Duke Togo Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 not realistic... chewie's fur is still brand new. should be more shaggy. He started using conditioner Quote
boinger Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I just got back. Teaser trailer #2. Oh, so cool! I'm 3 hours behind the live stream, but I can scroll the stream backwards to watch from the beginning. I'll be watching CVII all day until it finishes for today at 8 pm PST. I wonder what panels and interviews we'll see on the stream? Quote
peter Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Observations and questions Opening desert scene, original X-wing, o new JJ Abrams x-wing? Going by the timing of Luke’s monologue, my guess is that’s his hand on R2, and that is Leia taking possession of Luke’s ANH/ESB lightsaber? It’s a youngish looking hand though, so flashback scene? What’s the creature handing it off and what’s the background? The Sith lighting up is red sabre, definitely a storm trooper in the back ground of that fight scene. Black tie-fighters with white solar cells? New design star destroyer Crome trooper looks pretty bad-ass. Looks like his blaster has an AR collapsible buttstock with a Tapco cheekriser? 1-4x scope? Falcon chase scene, Falcon flying through the engine of a down Star Destroyer? Quote
mechaninac Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 That second teaser had me goose-bumping from the moment I saw the crashed Star Destroyer.... Quote
EXO Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Did Chewie get botox??? Ugh, this is what happens when you do a sequel 30 years after the fact... Quote
aerocombatpilot Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Did anybody else think the downed star destroyer looked like a model or a matte painting, and not CG? Quote

Kelsain Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 That would fit the scale. So, does that mean Rebel Assault 2 is canon? Quote
Chronocidal Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yep, that theme always gets me teary eyed. Now, they need to make up for the prequels and actually USE that music.. prequel soundtracks really needed more callbacks to that sort of theme. Looks like it will be fun, though I still think the new x-wing wings look incredibly stupid from every angle except directly in front (so you cant tell how skinny and weak they look). Quote
abbadon Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I think I'm going to go watch it a few more times... Quote
Roy Focker Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I'm surprised that there's wreckage of Star Destroyers. In the first 3 movies the Imperial stuff seemed to blow up in a millions pieces if you sneezed on it. Quote
Kelsain Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Interesting, it looks like this is just an upgraded ISD. That seems prudent. It also looks like the new TIEs can fire backwards. I kinda dig the new color scheme, too. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (Spoilers) Closer look at Episode VII Troopers and Kylo Ren ! Quote
myk Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Did anybody else think the downed star destroyer looked like a model or a matte painting, and not CG? GOOD on them if it's not CGI... Quote
Duke Togo Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Gonna call it now: Poe Dameron has a bit of the Isamu Dyson in him Quote
ron5864 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 For some reason, the scene with the downed X-wing and Star Destroyer reminds me of the scene in Macross SDF with a wrecked VF-1 and Zentradi ship on the surface of the post-war Earth. Quote
azrael Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yeah, definitely not liking the helmets on any of these new 'troopers. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Looks like the falcon is flying through a crashed Super Star Destroyer! image.jpg Ooh, interesting. I first thought it was Venator-class based on the engines, but I've only watched it on my phone so far. (Venator-class wrecks would be like 100x more common, but the raw size required for a scene like that does point towards an SSD) Quote

TangledThorns Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I recommend watching the trailer on a larger smart TV if you have one. The trailer was pure JJ Abrams. Could be a good thing... or bad... Quote
troyness Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I gotta a feeling that someone gate crashed the outdoor Vader BBQ. Cheap cut crispy DNA Vader steaks...."Cloneworld, party time, excellent" Quote

(Venator-class wrecks would be like 100x more common, but the raw size required for a scene like that does point towards an SSD) Also that shot has no sign of the big hyperdrive generator/inertial compensator nacelle you'd see on a Venator, but it does appear to have the secondary drives from an Executor-class in the background. Marzan Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I must admit I'm a bit of a cynical sceptic when it comes to sequels, but this trailer had me almost tearing up a little. It just might seem that Abrams nailed the atmosphere and old school feel Star Wars had. And the "Chewie, we're back" had me almost in tears. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 It just might seem that Abrams nailed the atmosphere and old school feel Star Wars had. I keep thinking---is it simply due to real sets and real models, as opposed to green-screen sets and CG ships? Or is it something much more than that, harder to identify and replicate? Quote
electric indigo Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I like the sleeker nose on the new X-Wing, but you have to wonder how the intake fans are supposed to work... Quote
myk Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yeah that makes no sense at all. They should've just left that part of the redesign alone, or something... Quote
Dobber Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 As much as I like the new X-wing, I agree that doesn't make sense. Chris Quote
TangledThorns Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I like the sleeker nose on the new X-Wing, but you have to wonder how the intake fans are supposed to work... Heh, I'm still trying to figure how the Death Star moves. LOL Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I have to admit Chewie looks cute and adorable. Quote
myk Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 As much as I like the new X-wing, I agree that doesn't make sense. Chris Maybe it's not a "fan" or rotating thing at all? Maybe it's just a series of blade like screens or something; sort of like the screens that cover a VF1's intakes in Batteoid mode? Quote

Maybe it's just a series of blade like screens or something; sort of like the screens that cover a VF1's intakes in Batteoid mode? I was thinking along the same lines...maybe they are some sort of thrust vector vanes for reverse thrust while in space flight? They LOOK silly but I can come up with "geek" explanations for them Chris Quote
Duke Togo Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) It's Star Wars, it's fantasy. The starship designs aren't supposed to "make sense." You guys have seen these movies before, right? You'd also expect that the Jawas would take care of the grounded stuff instantly. This isn't the planet you're looking for Edited April 17, 2015 by Duke Togo Quote
