VF-15 Banshee Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Was puttering around on the DB wiki and found a few things. First, the new movie is called Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. The new poster shows SSJ Goku fighting some cat-like purple creature with Egyptian-esque garb while a Kai-like being floats in the background. Not at all sure what this means. Scans from a magazine say that the cat alien is called Bills and the Kai or pseudo-Kai or whatever he is, is called Wiss. And apparently DBKai will be finishing out the Buu Saga, funnily enough, because of demand from outside of Japan. Quote
Renato Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 "Mayumi Tanaka, posted news on her blog confirming that Dragon Ball Kai will be continuing, as voice work was already under way for the early stages of the Majin Buu story arc. Her post goes on to specify that the series revivial is for the overseas market, and as of the time of her post there are no plans to air the new episodes in Dragon Ball's home country of Japan." OK, I don't really understand... there are no plans to air it in Japan, yet they are recording the voice work in Japanese? I am sure eventually they will air it in Japan. Quote
Roy Focker Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I don't under what is so great about Dragon Ball. Sure it has somethings going for it but they drag what should be a two episode story about a fight into a 35 episodes. Quote
Fusion Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 It was great when I was a kid. I know the storyline is pretty stupid but when you're a kid and see a bunch of powerups and crap blow up. What's there not to like? I can't wait to see the new movie. The online special they had a few years back gave a good nostagic feeling when I watched it. Quote

I always preferred watching Gundam on Toonami as a kid. Quote
badboy00z Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I loved DBZ when I was a kid but yes, they do drag things out a bit and it gets really annoying. I haven't watched but one or two episode of Kai but it's supposed to cut out all the fillers. Do they cut out all the unnecessary fight scenes?? I made a thread about DBZ Abridged but no one posted. Funniest thing related to DBZ. It's a must watch for DBZ fans. Not sure what to think about this new Cat God guy but I'll watch it anyways. Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Check it out: Original DBZ from beginning to end of Cell Saga: 194 episodes Dragon Ball Kai from beginning to Cell Saga: 97 episodes. So that's nearly 100 episodes of filler that they took out. Quote
Smut Peddler Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Is there an estimated release date on the new movie ? Quote
mikeszekely Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Dragon Ball was pretty awesome. Dragon Ball Z not so much. Quote
Ivan Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Accordingly, the reason why the Dragon Ball Z anime was heavily dragged out was because the manga took much longer than the anime to produce, hence why the studio needed to come up with filler episodes on its own while the manga production was trying to catch up. Given this, I think Kai is definitely worth a watch. Dragon Ball Z was a big hit back then because the fighting styles and the concept of Super Seiyan were quite creative and revolutionary at that time (similar to the wire-fu and bullet time of Matrix). Its influence was clearly evident in many copycat animes during the 90's. Quote
kanedaestes Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 uh it's still evident Naruto and Bleach prove that. Quote
Old_Nash Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 When o read this thread, I thinked a new DB evoluiton movie... Quote
badboy00z Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I just finished watching Kai. Will they continue to do the rest of it or just stop where they did?? Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 As I said earlier, yes, they're working on finishing it off and have been since about November. Quote
Hikuro Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Well either way, this is a lot of "OH NOES! EVIL HIGHER POWER LEVELS!!!" and "OH NOES! GOKU IS GETTING HIS ASS KICKED!" "Oh, he wins." Quote
GU-11 Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Thank goodness. When I saw the title of this thread, I though the live action movie was getting a sequel or reboot. Actually, it doesn't really matter to me, since I was never a fan of DB. Watched the LAM because of the brandname, and wish I hadn't. Quote
badboy00z Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 How come Trunks and Goten don't have tails?? Quote
Hikuro Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Genetics, maybe the tail is more of a resessive trait when mixed with human DNA? Or maybe he had one and they keep cutting it off cause they don't want a weremonkey in their midsts. Quote
badboy00z Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I guess either of those reasons would make sense. But I would think Vegeta wouldn't want to cut off his son's tail because of his Saiyan pride. lol Quote
Lobizon Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Film's Ads Aired Quote
Tochiro Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Lobizon - nice find! I came across some posters for the film while at the cinema on Friday night - no be honest I'm not a fan of the cat-god-of-destructions face. It just looks so...not Dragonball ^^; Quote

It just looks so...not Dragonball ^^; Exactly what I'm thinking. In fact I was so disappointed about that Cat-face character design. I dunno, I just feel like he was like a random character from Looney Tunes. =\ Quote
Archer Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 WOW! This brings back so many memories, I might just shed manly tears. I grew up on DBZ (thanks to toonami), and it was one of the first anime's that me and most of my generation got into. Looking back, DBZ was pretty....jouvenile in terms of plot, but I'll be watching this, if anything, for pure nostalgia alone Quote

VF-15 Banshee Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 That Bills guy has my respect forever. He beat down the Z Fighters with chopsticks and floored SS3 Goku with a finger. Quote
badboy00z Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 So...this takes place before DBGT or is it completely non cannon? Quote
Arthurius Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 it's after Z, apparently sometime in the 10 obscure years before the next saga started. Quote
antibiotictab Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 He has already appeared in Tokyo International Anime Fair... Quote
Voltes5 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 That Bills guy has my respect forever. He beat down the Z Fighters with chopsticks and floored SS3 Goku with a finger. I love Dragonball, but it got ridiculous after the android saga. Quote
Tochiro Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Just came out of the cinema. The new DBZ was a bunch of fun and fan service (in a good way). And Bills could well be one of my new favorite characters. He has explosive alarm clocks :-D Quote

And Bills could well be one of my new favorite characters. He has explosive alarm clocks :-D What most impressed me was the animation. Good god, is it a beautiful movie. Finally, DBZ looks as good on screen as it always has in my imagination. Movie is absolutely gorgeous. And Bills is just cool. I really hope to see him in a new DBZ fighting game. A new, good, DBZ fighting game. Emphasis on that last point. Quote
