Swooshiex Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 What are the differences between the SDF-1 tv and dyrl? It seems like the tv has the Promoetheus on the left arm and an ARMD on the right arm? Is that correct? Thank you! Quote
MacrossJunkie Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Yeah, pretty much every square inch of it is different. There's only a similarity in general shape. Quote
Swooshiex Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 hmm, the right arm of the tv doesn't look like an ARMD. Is it a second Prometheus? Quote
Swooshiex Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 thank you so much jvmacross! you're awesome!!! was the tv armd a standalone ship that travelled apart from the SDF-1? i don't see it on the SDF-1 tv picture. Quote
MacrossJunkie Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The right arm on the TV version was a submersible assault ship called the Daedalus, famous for the Daedalus attack where it would punch into an enemy vessel and unleash hell. The ARMDs (01 and 02) in the tv series were indeed just stand alone and while they did well against the initial Zentradi attack, they were destroyed in that fight. They were intended to dock with the SDF-1 though. Quote
jvmacross Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 NP. Yes, they are a standalone ship. If I am not mistaken, the SDF-1 had intended to dock with 2 ARMD's once it was in space, but those plans did not work out.... However, the series of events as depicted in the movie apparently did not cause the eventual need to "dock" with the Prometheus and Daedelus......(I guess according to the movie...the SDF-1 did not take the Daedelus, Prometheus and a chunk of the Pacific Ocean with it when it folded to Pluto's orbit).... Mommar Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The TV SDF-1 had a different aircraft carrier mounted on each arm. The Daedalus and the Prometheus. The ARMD carrier was a separate space faring capital ship. In DYRL they stuck two ARMD carriers on the SDF-1 instead. That's only one of some pretty large differences between the two. Quote
Swooshiex Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 thank you all!!! it's so much clearer now! Quote
Gakken85 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 You obviously couldn't draw something that complex for a 30+ episode cartoon and make budget. Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 In SDFM, ARMD-1 and ARMD-2 are destroyed in space in the Zentradi attack, they were meant to dock with the SDF-1, when the SDF-1 folded it took the Prometheus and Daedalous with it to the orbit of Pluto, when they're rescuing the survivors they retrofitted the ships to attach to the SDF-1 in place of both ARMD.According to the DYRL PSX game, the SDF-1 already had both ARMD attached to it when it folded. It also shows the Prometheus being destroyed split in half after Skull squadron takes off and you can correlate it with DYRL when Misa and Hikaru are stranded on Earth and find the destroyed Prometheus split in the middle.Supposedly after the events of SDFM where Kaifun destroys part of the SDF-1 and the Daedalous in his final attack, the SDF-1 got repaired and fitted ARMD's in both arms keeping its current look with future Macross series. There's also the inconsistency on how the SDF-1 colors switch places between modes in SDFM. Quote

Mr March Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 There's also the inconsistency on how the SDF-1 colors switch places between modes in SDFM.Oh, I remember this well. It made coloring the ship for my website Very difficult Quote
Deadeye_281 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Aren't the bridge and main radome separated in the Cruiser mode of SDFM? They slide together in Attacker mode as opposed to DYRL where they're permanently fixed together IIRC... Quote
