sil80jdm Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I usually just get registered SAL because their EMS and FedEx prices are more than I can afford plus I do f mind waiting.. Plus LA customs suck with ems I've had ems packages sit in customs for over a week! So in the long run save your money and go sal if possible.. HLJ and amiami EMS charges are quite affordable however if buying from them Quote
xrentonx Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) Probably not much help on my part but depending on the item, I choose EMS with tracking to get it quicker. My reasoning is the less time it spends in transit, the less chance the shipment is damaged or lost. This really does depend on what item I am purchasing though. If I have to choose the slow boat or cheaper options, I always get the ones that offer some kind of tracking. Edited April 12, 2013 by xrentonx Quote
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 sometimes if you choose ems they send it at SAL speeds @ nippon. not always but it happens. Quote
erikos0311 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 thanks guys,,, I looked on my account orders and Im all over the place.... I guess I was in a rush all 3 times to hurry up and checkout so I would get to place the order, that I placed one order with EMS (express), another one with AIRMAIL, and the last one with Eco-Sal Registered..... ! now that i can think straight, would i be able to switch all my orders shipping to EMS (registered)? or are the pre-orders all locked in and I can not change my shipping options??? Quote
xrentonx Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 You should be able to change shipping. You're likely only locked in to the quoted preorder price of the item. Quote
Gakken85 Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 They just converted all my existing preorders to yen woohoo!!! So they are still doing it, or they aren't? Quote
Loop Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) Current paypal exchange rate is low. PayPal exchange rate:1 USD = 96.9309 JPY Used this link if anyone is interested: https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_convert-currency-generic *Edit* You may have to be logged into your paypal account to see this. anime52k8 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 PayPal's exchange rate always sucks compared to reality. Quote
SaitouSad Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I always go with my cc's exchange rate over paypal Quote
Loop Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Yeah that's why I posted the link. It's crazy how bad the Paypal exchange is. Quote
OzmaLee74 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Well, I emailed NY to change my currency from USD to JPY. They just replied and asked for the order numbers so they can change it. Quote
Kelsain Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I just emailed them too. Only about $12 difference - but hey, it's still $12! Quote
Loop Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) Well, I emailed NY to change my currency from USD to JPY. They just replied and asked for the order numbers so they can change it. So they will do it for all orders? I have a ton of open pre-orders. Some are set to USD only because I have to rush to get my orders in. The site is really buggy and my default currency is randomly set to JPY or USD. How are you guys paying with CC's? Whenever I click the pay via CC it forward me to paypal. Edited April 12, 2013 by Loop Quote
OzmaLee74 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 They asked me for all the order numbers of all of the preorders I want changed. No big deal since all are USD and I have only six. Just give them the ones that are in USD. Quote
erikos0311 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 thats odd!?!?! i emailed NY to change my pre-orders to yen, and now when i went back to the webpage, it wont let me switch from yen to dollars...... so buying form the states, its still cheaper to buy in YEN right?? Quote
xrentonx Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Ummm...yes? I'm all confused now. Hahahah NY really needs to do this one way from now on :/ Quote

I have noticed this can happen if you have stuff in your cart. If you cannot remove items from you cart, try logging out then back in. Quote

I think you pay with a CC using the PayPal system. Basically just paying through PayPal but without logging in, AFAIK. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Yup---it's through Paypal, but not with Paypal. Usually near the bottom the "I don't have an account" option. Also, be sure to click "other conversion options" near the end, or you'll still get the Paypal exchange rate, even not paying with a Paypal account. Quote
Loop Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Thanks guys, I'll try it out next time. I'm guessing once they request payment, I will not be able to have them change it before I pay? Or do I have to do it before they request payment? Quote
kyekye Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 it doesn't seem to matter. I got payment notice for VF-171 and asked them to convert all my pre-orders to yen. They just did it. Quote
mechaninac Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Last couple of times I visited N-Y's webstore all the prices were listed in Yen and I was unnable to switch currency views with their selector pull down menu... the language one still works just fine. Have they disabled the currency choice due to all the recent requests for Yen billing brought on by recent exchange rate trends, or is it just me? Quote
OzmaLee74 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 No they haven't. Log off then log back in. Then try again. I guess it's part of the same glitch which shows items as not available when they actually are. Quote
grymg Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I just emailed NY to change to yen but seeing as I only pay thru paypal I don't think it was a good idea. I may be paying more that what I was locked in at originally. I know my cc's exchange rate is better but they usually charge me a conversion fee at the end of the billing cycle. Quote
Gakken85 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 grymg - the point is to pay when the yen is low, but it could flux up. I had them convert my order over from when I pre-ordered a month ago, and I saved about 2 dollars! haha. Quote
takatoys Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Ok, is it really worth it to convert my pre-order? I have the Frontier VF-17 for US$182 on NY The price when I pre-order it, was JPY17,000, I guess. If I pay with paypal, with its bs currency exchange and comission, how much do I save? Quote

Gakken85 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Ok, thanks. $7 is not much but I won't give those bucks for free. If you're buying 10 toys from them this year that's 70 bucks! haha That's the cost of shipping on 2-3 toys. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 All depends what the exchange rate was when you ordered---for me, the change was about 20 bucks. Quote
