They've bootlegged Macross and Gundam, and now, the Chinese are taking a crack on copying Super Sentai. Giant Saver (巨神戰擊隊 Jùshén zhàn jí duì, or "Titan Sqadron") just premiered on Chinese television this month. And I'm actually disappointed. Disappointed that unlike Astro Plan, this show actually looks good. The fight choreography and special effects are surprisingly better than what the Americans use on Power Rangers, and the mecha designs are unbelievably impressive. Because of this, I can't really make fun of this show. It's amazing!

And here's why the fight scenes look good: Takanori Shibahara is a veteran stunt coordinator who was a suit actor for Super Sentai shows from Battle Fever J (1979) to Kagaku Sentai Dynaman (1983), as well as the Metal Hero Series from 1982 to 1985. His company Wild Stunts has done other works in Super Sentai and Kamen Rider franchises before doing China's first tokusatsu show Armor Hero (2008).
