cool8or Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 As you know, the second volume of "Macross Mechanics"book is avalilable. And you know too that I'm a true fan of Macross Models and related stuff. But, I'm not totally convinced about this book. You see, I already have the first volume, dedicated to Macross Frontier. I saw the preview with the VF-25 destroyed and I bought it without thinking twice. But one received, I felt a little disappointed because it only contains standards buildups of Bandai models. And, I have to say it, some models are very mediocres, mainly because the horrible quality of Bandai decals. Anyway, about this new book, as preview I only see pages with Bandai models, so I'm afraid that this is a book just as the first, plenty of mediocre kits and mediocre buildups. Compared with the "Modelling Manual Master File", is very disappointing. Because of that, I want to ask you if somebody have seen this book, and if so, please comment about its content. http://www.hlj.com/product/HBJ60680/Sci# Quote
Jefuemon Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I'll be taking a trip into town either tomorrow, or Monday after work. I'll pop into Kinokuniya and see if it's on the shelf. Quote
Jefuemon Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Didn't get a chance to see it, but I asked an on-line friend about it: "Good as a textbook of building VF-1 kits released in last decade (Hasegawa, Wave and Bandai) but no new-to-see paintings / markings and no life-like VFX photos as those in 'MF VF Modeling Manual'." sketchley Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 As a completionist, I think I'll be picking this one up, too. Though, this month, we're loaded with Macross pura-mo books/mooks/magazines. - Macross Mechanics 30th (Hasegawa, Wave, Bandai VF-1) - Double R Mechanics Vol. 3 (Bandai, Wave, Arii, Imai, etc. VF-1): http://www.amazon.co.jp/MODEL-%E3%83%80%E3%83%96%E3%83%AB%E3%82%A2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB-%E3%83%A1%E3%82%AB%E3%83%8B%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9-2013%E5%B9%B4-10%E6%9C%88%E5%8F%B7/dp/B00F2L45LM/ref=sr_1_19?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1381138871&sr=1-19&keywords=%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9 - Model Graphix 2013.11 (Bandai vs Hasegawa VF-1, Armoured Factory build): http://www.amazon.co.jp/Model-Graphix-%E3%83%A2%E3%83%87%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B0%E3%83%A9%E3%83%95%E3%82%A3%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9-2013%E5%B9%B4-11%E6%9C%88%E5%8F%B7/dp/B00EYKR5LY/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1381139021&sr=1-2&keywords=model+graphix Quite a month! ahiachris Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) I'd already got the Model Graphix. I'll be picking up my copy on wednesday. But I'm not sure whether it's the Macross Mechanics 30th or the Double R Mechanics Vol. 3. Edited October 7, 2013 by ahiachris Quote

Apart from VF-1's, are there any other VF's on those books? Quote
sketchley Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Right now I only have the Double R Mook. In it there's only the VF-1. Though, in the Yamato section, they have 4 fighters (well, the original and 2199 ver. of the Cosmo Tiger), and a bunch of spaceships (Andromeda, Space Battleship/Destroyer/Cruiser/Carrier etc.). vf1x Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I bought this book last weekend at Kino in Little Tokyo, LA. (They're selling it for $39.30.) It's about 60% DYRL VF-1's, 25% Destroids, bad guys (Glaug, Regult, Nousjadeul), and 15% Macross Zero Valks, it shows a GBP-1J too. It has a few dioramas and details of the featured builds. All in all, I think its worth getting if you're an old-school Macross guy like myself. Here are a few pics, pardon the glare: Quote
cool8or Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Thanks for the pictures vf1x. My impression is what you say: it worth the price, so I'll buy it. Thanks again! Quote
Major Focker Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 it's already in my HLJ private warehouse and was considering returning it, but those diorama pics changed my mind. Quote
vf1x Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 no problem cool8or.major focker, i decided to buy it because of the dioramas, but i wish they had more. there's about 4 pages only, but they're pretty cool. Quote

Any Macross Frontier or plus in there as well? Quote
cool8or Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 The first issue was totally dedicated to Frontier. Quote
Major Focker Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 just got my copy. a couple of notables which might sway the undecided: 1) battlepod cabin interior 2) VF-1S battroid Bodolza assassination pose those who've built Hase battroids or own any VF-1 toys (except maybe Revoltechs) know that you can't do this pose and have all the guns pointing forward. here they made a shoulder modification for a pretty convincing pose. get this book and don't bother with Model Art's RR Mechanics Vol.3, which was very boring (basic builds) and pretty much just duplicates Macross Mechanics 30th but in bland fashion. RR Mechanics does also feature Space Battleship Yamato and her escort ships, but again, the builds were just uninspiring. Dengeki's and Hobby Japan's builds just blows theirs out of the water. really disappointed in Model Art. maybe they're just too focused on military subjects to do any justice to the sci-fi genre. spanner Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Is there a Volume.3!?!? haven't seen it anywhere! Quote
