Renato Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Maybe you can ask Egan for his sources, but ... are you saying that the actual DYRL 1984 film was exactly the same DYRL "film" shown in M7, even tho there were quite specific differences listed/documented by the Macross Compendium? I am not stating as fact that they were the same -- if I were, then I would have the burden of proof. But nor do I have any concrete reason to believe that they were not. All I'm saying, is that the differences that were listed by the Compendium were ones which I or anyone could have made from observation through the act of watching the show -- the only debate here is whether or not the footage shown is actually supposed to be from the in-universe version of DYRL, something which is not specified in the show. Do you see? The old version of the Macross Compendium is still available: http://macross.anime.net/index.html so you can see for yourself and/or provide links to the alleged sources of each bit of information. I also really doubt that a direct questions will result in any clarification. For starters, he's moved on to other projects. In addition, if a source isn't directly indicated in an entry, it's highly likely that he, or anyone else for that matter, will recollect the specific source. [to illustrate: do you remember the source of that small bit of semi-relevant information you included in that term paper you wrote 12 years ago?] Exactly. We meet on occasion, but this isn't the sort of thing that we really talk about. Quote
Gubaba Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 All that said, by going back through the old Macross books, I've managed to find some of the sources, and have definitely concluded that some things (like the "Megalord" being the name of the SDF-2 pre-refit, and "Megaroad" as its name post-refit) as logical inferences based on the material...which would be fine if the material were completely consistent...which it sometimes isn't. But that's for the original series...for Macross 7, I'm still pretty much in the dark. Quote

But please let's not stray down that road lest we never find our way back! My main point, to go back pretty much a whole page, is that the Compendium is not "solid", by any means, and that is not a knock on Egan, he's just one guy and there is a limit to what just one guy can do. Now that it's gone wiki it's up to everyone to fill in the blanks and correct the oddities. We're all a lot more knowledgeable than we were back in 1995. Quote
