91WhiskeyM6 Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Gaia, another name Shirow uses in Appleseed, was the mother of the Hecatoncheires (the name means hundred-handed). Their father was Uranus. The three brothers had a strong dislike for Uranus, and when he found out, Uranus shoved them back up Gaia's womb. Now that's some heavy handed fisting served up by Uranus.... Er, did that just come out right??? I mean really that's how the myth went Well, where talking about Greeks here right Quote
gnollman Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 has anyone read the manga? i was thinking of picking it up and i wanted to know if it was worth it before i did that. thanks in advance!!! Yes. In my opinion, the Appleseed series is Masamune's best work.... Be prepared to join the crowd waiting for vol. 5, though.... Quote
Batou Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 has anyone read the manga? i was thinking of picking it up and i wanted to know if it was worth it before i did that. thanks in advance!!! Worth every penny and more. The art from the earlier books (1 and 2) don't quite hold up to this current stuff, but 3 and especially 4 are breathtaking. The plot can be a little hard to follow at times (it is Shirow, after all), but the execution and action are second to none. I just love the apocalyptic cityscapes he painstakingly drew by hand way before he got into using computers. The landmates and other technical designs in Appleseed was his best work ever, IMHO. If you like mecha, this is the manga for you. Be prepared to join the crowd waiting for vol. 5, though.... Amen. <_< Quote

Exo rekindled my love for Shirow and I've been buying all his stuff that I don't have. If you buy a single TPB every 6 months, the wait for Appleseed 5 isn't nearly as painful. Quote

You can't call it a manga collection without Appleseed in it. And YLM... it'll start hurting soon once you finish all of them... Quote
Briareos Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Book 1 and 2 are by far a better read than 3 and 4. Much too political for my tastes but I did enjoy the art. Book 3 especially. Anywaz some shirow news for you. http://dl.foobio.net/free/title/greeting.html Essentially it summerizes - INTRON DEPOT will be published by Kodansha instead of Shirow's old publishers Seishinsha - INTRON DEPOT 5 YAMATAIKO to be published by Kodansha - The title of INTRON DEPOT 6(7?) is set to "BABEL". - Art Book which collected DOMINION or the covers of magazine (COMIC GUN etc.) will be published. Intron Depot Bullets is already slated for release this year. Quote
Skull00 Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 (edited) Anyone know much about the story? Is it going to be based off the books, or is it another story set in the Appleseed universe? Wasn`t that a spider gun platform from Appleseed Book 2 in the trailer? I`m guessing the rough basis for the story might be books 1&2 of the manga. I`m not a big fan of the CG either. Looks too much like GITS to me. I was half expecting Deunan to turn invisible after jumping off the building. Anyway can`t really be worse than the 1992 OVA in my opinion. gnollman Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 Anyway can`t really be worse than the 1992 OVAÂ in my opinion. Heh... isn't that the truth. I'm not sure which I was more disappointed in, the Appleseed OAV or the Samurai Shodown movie. Okay, that's a bald-faced lie, but it gives you an idea how much I disliked it.... Quote

Hehe, the funny thing about that is, I could have bought a single TBP each year and still been waiting almost ten years for Appleseed 5.... As it is, I feel Morpheus has a better chance of getting it for his library than I do. Quote

That's true, if you started reading Appleseed when Book One came out from Eclipse comics in the late 80's, well... That thought is too horrific. Quote
Mr.Sci-Fi Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 OK I don't care what any says about anything but this movie is going to awesome. extended trailer Quote

the white drew carey Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Great trailer. If anything, it'll be wonderful eye candy. I still don't like how almost every production of a Shirow project uses different character designs. His are awesome!!! But, alas, someone in Japan don't think so. Quote
Briareos Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Appleseed Press Conference http://www.web-newtype.com/contents/hotnew...04_01/27_a.html Now which one is Duenan and which one's Hitomi? Quote
bsu legato Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 It's pretty sad when this film looks more compelling than anything Shirow himself has done in the last 10 years. Quote
yellowlightman Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 It's pretty sad when this film looks more compelling than anything Shirow himself has done in the last 10 years. More compelling than horseman animal porn!? Surely you jest! But yeah, Shirow has been on a downhill since the early 90's, methinks. Kind of like Kenichi Sonoda and multitudes of other fan-favorite artists and creators from the 80's. Quote

Briareos Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Well the merchandising for this movie is popping up. Sony Music: http://www.sonymusicshop.jp/detail.asp?goods=SRCP000000368 Prologue of APPLESEED / APPLESEED THE TRIGGER http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20040227/geneon.htm a behind the scenes dvd with a bonus figure that has 13 points of articulation. APPLESEED COMPLETE BOX basically a guidebook that comes with a Briareos figure. http://books.rakuten.co.jp/jpaol/NS/CSfLas...NO=1646965&fl=1 Now only if they made a functional Guges for this Duenan Figure. Or even a Pan suit. Quote
EXO Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Same f'n figures.... different packaging... (new face for deunan though) Now only if they made a functional Guges for this Duenan Figure. Or even a Pan suit No kidding... something like this... Quote
Briareos Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Same f'n figures.... different packaging... (new face for deunan though) well same sculpt. But if you notice more articulation. Remember the Briareos figure was one solid piece of plastic. And i think the Duenan fig is completely original. Dunno.. You might be right. Quote

Weird spot to put the elbow joint on Bri, right on the muscle. I'll have to pick these up, hopefully i can swap the movie head for the Shirow designed one. Thanks Bri! Quote
EXO Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 From my BotI mailing list: Got this off the shirownet ML:Geneon Acquires Appleseed (2004-03-03 12:13:19) Geneon Entertainment has acquired the World Wide (except Japan) rights to the upcoming Appleseed Movie. The movie will be released in Japan on April 17th, in North America this summer and in Europe and Asia at a later (undisclosed) time. Source: Y! Briareos Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 A new trailer posted on Sony Music. http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/MORRICH/md_bbs/ Quote
EXO Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Nice trailer, Bri. Some scenes were lifted of the manga from what I noticed. Like when Briarioes demolishes that cyborg with one punch. Hitomi looked kinda strange, as Deunan did the first time I saw her. YLM... this trailer is a lot darker and should suit your taste more. Quote
the white drew carey Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Ummm... what's a Morrich? Could someone guide me through that link to the new trailer? Quote
