaging the part. Once you get the parts oriented to your liking, you can set the pegs in place with 5 minute epoxy. 2 kits left up for grabs, all the others are now spoken for. Quote
derex3592 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Here are some in progress on the workbench pictures of space crab number one. This was my first experience pinning two parts together as the captain suggests... but it came out good. All the time big brother is watching over the build..... Quote
captain america Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 I see that some people are really eager builders! looking very good indeed. ...Aaaaand all Pinky Space Crabs sold! Disappeared like spit on a hot griddle! Quote
CoryHolmes Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Soooooooo.... which Invid mecha is up next??? Quote
Hyperion728 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I was waiting to post this to avoid and perceived c-blocking but I'm selling one of my two Crabs.I got two just to get to project going from the first batch and now that there can be no more from The Man (I hope, or I'm going to look like an *******), it's time. It'll be up in the sale thread in the appropriate section. Thanks. Quote
cool8or Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I'd love to see more inbits from John, but my top 1 in my wish list is the N-Ger!! Quote
derex3592 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Weeeell....today's canon mounting project didn't go as well as I'd hoped...I won't bore you all with the details, but this step IS NOT EASY. My cannons won't be straight on this one..oh well...not like they were always perfect in the show! Hopefully primer tomorrow weather permitting. Quote
