I watched Shining Heresy finally. I really think Votoms was better just as a TV show. Every OVA and sequel (or prequel) either over does the invincible thing or just fails to add anything noteworthy. Some are great Mecha porn at least.

LRS is still the best OVA entry, and actually still better than the TV show, imo.

None of the later "invincibility" or other shenanigans that they later infused with the other OVAs...

The DMZs? They're definitely really nice and the later ones even have articulated hands... I haven't handled my DMZs in forever but I liked 'em a lot.

They keep popping up on mandarake is it just a scaled up 1/48 AG or does it have other features?

Well, yes to both, and more.

Let's put this way:

ActicGears:

-- toys

-- you can abuse it.

-- tiny/small

-- no clicks.

-- no springs on ballistic-punch effect

-- pilots are not articulated (most are not even painted)

-- cockpits are not detailed.

-- relatively alot lot cheaper than the DMZs.

DMZs:

-- collectible.

-- have delicate parts that may easily break (tummy handle on the DMZ-01, especially)

-- nice paint and weathering details.

-- detailed cockpit

-- spring-loaded ballistic punch

-- lots of clicks

-- articulated Micro-Man pilots/figures.

-- can be quite expensive.

That said, DMZ-01 has alot of issues regarding fit and quality stuff since it was the first iteration.  It can be a pain to handle.  It does really live up to the junkyard-dog feature from the tv-show, fwiw.

Subsequent DMZs (starting with dmz-02) are all comparatively better in fit and quality stuff, and more enjoyable to handle than dmz-01.

Fwiw, I think the DMZ-01 is fine as it is despite the issues, but I personally wouldn't get a DMZ-01 for more than 8000y.

I think Jenius has an old written review for the DMZ line: http://anymoon.com/blog/?p=5915

However, I'm not sure if he has an actual yt-review for the various DMZ 'dogs, but he does have the DMZ Red Shoulder Custom Parts yt-video. Those RSC missile-parts require lots of Future polish to keep in place, btw.

Browse YT for other video-reviews to have a better gauge on 'em.

One day I'm going to do a huge and thorough review of the Votoms DMZ toys. So far I've only dabbled in getting Votoms on my site, creating pages with the first toy of various lines for the most part. The next time a recession hits and there's no new Macross or Mospeada products coming out every month, I'll pull out the Votoms toys... if it's a long enough recession, I may even get a chance to dust off the Patlabor collection.

Maybe building the scope dogs out of vegetables will prevent the from combusting when getting shot.  Can't hurt.

I've been loving all the iPhone 11 scopedog mash ups. Would love to pull out some Votoms toys, but way too much on my plate right now. Feels like such a waste having them all in totes.

That's funny.  Hopefully that doesn't mean your iPhone 11 blows up in a fireball when you drop it!

If anyone wants an Iphone case for a 6/6S/ or 7, I have the Votoms case from the VR Zone and no old Iphone. PM me if that fancies you.

It would be sweet to change all the Iphone sounds to Votoms sound effects... but I'm sticking with Android.

whoa!

Peaugh recently reviewed some VOTOMS bots, Acid Rain's B2Five Scopedog and Brutishdog:

I didn't get 'em since they were rather expensive for SD'ish bots and, honestly, I Like Big Bots And I Cannot Lie!

However, these new SD'ish 'Dogs are quite very interesting based on Peaugh's review.

I re-watched The Last Red Shoulder for the first time in years last night. It fits in really well with the show and doesn't go all crazy with the Chirico can't be killed stuff. Excluding the Chirico can't be killed stuff in Roots of Ambition, it's still probably my favorite OVA, but Last Red Shoulder is very good.

Couldn't resist the 10k-yen pricing at sahra, so finally got me Fyana's DMZ-Spacedog...

:bump:

Is this actually a model? Or is that a translation thing? Does it come out of the box ready to rock/ Is it a better fit/finish than the DMZ-O1?

@treatment

Thanks!

It's not a model kit, it's a toy.  It requires virtually no effort to assemble, so yes: it comes out of the box ready to rock.  :good:

My Votoms section is pretty weak... I have a hard time keeping up with Macross and Mospeada releases. That said, the DMZ toys are BOMB for the price. Excellent paint job and not nearly as frustrating to handle as early Yamato 1/12 dogs (later Yamato 1/12 toys are pretty good but also very plain looking... they make amazing customs). DMZ toys do have some compromises though, articulation isn't the best but it's a lot better than classic toys. If you're considering buying one, I have an extra Chirico Last Red Should Turbo Custom that might interest you. Shoot me a PM!

It is not a model kit.

It is ready to go battle out of the box.

DMZ-03 has nice panel-lining details despite being all-green. It has relatively less detailing compared to DMZ-01, which is very nicely detailed to be kinda weathered and beat-up junkyard dog.

Where does this one sit on the quality scale? Anymoon is down.

How do you mean?

It's a quality high-end collectible.

However, it's not quite a toy so it can't take the drastic heavy abuse that one can do with the tank-like Yammie 1/12 or even with the original  chunky 1/24 Dual Models /DM Revivals tanks.

You should take up Jenius' offer for his Turbo Custom DMZ.  Those are almost always the most expensive of the DMZs (item and shipping) to import.

Yeah, convinced me to grab OVA2 which is all stuff I haven't seen before. I watched Chirico's Return last night for the first time... pretty amazing fights/fight choreography but there's just no drama to Chirico after the original series. Good to see the ol' crew back together I suppose but otherwise.... they should have left Chirico and Fyana alone and just placed new shows in the universe like they did with Mellowlink which seems like the only thing we're missing now.
