areaseven Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 According to Anime on DVD, ADV Films has apparently confirmed the English voice cast of the highly acclaimed anime series Azumanga Daioh. Dub haters, you may want to grab your pitchforks for this: - Jessica Boone (Misaki in Angelic Layer, Arumi in Magical Shopping District Abenobashi) as Chiyo Mihama - Kira Vincent-Davis (Najica Blitz Tactics, Quon in RahXephon) as Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga - Christine M. Auten (Priss in Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Marvel in Aura Battler Dunbine) as Sakaki - Mandy Clark (Mawata in Pretear, Mishima in RahXephon) as Tomo Takino - Nancy Novotny as Koyomi Mizuhara - Allison Sumrall (A.I. in Full Metal Panic!, Rinna Charat in Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat) as Kagura - Luci Christian (Kaname in Full Metal Panic!, Dejiko in Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat) as Yukari Tanizaki - Monica Rial (Haruka in RahXephon, Kirika in NOIR) as Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa - Tiffany Grant (Asuka in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gema in Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat) as Kaorin - Andy McAvin (Jean-Jacques in Spriggan, Icchan in Angelic Layer) as Kimura - Hilary Haag (Karinka in Steel Angel Kurumi, Teletha in Full Metal Panic!) as Chihiro Quote
ogami Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 I am not sure i want to watch Azumanga Daioh on dub... The orginial Japanese script is awesome and those jokes have to be in Japanese to be funny. Quote
gnollman Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 Heh... not that I'm ever gonna watch AzuDai in English.... you'd miss out on much of the comedy and cultural jokes if you watch it in English.... Quote
JELEINEN Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 I agree. They're basically going to end up substituting English jokes in for everything that doesn't translate well or requires an explanation. With this show, that means they're replacing a lot of the material and it almost makes me wonder why they don't just make their own show from scratch if they're going to put that much work into this just for a dub. Of couse, making a new show would require talent, something the frakktards at ADV sorely lack. Glad I imported this show... Quote
imode Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 Hehe, I'm waiting to hear Osaka with a Bronx/Brooklyn accent. Bring the pain! Quote
CoryHolmes Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 I don't recognize most of those names, save for Tiffany Grant. She's a good VA, so there's some hope for the dub. Quote
TriShield Posted December 9, 2003 Posted December 9, 2003 I don't recognize the names either. Whatever, I'll watch it both ways. Quote
Blaine23 Posted December 9, 2003 Posted December 9, 2003 Why would dub-haters grab pitchforks? They'll never listen to it anyway. It could be Erik Estrada and Bea Arthur as VAs and they wouldn't know! Repeat after me "I do not care how other people choose to watch their anime. I don't have to listen to dubs thanks to the miracle of DVD." Quote
areaseven Posted December 31, 2003 Author Posted December 31, 2003 ADV Films has just opened their official site for Azumanga Daioh. I'm sure a lot of you have complained about ADV doing a Mickey Mouse job on their anime openings. Azumanga Daioh is just another victim. http://www.advfilms.com/titles/azumanga/ Quote
MrDisco Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 heh good thing i've seen this series. that trailer is rather weak. then again i suppose it would be hard to do Azu justice in a short clip. Quote
Gunbuster Posted January 1, 2004 Posted January 1, 2004 ADV messed the manga..all the translations were bad..I bought the first one..and ther's going to be the last one..I will continue to buy the Japanese Manga now anyway check this link out ! http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/2chdaiou.php For AzuManga goodness!!
