DarrinG Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Its like when someone remakes a song. If the original is beloved, and still getting airplay its MUCH harder to top. Few pull it off. This Ingram design is hard to beat... Quote
dizman Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 It begs the question of why they would try to change it in the first place? Make it more "modern' for today's audience would be my guess. Quote
the white drew carey Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 The AV-98 Ingram design is timeless. There will never be a reason to update it. It is, IMHO, one of the best mecha designs ever. Quote
DarrinG Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I'm all for some updates to a classic design. But I ran across a movie version Starscream image the other day and felt ill. This kind of robot / mecha design 'modernization' for shock sake is garbage, and irresponsible IMO. Update and tweak, yes -- improve on a classic, yes -- but this warp and distort because you think the current generation is at attention-burnout just sucks ( imo ). The Ingram lego version is no better. Makes me cringe... Quote
UN Spacy Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Related? http://blog.yahoo.com/cybergundam/articles/1275388/index Quote
valkyriechild Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Wow, that's cool, promotion perhaps? The location seems similar too. Get a wider truck and it's set. Quote
505thAirborne Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Hollywood CGI everything and pull a Bayformers with the original mecha. Japan, make a real Robot and keep it true to the design. Score is 1-0 I want that INGRAM 98 for my collection! Quote
SuperHobo Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 After looking at the clearer pictures, I'm quite impressed with this live action version of the Ingram. They didn't screw with the original design too much, a bit more sharp angles and panel lines, but it looks pretty good. So Bandai where's the SOC or SRC? Send in the toys! Quote
Duymon Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 The real live-action ingram looks better than their CGI's, but I still wonder what would a vanilla ingram look like at that size? Quote
Temjin Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 The real live-action ingram looks better than their CGI's, I think they are about the same... Quote
Old_Nash Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Pic from Ingram in the movie https://twitter.com/CHABACHI79/status/363477470239928320/photo/1 Quote
azrael Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 At least they deployed the prop into the field instead of using a giant blue screen and place holder dots. Quote
mass driver Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Wow, I'm glad this is finally going forward but my enthusiasm is dulled by the shoulder and face redesign. If only they left the design like the TV it would be perfect. Quote

thegunny Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 That's great but I would have thought they could come up something a bit more modern for the command car than a 1950's Ferret Scout Car Quote
DarrinG Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 (edited) That's just a support vehicle, they were commonly seen along with the command cars. The updated design does not look as bad here as it did in the promo illustration. This is pretty cool... Edited August 5, 2013 by DarrinG Quote
LOW_ALT Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Hmm...it looks slightly better that I expected, but still kinda chinese knock-off. Quote
the white drew carey Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Yeah. Better than the promo photo, but a bunch of useless greeblies added on for no discernible effect. The thing I always loved about the Ingram design was that it was visually smooth and sleek, which separated it from the work-a-day labors it was built to contend with, as well as the military labors and then the ultra-sleek and stylish Griffon. It just looked like it was designed in mind with the knowledge that it had to be functional, but was also going to be the very visible face of which ever police departments were using it.This? "Let's throw giant lug nuts on the shoulder... just because."Give me a new animated movie, please. This time focusing on Section 2, unlike WXIII (which was well-animated, but only really Patlabor by the inclusion of Section 2 in a few key action scenes). Quote
DarrinG Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Give me a new animated movie, please. This time focusing on Section 2, unlike WXIII (which was well-animated, but only really Patlabor by the inclusion of Section 2 in a few key action scenes). THIS - New animated movie all about Section 2 with lots of Labor action this time... Quote
LOW_ALT Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I would be stoked if they included the Pythons in the film. Quote
Hikuro Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 So I'm guessing this Unit 2 I'm seeing on the labor loading truck is not Alphonse? However I REALLY like where this is going. Quote
choiboy77 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Been a super fan of Patlabor since I was kid in the late 80's, early 90's. I'm looking forward to the live action movie next year after seeing the recent pictures, so excited!! Quote
IXTL Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 New images. http://patlabor-nextgeneration.com/ Quote
Marzan Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 It seems by the images provided, that everything surrounding the Labor's themselves looks fairly cheap or rustic. I like that since it's keeping with the spirit of the series itself. I need to see Ohta's revolver! Quote
IXTL Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Since they've dubbed it "Next Generation", I wonder if it's a continuation of the movie or TV timeline and this labor we're seeing is not the original Ingram but a newer model. Note the stun stick/baton is now stored on the side of the shield instead of under it. Quote
anime52k8 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 That's really, really horrible looking. Quote
LOW_ALT Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Why is the torso section so elongated? Maybe the pilot stands up now like Pacific Rim Quote
DarrinG Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I think we all would have been (mostly) OK with the body mods, if they had left the face plate more like the original... Quote
dizman Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 If they are going for a continuation of the patlabor series why didn't they go with a sleeker design like the AV-0? That head looks much better darrin. Quote
electric indigo Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 This proves that you don't need american designers to mess up a perfect mecha design. Quote
Renato Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Another new pic:https://twitter.com/TKR1009/status/368704005351821312/photo/1 I see a boom mic. Oh, and a giant robot! Quote
mass driver Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I think we all would have been (mostly) OK with the body mods, if they had left the face plate more like the original... LiveAction.jpg Wow. That instantly makes it look 10x better Quote
