khyronic Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Just wondering. I am just finishing watching Stargate SG1 and some of the actors were on Farscape. I remember seeing puppets on it which through me off. The basic concept as I understood it reminded me of Buck Rogers. Anyway it is one of the few longer running sci-fi shows of the last decade or so that I never really even attempted to watch and am just curious if it was a decent show. Thoughts? Quote
David Hingtgen Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Yes, Farscape was awesome. That is really all that needs to be said. You should know within just the few couple eps if you like it. (and it gets better and better) Quote
Benson13 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Looks like I'm gonna have to jump on this one now that I've finished both series of BSG. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 The first thing I'll mention, is "D'Argo is not Worf". That may be your first-30-secs impression, but trust me, the difference will become very clear. (D'Argo is awesome) Quote
Dangard Ace Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Mupppetssss in Sppppaaaaccceeeee!!!!! Worf as in Star Treks Lt. Worf. Quote
Benson13 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Thanks Dangard, I never watched to much Star Trek. Quote
505thAirborne Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 After you finish up BSG Benson, definitely hit up Farscape, awesome show!! Quote
khyronic Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 It looks like i'll be watching it next after I finish Stargate. Stargate even had a episode that referenced Farscape. Soon I will understand that episode more. Quote
Mommar Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) Farscape is one of my favorite shows ever though, IMO you SHOULD NOT watch the final made for TV movie finale. If you ask me the final scene of the regular series is how things should have stayed.Al Also, they have the most brilliant love triangle ever conceived. Edited June 1, 2012 by Mommar Quote
David Hingtgen Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Also, they have the most brilliant love triangle ever conceived. Yup, no Alto-Ranka-Sheryl thing here, Farscape's is sublime. Much better villains, too. Quote
Dobber Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I never watched Farscape when it originally aired .... But I remember several years ago SciFi channel (when it was called that) aired the complete series in order and I saw a good chunk of it. I liked what I saw and was getting into it. I watched the end movie too. Maybe I should go backand watch it from start to finish too. I wonder if Netflix has it? Chris Quote
Chronocidal Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Ha! Yep, looks like it was just added recently, last I checked it wasn't there. I need to finish that, AND SG-1. Quote
taksraven Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I preferred Fraggle Rock. Go with that if you want some quality SF. Quote
Benson13 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Well, hopefully this keeps me entertained while I'm out of town again. Quote
SilentCrossHairs Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Farscape was definitely a good series. Even the two part ending of the show was great. The bad guys (Peace Keepers) had the cool uniforms and weapons. But their was one star of the show. Talon anyone ? Quote
Keith Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Honestly never finished the series, think I made it about 2 or 3 seasons in before dropping it. Quote
Dynaman Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I've watched in season 2 so far, it is OK but I would not say it is great. Quote
F-ZeroOne Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Also, they have the most brilliant love triangle ever conceived. Wait, are you talking about a certain... half-breed with a grudge against against John Crichton? Because if you are... ewwwwwwww! I never got to see as much of Farscape as I would have liked, and what I did see was always out of order, but after a shaky start for the first few episodes theres no doubt it becomes one of the most "out there" SF series around. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Wait, are you talking about a certain... half-breed with a grudge against against John Crichton? Because if you are... ewwwwwwww! That's not the one I was thinking of, nor the one I think Mommar was thinking of. Quote
vermillion01 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 It definitely has one of the best Hero / Villain relationships ever put to film. Its simply brilliant and at times, side splittingly funny. Quote
Noriko Takaya Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 That's not the one I was thinking of, nor the one I think Mommar was thinking of. Nor I. Anyways, Farscape is great. Never watched it during its run. Got the complete DVD collection as a gift last year for my birthday and watched it all in the space of a month. Great stuff. Quote
BeyondTheGrave Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Yes. And when it ends you will wonder why it ended. For the answer you will have to come back Quote
Mommar Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Wait, are you talking about a certain... half-breed with a grudge against against John Crichton? Because if you are... ewwwwwwww! That was hardly a love triangle and definitely not brilliant. Though amusing. Quote
Mommar Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I will say that the first season isn't as good as subsequent seasons are. When it was first on I didn't really care for it. It was only during the second season I was flipping channels that I happened upon a Second season episode and discovered why I liked it so much. Quote
taksraven Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Next everybody is going to talk about how "great" Lexx was.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Quote
anime52k8 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Lexx was a really weird show. I don't remember very much else about it but that. Quote
Keith Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Lexx was a poor man's crappy pretentious wannabe Red Dwarf. Quote
sketchley Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Next everybody is going to talk about how "great" Lexx was.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Now THAT is nostalgic. Was never interested in it... but it was always on... (late at night, when there was nothing more interesting on). Never really got into Farscape (I think it conflicted with the times I was at worked), but it was interesting. Quote
Dynaman Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Next everybody is going to talk about how "great" Lexx was.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz which one? The original one on the pay tv channel, or the even worse one on the regular cable network channel? (they both stunk, but the pay TV channel was watchable) Quote
David Hingtgen Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I don't know how you could consider Lexx as even a poor ripoff of Red Dwarf. It'd have to be thrice as good to be that... Quote
Mommar Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 (edited) Lexx was a poor man's crappy pretentious wannabe Red Dwarf. The only good thing about Lexxx was when it was originally on premium cable and had nudity... and even then it was still just barely tolerable. I remember my Dad showing it to me when I was fifteen or sixteen on Cinemax or Showtime or one of those (which is doubly odd considering he's a born-again Christian.) Just started farscape. So far its watchable It gets a lot better. The first season and part of the second are a little weak to start with. Edited June 4, 2012 by Mommar Quote

Good to know, I'm maybe a quarter of the way into the second season and it has been hit or miss. Then again, most ST series stink up till season 3 too. Quote

The end of the second leading into the third is obviously where the writers start finding their footing. Quote
