areaseven Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Time to get back to the news on this sequel: The sequel takes place 20 years after the first film (presuming it took place in 1996). Roland Emmerich explained that because of the first alien invasion, the film's timeline will be more technologically advanced than the present day. Emmerich and Dean Devlin have mapped this project as a two-film arc tentatively titled Independence Day Forever Parts I-II, with James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, White House Down) in charge of the screenplay. Will Smith will not be in the sequel(s), as he is - according to Emmerich - "too expensive"; Smith also hates doing sequels. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman have confirmed their return; Pullman's character, by this time, will no longer be President. The new films will have, of course, new characters. FOX is looking at a release date of July 3, 2015. Independence Day 2 & 3 Plot Details Revealed Will Smith Won't Be in Independence Day 2; Cast Will Be Half New Characters Will Smith: "Too Expensive" Quote

So Men in Black does not count then. I guess he can bend the rules if he gets paid a bus load of money for doing it and the after film marketing royalties. Quote

TehPW Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 wow. has anyone pointed to the makers how 'unique' and 'completely different' some of the major plot devices they plan have no equal to Robotech? *whistles* Quote

mechaninac Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Wow! 2 1/2 years since any significant development. This production is moving right along... Quote
TangledThorns Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Hard to believe ID4 is almost twenty years old. Ugh! Quote
areaseven Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Jeff Goldblum and Liam Hemsworth Will Fight Aliens in Independence Day 2 Quote
reddsun1 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Yes, we heard you the first time. Some sentiments are worth repeating. Loudly... that movie was a colossally sh*t-tastic disappointment. Not even Vivica's bum in a thong could redeem that one. Quote
EXO Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 It's funny how in the comments section everyone just wants the same actors to return, even ones that died. Which again shows that people don't really want a continuation of the story, as crappy as it was... but they really want the same movie but with older versions of the actors or characters related to the ones in the original. I mean, why do we need Liam Hemsworth to be related to the president from 15 years ago? Are the aliens that vindictive that they go after the leader of the USA when they return? In turn the planet should be angry at the kids of the leaders of the aliens that attacked originally. Lol. As much as people think they're being saturated with franchises now, at least the new ones do their trilogies four at a time ... while the characters look the part. Quote

EXO Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 There's a difference between commenting one's opinion once or twice and continuously trolling a thread. I usually give myself three comments and leave the thread unless I'm surprised that the movie turned out to be good. Quote
Golden Arms Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 With Reddsun on this one. Why this movie is being made defies common sense. Since the first ID4, we have more than our fair share of the world is ending destruction porn on the big screen. And, Hollywood wonders why every year their profits are down. They keep recycling disposable garbage. Quote
Hikuro Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Did just listen to the numbers in the weekend box office. When you got a movie like SPY outdoing San Andreas and entourage like its no ones business and SPY didn't even look good to me. It's like mike and Molly without mike. I don't even remember what came out last summer and Hollywood is STILL crying over that one. Quote
Kelsain Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 More disaster porn, from the originators of modern disaster porn! Watch as LA, New York & Wash.... oh, crap, we did those already... Watch as Chicago, Paris & London... Hmm, those were destroyed off screen in the first one, too... Watch as 3rd tier population centers, such as Denver, Toronto & Oklahoma City are demolished by badder aliens with bigger ships and lazers! More flag waving than the first ID4, or even Transformers4! Quote

TangledThorns Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 The title is awful but it looks like they are going all out on SFX and action, especially since they're saving money on not having to pay Will Smith to rejoin the cast I'm glad they have Jeff Goldblum and others back though. Quote
frothymug Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I don't see how it looks like a VF-19. Tail fins are canted inward, wings are swept back, the slots that look like air intakes are tiny, and the list goes on... The cockpit opens the same way, but... Quote
