Scyla Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 That can only mean that the invoice of hlj will soon be in my inbox. That is sweet! Too bad it will stay in the warehouse until the Hikaru VF-1S is released. Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I'm a bit underwhelmed, really wanted Tenjin boxart. Still a much needed improvement from the old Yamato design. Quote
barurutor Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Don't the fixed pose hands look different from the old Yamato ones? Quote
DarrinG Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I would give that box art design a C- Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 It's hard to imagine a good box look, with a model that was never seen without the strike parts! It should be in batt mode holding a beer. Quote
Gakken85 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Looks cheap. Glad I skipped this after I found a Low viz. I actually think it looks worse than the yamato's... it's very ..low grade design. Quote
Mechapilot77 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 i like it better than yamato's but not much. i give it a B. Quote
eriku Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I like my design better. Regardless, all of my boxes end up in storage and unseen so they could ship them in a plain brown box and I wouldn't care. Quote
Mommar Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I don't care for the box, I think the older Yamato boxes looked better. In the end it doesn't matter to me though, I just throw the thing away anyway. Quote
Scyla Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Now having seen a image of the box I think it is ok but I find the boxes of Bandais more pleasing. I don't like the plain font of the text and the contrast between the black and the yellow is too strong. Something about the Bandai boxes just hits the right spot for me. Quote
Falcon18 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Regardless, all of my boxes end up in storage and unseen so they could ship them in a plain brown box and I wouldn't care. This, I agree. Boxes will just be put in storage for me as well. It's what's inside that matters. Quote
Mommar Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Why is the choking hazard stuff all in English though? Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I'm guessing that's specifically for Americans lol, there's a lot of dumb A ones out here. Same reason they slow their (Japanese) cars down for the US markets lol! Quote
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Why is the choking hazard stuff all in English though? it's a middle finger to HG letting them know we're selling these to international customers you tried to block Quote
Reïvaj Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 it's a middle finger to HG letting them know we're selling these to international customers you tried to block  Quote
jenius Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Too bad they didn't keep up with the Tenjin box art. I'll echo the C- sentiment but I'll also echo the sentiment that I take the toy out of the box and that's about the only time I'm really worried about what the box looks like. Quote
jvmacross Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) Box cover should have omitted the pic of the toy...then it would have been classy...but then again, is this the slip sleeve cover?....the box itself probably will be like the 30th VF-1J.....or maybe the line art minus the pic of the toy....that would be nice...overall I like it better than yamato's photoshop'd boxes... Either way...keeping the pre-order due to this not being "off-white"...as it should be based on the animation and every color pic I have ever seen of it....never understood why Yamato went "off-white" for their DYRL VF-1's... looking at it again...the design is a combination of the 1/48 weathered VF-1S box and the built "no-paint" 1/60 VF-1S...2 of my favorite box designs...good work Arcadia....loose the toy pic for the Hikaru box!..... Edited November 22, 2013 by jvmacross Quote
Reïvaj Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I don't get why some of you guys expected the Tenjin box art. It had never been announced nor even hinted. Yeah, the 30th anniversario one had it but that was just an exception and the cost was shared with Hasegawa. Quote
Sandman Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 At the end of the day i don't really care about the box art but I'm amused at how bad they are (or have been). I'm pretty sure i can whip up something better in Photoshop and I'm not even that great with Photoshop. It must cost a lot to have in show art on the box. Box art i thought was really good was for the Bandai Hi-Metal stuff. Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 The question is, is that the sleeve or the box. The box might be the same as the 1J and just be white the a nice Logo and product name. Either way, it's nothing to be sad about. Quote
derex3592 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Don't like it. No sir. That is a lame excuse for box art. Hope they do better with the YF-19 Quote
Benbot Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) That's kind of a strange pose. Could be better. But I'm buying it for the figure, not the box which will go into storage to never be seen. Regardless, attention to detail matters, as does presentation. I hope they get better. I don't know why they can't just hire a good freelance designer to come up with something that really shines. Edited November 22, 2013 by Benbot Quote
SuperSenpai Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I think that design looks good as a promotional poster or print ad... but not so good as packaging. Quote
jvmacross Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) + = Arcadia should have left out the toy and added the skull & crossbones in a yellow hue like they are using for the line art on this new box....then they could have just repeated for Hikaru, Max and Kakizaki....still better than the average Yamato box.... Hopefully they leave out the "toy" pic on the YF-19 box, but keep everything else as their new "standard box graphics"....we will all know what the toys look like by release time....no need for it to be plastered on the box.... Edited November 22, 2013 by jvmacross Quote
valky-001 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 That's a worst age photo shot of the toy for its label box, just add some red dots and it'll look like its getting shot. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 That makes little sense unless you find all VF-1's to look plain because "the first" version actually has all of the same colors in the same places as DYRL plus extra. It's more of a "balance" thing----having a very brightly colored chest, then everything else quite minimal---makes it look like they "forgot" to color the limbs. Whereas in DYRL, it's all fairly evenly spread out. At least, that's how I see it. Quote
Gakken85 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 (edited) I understand people who say they don't look at the box, so they don't care... but I feel like if you're paying 150 bucks for something like this, they should be able to do some decent graphic design. I mean, if it were just a all gray box would you care? With all the art and information out there for Macross, you think they could come up with something better than this half-assed photo of the toy and nauseating panic yellow. At the end of the day it makes it a much less attractive collectible. Edited November 23, 2013 by Gakken85 Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 It's kinda stupid, I mean any entry level photoshop person could make something better than that. There's no Animators they could pay for a decent art cover? Quote
Kurisama Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Skullmilitia, clearly - you don't know many 'entry level' Photoshopists... I deal with a lot of them, and they'd struggle to do this sort of thing. I'm sure the could also pay decent animators to do box art - more than decent, the best of the best animators! But then again animators, you know... Animate. So their design skills as well as Photoshop skills may be next to nil. Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Hrm, really? I mean if that's a decent media art for product, then I've been down selling my PS abilities lol. Either way, I would have done something better for free if it meant getting a decent box. Even a local Artist could sketch a Valk that would do a better job than that. It just looks cheap. It looks like 4 images, some font and Glow. That's a 10 minute job in PS. Hell someone tell MrK to open up submissions! Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Well, not that I like the boxart and the whole photoshop thing, but the more complicated the art the more expensive it becomes to mass print. Still, I plain gloss white box with a plain Tenjin sketch with yellow Fokker accent would be a ton better than that. Quote
Kurisama Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I didn't mean to offend! But yeah, it could have a much better box, but I'm pretty meh about boxes - until it has amazing art - if that makes sense... Ha. But for the price I pay for toys, I consider the cost as for the toy only. Beautiful box art is a bonus. Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Honestly if they had just copied the 1J's un-sleeved box, with just nice lettering and product photos on the sides. I'd be more happy. Quote
