Macross is back on television!  ...Sort of.

Last night (Monday July 2nd) at 10pm, Tokyo MX began its weekly broadcast of the "Macross Super Dimensional Seminar", a special series developed as part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, educating younger generations introduced to Macross through "Macross Frontier" about the roots of the franchise.

The first installment covered episodes 1 and 2 of the original "Super Dimension Fortress Macross" TV series, with heavily-edited versions of both packed into a single half-hour.  Unfortunately, unlike some other recent television anime reruns like "Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water", the footage used did not look like it was the new HD remaster -- you need to get the Blu-ray for that.

The show is "hosted" by Sheryl Nome, who acts as your history lecturer and points out similarities with scenes "you may remember" from "Macross Frontier", such as the VF-1D mid-air catch scene.

There may be precious little content for hardcore fans, but for Macross newbies, this is a must-see!

Next week: Episodes 6 and 9: "Daedalus Attack" and "Miss Macross".

More pics after the jump.

Cool, more episodes that only folks on the MW podcast can watch. :p

If this were Gundam related it'd be fansubbed by now. :D

Episode 3 aired last night. First part of DYRL. Will front-page it ASAP (might take a while, though).

According to the preview of ep. 4, ep. 26 and ep. 27 of the TV series will be aired next week. Not the second part of DYRL. Hmm.

Hmmm... trying to grasp the logic behind that. Using the DYRL as the primary story (because it's the truncated version), and SDFM to fill in the gaps? Or just doing it for variety? Or trying to educate the new Macross fans (see, SK retold the same events with SDFM and DYRL, so MF TV and MF movie versions is par for the course)?

Just finished watching ep.4. Ep. 5 is the second part of DYRL.

And an announcement of the Armored Factory was included. 5,135 yen from Amazon JP. Hmm, cheaper than I have expected.

At the preview of the next episode, Sheryl said "Ore no Uta wo Kike!" lol Not "Watashi no."

Yes, from the next week, a digest of Macross 7 starts.

So yeah, I finally saw them! But erm...not so special, is it?

Indeed. I have written the partial information of this program. One reason is that I don't want to tell the spoiler to the residents in japan except Tokyo. They look forward to watching it without doing the shitty pirate act. They are waiting until BS11 broadcast it. But not only that.

Almost nothing new and special. The ad of the new 30th anniversary products is the only new one.

Now I am watching SD Seminar. Macross Plus Ep. 1 & 2. Is the movie quality so good, isn't it?

I loled when the Hatsune Miku commercial movie of her live concert in Taiwan appeared just before the Sharon Apple's concert scene on Tokyo MX TV.

Done with Macross Dynamite Seven.

Next week... MACROSS II: LOVERS AGAIN!

And... it's Episode 1: "Contact" -- apparently they are not doing two episodes in one go anymore, but will show almost the entire first episode!

I like how they had Sheryl get sucked into an alternate dimension at the beginning of Macross II, and had her get spit back out at the end of it (last night).

Next up: Macross Zero.

Just finished watching the latest episode, covering Macross Zero Eps. 1 and 2.

I was kind of surprised that they cut most of the battles out, but left Sara's tits'n'ass in.

And Sheryl looked WAY more excited about FB7 than anyone else was.

On the last Saturday, I talked to a MW member. "About SD Seminar. Dec 17th, Sayonara is featured. But the program will be aired until 24th. I wonder what will come in the last episode."

I have just watched the program. Sheryl said she has nothing more to teach about Macross to us. But just one episode is rest. And "and more..." is on the TV screen.

Hmm, they are hiding something...

Yeah, that made me curious, too. And they didn't even finish Sayonara no Tsubasa... it ended with everyone approaching the Vajra planet.
