Totenkupf Posted December 11, 2003 Author Posted December 11, 2003 Moon act Though the honeycomb pattern was given in decal of the Moon act, I abandoned it because I think masking will be better. Quote
Totenkupf Posted December 11, 2003 Author Posted December 11, 2003 (edited) Before paint the main colour Edited December 11, 2003 by Totenkupf Quote
Neova Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Totenkupf, Thanks for the pics! So the main process consisted of a pre-shade, color detail, base colour coat, then decal and wash? Did you primer the kit prior to anything? Did you also seal the kit with a finish of some sort? I couldn't tell since your detailing and panel lines are so incredible. The more I see the works of art here, the more I think I need to invest in an airbrush. Quote
007-vf1 Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Would you mind giving us some tips on the process between the 3rd and 4th pictures?? 1-main base light color or prime 2- second base dark shade color 3-over coat with light shade color What type of airbrushh do you use to keep the panel lines from becoming saturated with the light top paint coat? Do you layer top coats of gloss enamel or future in between colors ? Quote
Commander McBride Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 I have to say, those shots of the Paris Act are possibly the best valkyrie model I've ever seen on MW. That paint job is absolutely worthy to grace the pages of Model Graphix. Quote
dyowelb Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 (edited) great work... yeah, a more detailed post will be nice(aka how-to).. Edited December 11, 2003 by dyowelb Quote
EXO Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 BLOOOWN AWAY! I thought those were decals with weathering on top. What about your super clean panel lines? Quote
newca Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 That paint job is absolutely worthy to grace the pages of Model Graphix. I think so! how to contribute articles to those Japanese, HK or American model mags? anyone could help? Quote
Totenkupf Posted December 12, 2003 Author Posted December 12, 2003 This Valkyrie are similar to military models in steps of paniting. I used to model AFV and I turned to model science ficsion work two years ago. After surfacer, the first step is the dark shade of German Gray (Moon Act is red brown+black) Quote
Totenkupf Posted December 12, 2003 Author Posted December 12, 2003 next is the dark blue of the Paris Act,after masking this color is the light blue(this blue is composed of cobalt blue, white and a little clear red) ,then masking it. Quote
Totenkupf Posted December 12, 2003 Author Posted December 12, 2003 next is the base white mixed a little black and blue.Mind leave the dark shade. then is the pure white in middle of every plane. My airbrush is made of Taiwan about $30,it performs not excellent,I could only use it carefully with my mini voltage regular. Washing lines with Zippo+oil colour(ivory black) just as I used to in AFV modeling. But it was hard to make the coat clear enough. Then I tried to use the enamel paint, but the surface didn't yet satisfed me at last this time. I sincerely hope sb can tell me how to wash clear? Quote
Commander McBride Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 My airbrush is made of Taiwan about $30 Here it is, the proof that your airbrush is not what makes work good. Clearly, as long as it has a few basic features, it's the user's skill that makes a paint job good or bad. Of course, maybe I proved that myself, with my $150 Iwata Eclipse and my horrible paint work... Quote

waipahu_boi Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 (edited) You put masking into a new level! Awesome work! Edited December 17, 2003 by waipahu_boi Quote
wm cheng Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Wow! I thought the honeycomb was decalled, the masking is excellent. And spraying white over the dark colours even turned out great - how many coats of white did it take? Fantastic work, inspires me to start my own battroids finally (maybe - too much of an airplane guy so far). Thanks so much for your excellent contributions to this board Totenkupf. Looking forward to seeing more in the near future! Quote
