Retracting Head Ter Ter Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Probably cause Toho is distributing it and some legal mumbo or waiting for their Japan school holidays or something. China might be even later... not announced yet. Don't want 1 dollar 'human head editions' floating round Shenzhen markets on May 18th you know.... Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 From the wiki article: "For Empire magazine's April 2014 issue, the magazine cover featured a picture of Godzilla, revealing the monster's design. According to director Edwards, elements of the faces of bears, dogs and eagles were incorporated into the design of Godzilla's face." That explains a lot. I remember thinking at seeing the first trailers: from many angles, his face reminds me of nothing so much as a shaved, scaly grizzly bear. Sooo: you used mammals. and birds. to design your dinosaur. -,- And further down: "At WonderCon 2013, Guillermo del Toro expressed enthusiasm for a potential crossover between Godzilla and del Toro's Pacific Rim--another Legendary Pictures kaiju film--but stressed that no such plans are in place." Okay. Somebody needs to tell del Toro: go sit down somewhere and shut the fu*k up. Quote

reddsun1 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Hehe, I didn't want to see his [del Toro's] movie, period. I'm still on the fence with this scaly-shaved-small-footed-bear-with-a-tail iteration with Godzilla; I sure wouldn't want to go muddling that with other properties I already know I don't like. Heck, I'm trying to give ol' Stumpy the benefit of the doubt, before I sharpen my pitchfork and oil my torch... Edited May 5, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote

reddsun1 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Believe it or not, this is the first movie in a very long time that I actually want and look forward to going to a theater to pay and see... But yes; I'm not letting go of the small feet thing. You see where I'm going with this, eh? eh? That'd actually make a cool printed T; with a pic of the new Godzilla and a caption: "I saw Stumpy, 2014" Quote
hutch Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I think "cool" should be in quotes in that sentence, if we're all being truthful. Quote
Mommar Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I think the smaller feet don't look as good esthetically. But given all of the "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" small feet comments I'd almost assume your problem is Godzilla isn't sufficiently packing for you guys. Quote

DuelGundam2099 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 WHY THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE GOING NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK BECAUSE OF FEET? Do you mean TOES? HANDS? TEETH? BRAIN? HEART? I'd say knees or muscles, but that is redundant. Quote

Kanedas Bike Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 My wife is tall and has little feet. She falls down a lot. A LOT. LOL Seriously, Godzilla could have wheels or two little nubs down there for all I care as long as the movie is good. I'm more surprised no one is complaining about Kick-Ass as one of the main military/soldier protagonists. Instead it's all about how Godzilla doesn't have an hour-glass figure and well proportioned extremities. -b. Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Bloody Hell. Well. This certainly took on an unintended and unexpected tone, with the feet thing. Let me be the first to attribute it to: a) a fair bit of naivety on my part, and b) having grossly underestimated the tendancies for crude debauchery with this bunch here. I'm actually a little surprised and embarassed that I didn't forsee this slewing so wildly astray. It was actually an allusion to... I suppose this calls for a revision. I'd better go back and edit my references to say "stumpy feet," eh? Meh. I'm sure it's already too late for that... Edited May 6, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Wait...is this the tiny Darth Vader hands thing all over again? -b. Called it almost 2 months ago. -b. Quote

You shouldn't be surprised given this is the forum where people cast movies using pornstars, question wether Megan Fox has enough acting for brazzers.com, or go out of their way to make a note of wether or not an actress in a sentai show is a former JAV idol. Mommar Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) I love how he attempts a scientific reason for "because buildings are taller" when it's literally because buildings are taller now and Godzilla would look dwarfed if he were still only fifty meters. Edited May 7, 2014 by Mommar Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Dafuq? Okay. Yet another someone [this Craig McClain, is it?] that needs to be told: go siddown somewhere and shut the fu*k up. What's all this "Cope's Rule" and "sexual display" bullsh*t? Dafuq you been putting besides oxygen in your diving tanks, man? Of course, maybe I'm missing something? Guess that's what I get for skimming, instead of actually reading stuff... Edited May 7, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote
Kelsain Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Yeah, from an evolutionary perspective, Cope's Rule is (at best) a gross oversimplification. It's an out-of-date notion that really has no bearing on modern biology. Also, 60 years is a bit of a brief period to look for macroevolutionary trends. Particularly as the lifespan of Godzilla & family may exceed this period. I'd chalk the size difference up more to individual variation or sexual/class dimorphism. Or Hollywood's version of Cope's Rule: The last movie was big and the rube$ loved it! Therefore this movie has to be BIGGER, so the rube$ will love it moar!!1! Quote
Dangard Ace Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 What's all this "Cope's Rule" and "sexual display" bullsh*t? Dafuq you been putting besides oxygen in your diving tanks, man? Nitrox. It's goooood stuff. Quote
reddsun1 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) ed: Mommar's really much closer to the mark, I'd say. Ishiro Honda & co. wanted their monster to be slightly taller than some of the prominent Tokyo buildings he'd be smashing, hence the scale chosen for his initial appearance in '54. Subsequently, the producers of the more recent installments didn't want the King to seem dwarfed by the skyscrapers of modern Tokyo's skyline, thus necessitating the boost in his dimensions. All that pseudo-scientific fluff is just; well... "okay, McClain. You need to take another hit off your regulator. Or purge your lines. Or something." Edited May 7, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote

peter Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Talking about feet, I remember seeing an SD Godzilla years ago where he stepped on something and he was checking his foot. Hilarious looking figure, but that sort of says that Godzilla's supposed to have some bigger feet no? He stands upright on his hind legs, sort of like T-Rex (except he's a bit lazier and just drags his tail around), so why does he have Brotosaurus feet? Edited May 7, 2014 by peter Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I really like Cloverfield and I don't think we'd see this Godzilla film if it wasn't for Godzilla really. That being said, I'd love to see a Cloverfield sequel! Quote
