reddsun1 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) 1:01 - oh, that was noice. I like how Godzilla shrugs off the missles on the bridge, as if to say: "man, fu*k yo' little rockets..." Little thumb of the nose to '98 Zilla, perhaps? Edited May 8, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 0_o did I just see Rodan? Its not Rodan but a new monster, supposedly a 'muto.' From what I read Hollywood only bought the rights to Godzilla and not the other Toho monsters so they had to create new ones. If they are to make a sequel they should buy buy the rights to a few well known Toho monsters. Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) LET THEM FIGHT! ALSO, apparently Fiats disagree with the Big Guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QKpzU2GSVC0 Edited May 8, 2014 by VF-15 Banshee Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Easter egg alert! [i think?] According to imdb cast listing: Akira Takarada, who played Ogata in the original Gojira, makes a cameo appearance in this film. Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 To paraphrase: according to film's effects supervisor Jim Rygiel, Godzilla's fighting style will be based primarily on that of Komodo dragons and bears... http://www.godzilla-movies.com/news/1462 Will be interesting to see if that will give it a more 'realistic' feel; make it look more like a giant monster battling another giant, instead of like just some guy trying to do judo in a big rubber suit, per se... reddsun1 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) First Snickers. Now Fiat. Didn't take 'em long to strap that matress on ol' ['murican] Godzilla's back, now did it? I liked it so much better when you were able/wanted to go out and buy Godzilla stuff for it's own sake; cause you wanted a cool ass figure or toy, etc of Godzilla--and not because he was getting pimped to sell you some unrelated placed-product crap. ed: perhaps I'd better quit while I've only got a toe or 2 in mouth, eh? The big guy probably gets used to peddle all sorts o' stuff, from noodles to backpacks to who knows what else on Toho's turf in Japan? Edited May 8, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote

Mommar Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I'm hoping for some giant monster blood-and-guts. If the descriptions of the fight scenes are true Godzilla gets pretty ripped up himself. Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Don't feel bad, Godzilla. Fiat makes me gag too! Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The reviews are coming. So far it looks awesome! http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/11/godzilla-review Quote

areaseven Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 89% - "With just enough human drama to anchor the sweeping spectacle of giant monsters smashing everything in sight, Gareth Edwards' Godzilla satisfyingly restores the franchise's fire-breathing glory." Metacritic Score: 63 out of 100 Edited May 15, 2014 by areaseven Quote
Mommar Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Reading some of those Metacritic reviews it was going to be impossible to make everyone happy. All of the middle-of-the-road reviews are either complaining there's no character/plot and all it needed was tons of monsters fighting, or that the monsters fighting gets in the way of the plot. reddsun1 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Man. I can't remember the last time I was actually stoked to see a movie at the theaters; but I'm wanting to see this one on the big screen. Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) What were they expecting - Citizen Kane? This is how I felt about the 1998 Godzilla film. Except for Maria Pitillo's performance the acting in it was better than any of the Japanese Godzilla films filmed after the first one. I think the Japanese re-release of Gojira last decade created a population of elitist 'Gojira' poseurs who didn't grow up with Godzilla like many my age or older did. That being said, Godzilla is the main star and I hope 'the less is more' thing in this new film doesn't turn me off. Peter Jackson didn't pull that crap with King Kong thankfully. Peter Jackson's King Kong was also five hours too long. Quote
anime52k8 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 That movie was only about three hours. And it was still 5 hours longer than it should have been. Quote

grss1982 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) Just saw it less than 6 hours ago. It was okay I guess. EDIT: Maybe I just had high expectations. I wont spoil it for everyone. I have not seen Cloverleaf though only the trailers, but, from what I saw of them the earlier speculations made by some of Godzilla being Cloverfield-like seems to be partially true. Edit: I mean Colverfield not Cloverleaf. My Bad. Edited May 15, 2014 by grss1982 Quote

renegadeleader1 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I got my ticket for Godzilla tonight at 7. I also picked up the ultimate Gamera box sets while I was out. Quote

renegadeleader1 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 well I just got back and overall it was pretty good. There were some bumps here and there, but miles ahead of Zilla 98, and on par with many of the Toho films. I'll go into detail and do spoilers later. Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Just saw it tonight. The acting was OK, still far better than the 1998 version and most Toho films. There was plenty of Godzilla action to see and I hope to see more in a sequel soon! It did not disappoint this old time Godzilla fan!! I recommend seeing it on the largest screen you can find. Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 The only words I have for this movie are: "I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds." Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 While watching the movie I realized Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen who play husband and wife are also playing the twins in the Avengers 2. Heh. Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Today's the day! *RRRRAAAAAAWWWWWWGGGGH!* I hope he stomps a mudhole in the x-men's a$$es at the box office... (never really liked the x-movies save for First Class, and it was kinda *meh*) Quote
