skullmilitia Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The more I see stuff like this, the more I hope someone in Japan makes a live action Macross before there's a live actions RT with horrible actors like McGuire, and turn a great love story into a teenage angst drama with space vampires. .. That's not M7 lol.
Old_Nash Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The more I see stuff like this, the more I hope someone in Japan makes a live action Macross before there's a live actions RT with horrible actors like McGuire, and turn a great love story into a teenage angst drama with space vampires. .. That's not M7 lol. Don't forget about Tobey Maguire project to a live action of Robotech... I believe now what Pacific Rim was released, much studios make their mecha's movies for the next year....
peter Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Since this franchise is pretty much dead to me except for making fun of, I really have no interest in anything Robotech, be it fan projects or official release. I will admit that calling it the "Valkyrie Project" with a Robotech title is mildly annoying. Now, onto the work itself, The animation is OK. The camera angling is good. The CG looks a little blocky and video game-like, but it's something that can be worked on as it goes forward. Thumbs up, man. Yeah, I'm a bit irked by that as well. I thought most fans should be able to differentiate the two different worlds, whether you're from the Robotech faction, or original Macross side. Was there a reason why didn't they use Veritech Project?
coronadlux Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I'm beginning to think that HG might not really want a live action studio film unless there's some guarantees on the cash it would bring in.
Einherjar Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Yeah, I'm a bit irked by that as well. I thought most fans should be able to differentiate the two different worlds, whether you're from the Robotech faction, or original Macross side. Was there a reason why didn't they use Veritech Project? I've learned over the years that a lot of people really don't know due to misinformation and/or don't care at this point out of nostalgia and loyalty, even if it is mildly insulting.
Lorindor Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Uhm... The VF-1 is nick-named the Valkyrie in Robotech canon as well. And the Valkyrie project specifically was the developmental project in which the VF-1 was created, as depicted in the From the Stars comics.

Lorindor Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Yes, From the Stars is part of the current canon. The Yune-verse have changed or clarified many details so that they are more in line with the original source materials.
renegadeleader1 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Yes, From the Stars is part of the current canon. The Yune-verse have changed or clarified many details so that they are more in line with the original source materials. And the VF-1 has still been refered to as a Valkyrie in Robotech going back to 1985
Jasonc Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 And yet, amongst both communities and within both niche franchises, Veritech is the status quo term for Robotech, and Valkyrie has been the term associated with Macross. Technicalities don't do a whole lot of justice with what maybe considered social norms in these two franchises.
Gerli Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I'm a Macross fan but this... I don't know, seems promising... Let's see it and talk about it the next year
VF5SS Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 That is a terrible rendition of the VF-1. It looks like a toy.
miles316 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 That is a terrible rendition of the VF-1. It looks like a toy. Are you expecting "Avatar"?
Gerli Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) 1:45 looks bad, but the overall quality is very good. Also 1:10 that's more close to Macross than Robotech (Don't make contact with protoculture) Edited December 25, 2013 by Gerli
reddsun1 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) I wonder why they changed the canopy design? 1:53 - I'd wager a Yammie 1/48 was the primary inspiration in the design of those CG Valks. Edited December 25, 2013 by reddsun1
VF5SS Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Are you expecting "Avatar"? I expect not to base your titular CG model off a 30 year old children's toy. That's a flying Takatoku with tiny wings.
Mommar Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I will say the look of the Valks is a bit of a let down design-wise. The rest is done extremely well for something not funded by Hollywood money, but that design is chunky/stubby and... does not look good.
David Hingtgen Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Legs are too fat and too far apart. They look "tacked on" and not an integrated part of fighter mode. Reminds me of most Transformerâ„¢ toys that way. Fuselage (mainly glove area) is too wide.
coronadlux Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Being a fan based project, this is way better than the "live action" we are seeing from Hollywood to date.
myk Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Ok... wow. LOL. Yeah words fail me on that clip. I will say however that if people can rave over Pacific Rim then that Telemundo/Sabado Gigante version of Macross should be equally worshipped...

I will say however that if people can rave over Pacific Rim then that Telemundo/Sabado Gigante version of Robotech should be equally worshipped... Fixed. Seems like the short was filmed in english and later dubbed to a "neutral" spanish, so it's aimed to USA and Latin America in general... interesting move from the studio. Let's see how it goes... it kinda has some... "thing" from Macross I think... (And some from Top-Gun)

CoryHolmes Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Needs more Robotech. Rick Hunter's theme springs to mind...
skullmilitia Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Everything needs less Rick Hunter... Everything.
dkev Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Oh MY!!! I have waited a LONG time for something like this!!! Can't wait to see MORE!! Dkev
peter Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Ok, so what's the deal here, did we figure out if this is a fan film or a studio production?
Gerli Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) Ok, so what's the deal here, did we figure out if this is a fan film or a studio production? Both I think... because the fan who made it owns the studio For reference, the guy did some animation for a History Channel special about the Malvinas War Edited December 28, 2013 by Gerli
skullmilitia Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Are you guys so desperate for some kind of live action version of transforming plane mecha that you actually look forward to something this.. Bad? This makes Sharknado look good. No offense, but yikes, HG won't have to do much to impress RT fans if that's all it takes.
peter Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Are you guys so desperate for some kind of live action version of transforming plane mecha that you actually look forward to something this.. Bad? This makes Sharknado look good. No offense, but yikes, HG won't have to do much to impress RT fans if that's all it takes. But it's not backed by HG right? This is just a misinformed fan who hasn't discovered Macross in it's original form right?
Vepariga Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Quite cool for a fan made project, 2nd trailer shows some improvement. I will say that they seem to have focused more effort on the Zentradi more then the actual Valks model wise.
Gerli Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 But it's not backed by HG right? This is just a misinformed fan who hasn't discovered Macross in it's original form right? It's 100% fan made, HG only was asked for permission.
