electric indigo Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I finally managed to get some good shots of my 1/72 Hasegawa VF-11, dressed in a PAK FA inspired camo scheme. I smoothed out some of the irritating details on the nose, closed the opening for the head cannon and replaced the pilot, everything else is OOB. Good Hasegawa kit of a great design. The details on the hull feel a little under-inspired compared to what they put on the wings, but I'm glad they didn't have another rivet-fest like on their VF-1s. Quote
pyro-manic Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Stunning! Those Flanker schemes look good on anything, but they really suit the '11's lines. Top-notch stuff. Quote
Ignacio Ocamica Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 It really is gorgeous!!!! Very nice clean build. Quote
PetarB Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Very nice paintjob there. Is that all Tamiya Acrylics? What did you think of the model itself? Easy assembly? I have a couple of these in boxes, awaiting my attention... Quote
electric indigo Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Thank you all. Petar, the kit is not overly complicated, but also not a shake-n-bake model. Some putty was required at the closed landing gear doors, which was to be expected, and on the halves of the engine tunnels/legs. The lower legs have little contact area to glue. I encourage you to try all kinds of color/camo schemes on this plane (Model Grafix turned the two-seater into a Vietnam-era bomber), and yes, it's painted entirely with custom mixed Tamiya acrylics. One more shot: Quote
Gabe Q Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 That refueling shot! It's awesome! I love that clean build. Quote
derex3592 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Woooooooow! Great job once again! Quote
505thAirborne Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Amazing, simply amazing!! The refueling shot looks incredibly realistic. Quote
Reïvaj Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Superb job! Congratulations electric indigo! Quote

electric indigo Posted September 26, 2013 Author Posted September 26, 2013 No no no - that's Sukhoi's latest project. American fighters DO NOT have canards... Quote
ce25254 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I really enjoy these composites of models with real-world photography. Nice lighting! Quote

Dobber Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Awesome! Would look great with my digi-camo 11 too. Chris Quote
wm cheng Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Wow!!! Simply perfect electric indigo - such subtlety in the weathering... I love it, how did you do it on the solid camo panels? It seems like a lightening of towards the centre of each panel. Very realistic for a "new" aircraft and awesome photoshop job, you nailed the light/shadows down! Beauty, you should be proud. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Dobber Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Agreed, also really like how the smooth back looks. Simply fantastick work Electric Indigo. Chris Quote
electric indigo Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Thanks for the appreciation, guys. wm cheng, I did indeed spray a lighter color in the center of each panel, in a slightly cloudy application. It is very subtle on the model and I'm surprised it even showed up in the photos. Panel lines were accentuated with dark grey gouache. I chose colors with a reduced contrast compared to the original russian scheme so the beautiful lines of the aircraft didn't get disrupted too much. Quote
Berttt Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Very cool job dude. Inspiring work, that challenges other s to push the boundaries. Well done. Quote

caslon Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Splendid!!!! I love your custom paint so much Quote
Mr March Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I just HAVE to build some custom line art of this design. Phenomenal work! Quote
Mommar Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I'd love a transforming version of that but it'll never happen. Quote
cool8or Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Extraordinary. And the pictures are fantastic! Inspiring. Quote
MechTech Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Awesome job and composite work! I should make it my wallpaper at work and see how many people ask "which plane is that!?" I think the boom operator would be like, "Uh, where's the receptacle?" - MT Quote
grapetang Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Beautiful work! That paint scheme and application is amazing, along with that refueling composite! You've got to build an M+ tanker to go with it! Quote
Capt Hungry Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Very nice work. I finally got one myself.....not sure when I'll get round to building it. Quote
electric indigo Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 @all - thanks again The effect looks fantastic, and I can only imagine how it must look better in real life. What do you mean "slightly cloudy application"? The base color is lightened up and thinned, then I spray very close to the surface in an irregular pattern. You can see the effect better in this pic of my Kotobukiya Aaliyah, especially on the legs. Quote
wm cheng Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Wow!!! That is fantastic, it really gives the flatter areas of colour so much life - I must try that someday. Quote
