asianed Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) Hi! First time poster, but I wanted to share my Sheryl and Ranka collection. Even dolls like to have fun! Another alternate outfit for Ranka: https://www.instagram.com/p/-hAQ81t27P/ Sheryl and Ranka collection I really haven't had an opportunity to take Ranka out for many pictures just yet. So many BJDs, so little time. On the topic of Doll Stands, Volks themselves have several options. I also have several stands made by Cool Cat, they even sell a "couples" stand with 2 holders on one sheet of acrylic. All stands: http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=acc11&Category=185699 DD thigh stand couple: http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=sta_dd_03 Ranka is actually a DDS (50cm doll vs 60cm for Sheryl), but generally the shoes will lift her high enough to use a DD-sized stand. Flatfooted, she will float a bit over the base. presumably you can use DDS stands for both, as the stand is adjustable. I prefer the thigh stands from Cool Cat, largely because I can hide the stand itself behind the leg in photos. You can't really do that with a saddle or waist-hold style. Your DD set looks great. Glad to finally see someone put on the alternate outfits. I haven't done it yet, but definitely can't wait to do so. I finally got my 2nd Sheryl in, so I'm holding onto it until A) I have a place to display that with one of the alternative outfits or 2) I sell it for a decent price to someone who will take care of it. I'm thankful that you posted up the link for the dual stand. It looks like there's not add to cart for it, so I assume it's out of stock? I may end up just making my own, if I can't get any luck in getting that one, or the other posted above. Keeping my options open. Quote
asianed Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Thanks! I currently have both Sheryl and Ranka in their alt stage outfits. I'm a little disappointed in the quality though, both of the default outfits were very well lined with white fabric, reducing the chance of staining the vinyl. The alt stage outfits aren't fully lined, so body stockings may be necessary to keep staining to a minimum. Sheryl is also wearing a custom earring that someone made for me out of some thin gauge wire and beads. It actually moves and swings, unlike the plastic one Volks included. On the stands, I'm guessing the other styles are out of stock. I mostly have round stands, but also have one of the square-shaped. I actually prefer the square style since the base is a bit thinner than the round puck. I think Sheryl and Ranka have put me over 10 DDs... Quote
spanner Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) I dunno, as hard as I try I just cant seem to gel with these dolls.. I just cant shake that creepy feeling about them. Its like they are dead but still alive haunted by trapped souls which are eyeballing you as their next victim. Its almost like watching stills from a scary horror movie! I have quite a lot of the small scale variety and some people view them in a similar manner I guess. There's definitely something about the size that gets me. For example http://moonlitsaki.com/2016/01/saenai-heroine-no-sodatekata-katou-megumi-aniplex-painted-prototype-information-revealed.html This thing creeps me out too! I wasn't crazy about the life size Sheryl and Ranka at the Macross event in Tokyo either. The Volks dolls however are on a different scale of creepy altogether though. Last time I was in Akihabara, the floors of the stores selling them gave me chills!! Had to press on.......quickly. Don't get me wrong, if they're your thing, that's cool. To each their own, but they're not for me. Quote

I only have 3 4 figures this size. 2 Sheryl Nome Dolfies, 1 Ranka Lee, and then 1 Lynn Minmay version from Yamato VMF line. I need two single stands now, so I'll be sure to look for them at the sites provided. As for the double stand, I'm probably gonna go with the first one posted. It looks a little nicer, however, depending on time, I may end up getting the cats one, once it's in stock. In regards to the body stockings, what color are Ranka and Sheryl? Are they the normal color, or the lighter version? Edited January 19, 2016 by Jasonc Quote

I'm uncertain if standard 1/6th clothing tips and tricks would apply here but for 1/6th scale you can soak clothing in vinegar to set the dyes. Quote

Saburo Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) @asianed Welcome and great shots. Now my question to my fellow MW members. I don't have any Macross figures other than the petite Nendos but I considering getting just a few Macross girls, namely Minmei, Sheryl and Ranka. Which static figures would you suggest? Hopefully they are not bank breakers. Edited January 20, 2016 by Saburo Quote

Both were produced by Megahouse. You can still get them on Mandarake for 4 or 5k yen. Quote

I took a look they both look great and from what I have read they are both 1/8th scale so they'll match up to the Yamato 2199 girls. I'll need to think about it now. For Ranka, http://myfigurecollection.net/item/6092 Again around 4k on Mandarake This banpresto prize is one of my favourite Ranka figures too http://myfigurecollection.net/item/161952 Hope that helps Quote

Are they the normal color, or the lighter version? Both Sheryl and Ranka are Volks normal skin. I have a mix of the partial body stockings from Volks as well the full suit from Cool Cats. I'm uncertain if standard 1/6th clothing tips and tricks would apply here but for 1/6th scale you can soak clothing in vinegar to set the dyes. Yeah, the same tricks apply. If the doll gets stained, you can use a little pimple cream (the higher the percentage of Benzoyl Peroxide the better) to fade the stain over time. Just apply some to the stain and put it in the sun for a day, clean, then repeat. For those interested in care and ownership of Dollfie Dreams, I'd recommend checking out the Dollfie Dream forum (www.dollfiedreams.com). Very good community over there! Quote

I did buy a stain remover that is sold from their site, as well as some care product stuff for the hair and a styler brush. LOL, never thought I'd be buying this stuff, but between the VMF Minmay and these Volks figures, I've become a fan. Quote
anime52k8 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) this stuff does wonders for really bad stains: http://www.twinpines.com/remove-zit it's the same stuff as pimple cream but far more concentrated. Edited January 27, 2016 by anime52k8 Quote

If you need something coarser, look for flea/tick combs at your local pet store. ...sorry for turning the last page into doll care discussion... XD Quote

UN Spacy Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Anyone have a tip to stiffen the ball joints for the DX VF-25's? I've heard clear nail polish might work. Quote
Scyla Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I think the most popular fluid is Future floor polish with pledge. I think it had a few rebrandings in the past so you might check out boards for more information. I think that over at TFW there is a large settlement of floor polish users. Since this is not available in my country I can't tell you how to use it but Anubis from this very board did a video on maintaining the joints on a YF-29 which you might want to check out. Quote
