dakedo Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) I am just watching Orguss and noticed the hairs of some of the characters belonging to the ah Emarns race, I think thats the name I may be wrong. Anyway, anyone else thinks Jame Cameron took the idea from Orguss for the blue species' hair in Avatar? The hair moves by itself and seems to have a deep meaning like showing feelings between the Emarns. Edited February 26, 2013 by dakedo Quote

Keith Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Keith, where's the link to where you discussed this previously? Point the guy to the previous conversation. Was there one? I thought it just me laughingv my way through the movie. Quote
Duke Togo Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Was there one? I thought it just me laughingv my way through the movie. Avatar doesn't have a single original bone in its body. Quote
Beltane70 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Only, it's not hair, just hair-colored. Quote
Kaldar5 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) Had to start watching Orguss again, it's been so so long. Wow. It didn't occur to me how similar it is to the plot of the Macross 30 game. Planet where other worlds connect, with space time disruptions, and basically cannot leave the atmosphere. Mmmmm Mimsy tentacles. Edited February 26, 2013 by Kaldar5 Quote
Garbon Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 IIRC Cameron based the hair thing on real life traditions, not Orguss. Quote
Duke Togo Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 IIRC Cameron based the hair thing on real life traditions, not Orguss. Transitions of what? Anime? Quote
pfunk Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 We dont have that tradition in my family Quote
Garbon Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Transitions of what? Anime? Tribal customs. Long before anime was created. Quote
Duke Togo Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Tribal customs. Long before anime was created. I'm fairly certain no tribe on Earth has appendages like that. Quote

dakedo Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Only, it's not hair, just hair-colored. So if a brunnete dyes her hair blonde, the tentacles would give her away? Quote
jenius Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 If you find the link I would like to read what others said. It's a joke. Keith coming out of the wood work with his "of course" when the truth is that no one thinks of Orguss.... ever. Quote

Renato Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Had to start watching Orguss again, it's been so so long. Wow. It didn't occur to me how similar it is to the plot of the Macross 30 game. Planet where other worlds connect, with space time disruptions, and basically cannot leave the atmosphere. I mentioned that in the podcast! It's a joke. Keith coming out of the wood work with his "of course" when the truth is that no one thinks of Orguss.... ever. Hey, I do! IMO, Orguss is awesome, much better than that Mospeada show that everyone seems to adore. Quote
Duke Togo Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Hey, I do! IMO, Orguss is awesome, much better than that Mospeada show that everyone seems to adore. Hey now, thems fightin' words! Quote
Renato Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Hey now, thems fightin' words! Bring it on! What are ya, Yellow?? Seriously, though, I never got what was so great about that show. It's not bad, I guess, but Orguss always seemed much more interesting to me. To me, Artmic really hit their stride later on, with Megazone, Gall Force, Bugglegum, etc... Quote
Gubaba Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Hey now, thems fightin' words! No, Renato's right. Orguss has Joan of Arc vs. Marie Antoinette. That alone makes it one of the greatest stories ever. Quote
Dynaman Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Thanks to this thread I've started watching Orguss for the first time. The main character is a major switch from the Hikaru mindset, more like Focker really (only up to episode 2 so if things change I'll find out later). Quote

jenius Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I think Orguss is awesome but the mechanical designs of Mospeada are easily better. Quote
VF5SS Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I think the only thing people really like about Mospeada are some of the mechanical designs. The show itself is pretty cookie cutter. Nobody's ever professing their love for The Stig. Quote
Kelsain Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Don't forget: Joan of Arc vs Marie Antoinette with LASER CANNONS. Never finished the show though, my little girl's naps went away and then I got a job. Maybe someday... Quote
Kelsain Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Oops, double post. Since I'm here, I always thought it'd be cool to get a bunch of 1/144 orgus kits and make a properly scaled Glomar to put them in. Complete with the VF-1J crates. Edited March 4, 2013 by Kelsain Quote

dakedo Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 I found this video about space elevators and how it could be possible to build one developing our baby nano-technology It astonishes me how Orguss used the idea 30 years ago!! Quote
Dynaman Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I found this video about space elevators and how it could be possible to build one developing our baby nano-technology It astonishes me how Orguss used the idea 30 years ago!! Arthur C Clarke (I think) came up with the idea in the sixties or seventies. It has been around for a long time. The material science is only just getting into the hypothetical "we can see this happening" stage now but the idea has been around for a while. Quote

I was also seeing in another video with Mr Neil Tyson, he comments it was a common idea in the 60s Quote
