Hoptimus Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 It would be interesting to see the BluRay. What I find wih older shows like anime that was made for TV is that they look weird in high def. It is not like film that is already higher res than Blu Ray so it looks good. I mean the Akira Anime on blu ray looked good since it was made on 35mm. Macross though was 16mm and cheaply made at that. So for my purposes the US Animeigo DVD set looks great. Now that is running on my Bluray Player that is upscanning it to 1080p. Colors look good and I really like how Animeigo does their sub titles. Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 I have been busy! I've watched both the OVA and the movie of Macross Plus, all of the Macross 7 P*L*U*S* shorts, the Macross 7 Encore episodes (Fleet of the Strongest Women is still my favorite) and The Galaxy is Calling Me. I just started watching my favorite episodes of the main 7 series, then it's on to Dynamite 7. And I still do not understand that Mylene rape scene. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Nice! I will probably watch DYRL and the Plus movie after I finish with my Animeigo TV set(just finished ep12 last night) Then it will be onto Mospeada for its 30th next year! Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Ahhh Pineapple Salad. Great episode. Also one not done by Animefiend thank goodness. Roy was just too much of a tough guy.. Quote
VF5SS Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Great episode. Also one not done by Animefiend thank goodness. http://www.macrossworld.com/1149/1983-interview-with-hiroshi-iwata/ Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 http://www.macrossworld.com/1149/1983-interview-with-hiroshi-iwata/ Thanks! I had no idea they were subcontracting work. Same thing happened on the US Batman Animated series.. Either way it's funny how Macross can look phenominal one episode and then very flat and off in another. Not as consistant as others of the era. arrow Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I bought way too much yamato and bandai VF this year. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Just finished "Goodbye Girl" Great episode and one that is animated well. Nice after 2 shoddy looking episodes in a row. Of course up next is "Virgin Road" which has some of the worst animation in Macross history. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 "GET THE BOOBY DUCK!" Has some of the best lines too. "Bust of about 85cm,will expand when unwrapped.." LMAO. Quote
Marzan Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I'm doing my anniversary re-watch of SDFM. I had kind of forgotten how impressively animated and choreographed (for the time) the sequence in episode 2 is, were Minmay is rescued in mid-air by HIkaru, after his battroid had it's arm shot off. It's no wonder it's been referenced by other anime. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Made it through Virgin Road. Man that is still hard to watch. Got through the big battle and now we are in my not so favorite episodes of the series. Quote
Strumvogel Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Made it through Virgin Road. Man that is still hard to watch. Got through the big battle and now we are in my not so favorite episodes of the series. But hey, you got to love the knife fencing right? It still makes me laugh after all these years. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Yeah its that bad that it is hilarious. I like all the "metal shavings/glare" that just runs across the frame.. Quote
Tochiro Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Made it through Virgin Road. Man that is still hard to watch. Got through the big battle and now we are in my not so favorite episodes of the series. You should see it on a cinema screen. Had the audience in stitches. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Viva Maria.. Parts of the episode are very nice. Then there are some really bad animation sections. I still love how Milia throws Komilla over to Misa. LMAO. Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 I still love how Milia throws Komilla over to Misa. LMAO. I was watching the episode of M7 where Milia is looking nostalgically at her VF-1 and I thought, "Yeah Lady, that the Valk that you carted your baby daughter around in a medical capsule!" Well, I finished going through my fav episodes of Macross 7, which amounted to some 12-15 episodes or so. There's some good stuff there, like the DYRL episode, the Mylene-and-Basara-nearly-freeze episode, the one where Mylene tries to get her parents back together, the Valkyrie festival ep, the ones where Sivil possess Lex and Akiko and of course, Operation: Stargazer and the finale. One thing I thought of in this second run through was that Gepelnitch seemed to be taking an unnecessary risk by using his Protodeviln body. Now it's on to Dynamite 7 and Macross Zero! After that the Frontier TV series, then Macross II and wrapping it all up with the Frontier movies. Maybe by then FB7 will be "available." I'm also using all this Macross to dull the pain from watching ZZ Gundam and SEED Destiny. Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Some episodes of the epilogue portion of SDF Macross are really great like "Satan's Dolls" but then there is "Broken Heart" which is good except for the Hikaru-Minmay-Misa pining... Quote
Marzan Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Watched "Dædalus Attack" last night. Kept thinking how mindblowing those battle scenes with some mean Itano circus must have been back in 1982. Quote
Gubaba Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Watched "Dædalus Attack" last night. Kept thinking how mindblowing those battle scenes with some mean Itano circus must have been back in 1982. Before, y'know, we got totally spoiled by the battles in K-on an' crap, right...? Quote

MichaelS Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Spend money I shouldn't on toys I don't need and watch what my wife calls kids shows. LOL Quote
MichaelS Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Pfah...you think that'll actually CHANGE anything...? The only way this will help is if it puts HG in a better mood and if Big West feels like baling them out (for a price of coarse). Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Guys. That HG news does not belong here. Either start a new thread or let it drop. Thanks. I am on the last few episodes. I forgot that the last 2 are pretty dang awesome. Kamjin becomes so fun to watch especially in Romanesque. Now just one left and I will probably get to it tonight. Quote
Marzan Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Before, y'know, we got totally spoiled by the battles in K-on an' crap, right...? I'm afraid you lost me there? Quote
Hoptimus Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Ahh "Farewell to Tenderness" Great final episode. Now onto watching it with the commentary! Quote
VF-15 Banshee Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 Finished watching Macross Zero and watched the Deculture edition of the first episode of Frontier. My opinion on Zero hasn't changed much; I still think it's the weakest entry in the franchise. In fact, I would go so far as to say that without the Valkyries, the UN Spacy kite and Roy Fokker, you probably wouldn't know Zero is supposed to be a Macross OVA. Quote
VF5SS Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Well without all that you've just got is a love triangle so it might as well be Aquarion. Quote
Marzan Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Virgin Road is pure Macross magic for sure. I had forgotten all about the intense jazz drummer still. LOL. Quote
